00:00The Thai government will provide up to 550,000 baht in compensation to each of the two Malaysian
00:06tourists who were set on fire by an unemployed man in Bangkok last Thursday.
00:11In a Bernama report, Thailand's tourism and sports ministry said the Malaysian's medical
00:15expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 500,000 baht.
00:20The duo will also receive 50,000 baht for emotional distress.
00:24The ministry's permanent secretary, Natcheya Tawiwong, said the condition of both victims
00:28had significantly improved, with the female tourist now able to communicate through writing.
00:34She acknowledged that while the victims' families want to transfer them back to Malaysia for
00:37further treatment, doctors have not recommended travel at this time.
00:41Natcheya said her ministry is working with all relevant agencies to ensure the Malaysian
00:45tourists receive the best possible medical care, logistical support, and psychological assistance.
00:51The two Malaysians, Gan Xiaojin, 27, and Ong Yikliong, 26, were attacked by a frustrated
00:57unemployed man who allegedly doused them with dinner before setting them alight near a shopping
01:01mall on Ratchadamri Road at around 10 p.m. last Thursday.
01:05Gan sustained second-degree burns over 36% of her body, including her face, chest, and arm,
01:11while her boyfriend, Ong, suffered second-degree burns to his upper body.
