00:00Hello and welcome to this Jane's Weather Update. This is for Victoria updated on Monday. We have
00:06a cold front that is crossing the Bight. It is losing its connection to tropical moisture and
00:11look how upright it is. It's going to slide across the southeast because we have high pressure
00:15southeast of Tasmania. The next one in behind it is still brewing. So let's have a look day by day
00:21what that means for us here. So by the end of today we've got a cold front that is lining up
00:25in through here. Watch that slide as it moves across. The next high pressure system is already
00:30directly in behind it there and so we're seeing these sort of falls over South Australia today.
00:35High pressure out to the east. We're in northerly winds so temperatures are certainly rising. There's
00:40still a lot of sun as we move through here. That changes tomorrow. Let's have a look at Tuesday.
00:44There's the cold front by the end of the day and we've got the high pressure system here just west
00:49of Adelaide by the end of it. So we might see 5 to 10 over in the southwest, 2 to 5 as it comes through
00:54here less just into northern New South Wales there. So in the northwest corner 2 to 5 millimeters.
01:00Let's see that as it moves across on the rest of that on Wednesday. That's a morning thing by the
01:05end of the day. We've got high pressure that is over us. So that front is sliding as it moves through.
01:10It doesn't bring anything significant. Let's have a look over in the west of the country as we move to
01:15the end of Wednesday. Here's that next system that is on Thursday. There's a connection to tropical
01:20moisture and look at the trajectory of this cold front. There it is. It is on an angle by the end
01:26of Thursday. That pays better for us. Where is the high out ahead of it? It is in through here. So it's
01:31not down in here. It's not going to be a huge block to get through. This one maybe I'd actually do
01:36something as it comes in. So there's Thursday. Let's have a look at Friday. There is the cold front by
01:41the end of the day right in here up to the northern parts of New South Wales. This has a different
01:47trajectory so it's got more instability as it comes through. So what that does for totals is
01:5210 to 15. 5 to 10 still less in through here but 2 to 5 still. This as we move into the ranges here
01:59western parts of Gippsland less as you move further east. Now that one I'm going to put on a different
02:04layer here. This is known as our snow level or sickness. How warm or cool the column of air above
02:10us is. That's really important for identifying cold outbreaks and that is exactly what this system is
02:15through here. Have a look at the light blue in through there. That snow down to around 1800 meters,
02:201500, 1200, 900 meters. So this is by the end of Friday. You'll notice the cold air is still back
02:26over to our west. It hasn't quite moved through here by very late on Friday night but it is about to. So
02:33there we are as we move into Friday. Saturday looking at these totals in through here 5 to 10, 10 to 15,
02:3915 to 25. Not much left for the northwest there. This is a southwest up into the northeast type thing.
02:45And there is the cold air that is over us. So this is low level snow. It is also wintry hail as it comes
02:51in like proper cold outbreak. Now looking back at the pressure pattern you can see the next cold front
02:57again on an angle and here it is by the end of Saturday. It's also got some cold air that is in
03:02behind it. This down here is snowed to 600 meters. Not quite making it to the mainland but you can see just
03:08how cold the origins of this one is. Let's have a look at Sunday. Yes that means more wet weather. This is
03:13snow down to around 900 maybe even 800 or 700 meters. So properly cold as we go through Sunday
03:19from the southwest up into the northeast. That is where the bigger falls are likely to be. And
03:24as we move into Monday cold pool moving right up into New South Wales. So we have a chilly start to
03:30next week. I'll just go back those four days so you can see it up close. Here is Friday. Here is Saturday.
03:37Here is Sunday. And then here is Monday as that moves through. In terms of totals yes we're going
03:43to start to see something that is not just annoying as it comes through. This is 25 to 50 across these
03:49southwestern parts here. Maybe even more than 50 at the coast. 15 to 25 as we move through here and
03:55into the Wimmera. 10 to 15 even into the southern Malley. 5 to 10 in the far northern Malley. Again a little bit of a
04:02dip in through there then it increases as you go up the slopes of the ranges there. This one has less
04:06for Gippsland because it's a system that comes in from the southwest. Let's have a look at what that
04:11means for Melbourne. So today here's the last warm day in this stretch with the high out to the east
04:16top of about 19. There's bright sunshine. Tomorrow that changes. 15 and we've got rain developing.
04:22That'll be in the afternoon into the early evening. Heading into Wednesday that clears out very early.
04:27We're a mix of sun and cloud down to 14. Mostly sunny then mostly cloudy on Thursday. New top is
04:33likely to be about 18. The Bureau will go with that this afternoon. So Thursday is the dry day.
04:38Temperatures rise once again. But Friday is when that hits. It hits during the afternoon and our
04:44temperatures absolutely plummet as we move across the weekend. So all of that has lots of showers
04:50streaming through right through to Monday. So it is a chilly weekend as it comes through. As always
04:56head to far online weather for the latest.
