Canyon fire north of LA scorches nearly 5,000 acres, triggers evacuations

Firefighters on Aug. 8, 2025 battle a fierce blaze just north of Los Angeles that has scorched at least 5,000 acres and triggered evacuations in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. The Canyon Fire started on Aug. 7 in a remote area east of Lake Piru, according to local TV news station KABC. It had quickly burned almost 5,000 acres by evening of the same day. According to Cal Fire, the Canyon Fire was 0 percent contained the following day.

00:26the fire, the flames, the actual flames started back in back of this house
00:34and they wrapped all the way around 180 degrees on that ridge, all simultaneous.
00:42It was a firework show for six hours.
00:48We are so blessed. We're so thankful.
