00:00Hold on to your seats, we're back.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:06And today, we're looking at the callbacks in Freakier Friday.
00:10There will be spoilers.
00:11More, like all the way around.
00:14There you go, shake it.
00:16Excellent.
00:19Number 10. Make good choices.
00:21Anna and Tess reverse roles in more ways than one here.
00:25About 20 years ago, Tess was the high-strung parental figure
00:28who had to drag Anna out of bed.
00:30That's it.
00:37I have had it.
00:39Now, a stressed Anna has a rebellious teenage daughter named Harper,
00:43who has given several wake-up calls.
00:46Tess is a more laid-back grandmother who has slightly mellowed with age.
00:50This is reflected when Anna and Tess drop Harper off at school.
00:53Anna tells her daughter to make good choices,
00:56echoing her mother in the 2003 film.
00:58Please drive away like you don't know me.
01:00Make good choices.
01:01You are so lame.
01:03Despite stealing her line,
01:04Tess pokes fun at Anna for sounding so out of touch with today's youth.
01:08Jamie Lee Curtis actually improvised that line in the previous movie.
01:12Bringing it back was a good choice, indeed.
01:15Bye, honey.
01:16Make good choices.
01:18Number 9. Ticking Clock Till Wedding.
01:21Freaky Friday had a sense of urgency,
01:23with the switch occurring shortly before Tess's wedding.
01:26I want my body back.
01:27And I don't want mine.
01:28My wedding's tomorrow.
01:30Oh, my God.
01:31My wedding's tomorrow.
01:32I can't marry Ryan.
01:34Ew.
01:35Freakier Friday takes place over a long wedding weekend.
01:39In fact, this freaky Friday extends into a freaky Saturday.
01:42Morning.
01:43Happy wedding week.
01:44You have a lot on your plate.
01:45Let us know how we can help.
01:46Maybe someone could help me write my wedding vows.
01:48While Tess is still happily married to Ryan,
01:51Anna is getting hitched to Manny Jacinto's Eric.
01:54When Anna and Harper switch bodies,
01:56it naturally leads to some awkward moments between Eric and his future stepdaughter.
02:00This includes dodging kisses from her mom's unsuspecting fiancée.
02:04Will.
02:05Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
02:06What?
02:07Uh, cold sore.
02:09Cold sore.
02:09Where?
02:10I feel it coming on right there.
02:11Big one.
02:12Coping with the loss of a parent also remains a key theme.
02:15In this case, Eric's daughter Lily is grieving her late mother.
02:18Three years ago, we had a really bad thing happen in our family.
02:23We lost a father and a husband.
02:26And I didn't think we'd ever be able to get over it.
02:29Not only is she dealing with her father moving on with someone else,
02:32but Lily is being moved across the pond as well.
02:35Number 8.
02:36Sibling rivalry.
02:38Harper and Lily clashing at school ironically leads to their parents meeting and falling in love.
02:42So they have a rivalry before even becoming siblings.
02:46But to make it even worse for Harper, Eric has a daughter, Lily.
02:50This conflict sets the perfect stage for some good old freaky, I mean freakier, body swapping.
02:56While this dynamic adds a fresh element to the formula,
02:59the first film wasn't without sibling rivalry.
03:01Anna and her younger sister Harry were constantly at each other's throats.
03:05Why?
03:07Would you leave your brother alone?
03:09See?
03:10She always starts it.
03:13To Anna, Harry's a little monster who lives to make her life hell.
03:17To Harry, messing with Anna's a form of affection.
03:20Anna doesn't realize this until she spends a day in her mom's body,
03:23reading the essay that Harry wrote about his big sister.
03:26I had the class write an essay on who they admire most,
03:29and he wrote a wonderful paper about your daughter.
03:32Actor Ryan Malgarini returns for one notable scene where Harry toasts his sister,
03:38looking back at the atomic wedgie she gave him fondly.
03:42Number 7.
03:43Eating junk food.
03:44The best part of switching bodies with someone else?
03:47You can eat whatever you want without worrying about the consequences.
03:50This dawned on Tess in the last film,
03:52allowing her to scarf down french fries for the first time in several years.
03:56Ow!
03:56This food may make you blow up like a balloon,
03:59but it will do nothing whatsoever to me.
04:01Oh, Mom!
04:04Oh, God, this is good.
04:07In the sequel, Tess and Anna wind up in younger bodies.
04:11Taking advantage of their faster metabolisms,
04:14the mother and daughter go on a fast food bender.
04:16They don't just stop at french fries,
04:18partaking in ice cream, churros, cotton candy,
04:21and other treats we take for granted when we're younger.
04:23I'm going to need therapy for the rest of my life.
04:25You are getting the better end of this deal.
04:27It's us who are going to be dead in like five years.
04:29She's 37.
04:30I'm 36 and a half!
04:32We also have to give the filmmakers credit
04:34for not turning this into a blatant product placement montage,
04:37although we do get a scene at Walgreens.
04:40Fix it in?
04:40Yes.
04:41Isn't that toothpaste for old people?
04:43Oh.
04:44This is for when you lose your teeth.
04:48Is that a Hocus Pocus 2 callback?
04:51Number 6.
04:53Tess's Looks and Books
04:54Just because you're in another person's shoes
04:56doesn't mean that you have to dress like them.
04:59Anna gave herself, and by extension her mother,
05:01a makeover in Freaky Friday.
05:03Keep on whispering in my ear
05:05Tell me all the things that I want to hear
05:08Cause it's true
05:09That's what I like about you
05:12The sequel sees Harper switch up her mom's wardrobe,
05:16although Tess undergoes the most changes
05:18with Lily in the driver's seat.
05:19How do we fix this?
05:21Last time, we convinced everyone that we wore each other
05:24Until we switched back.
05:27In addition to a new hairdo and clothes,
05:30Lily tries to give Tess thicker lips,
05:32which backfires in retrospect.
05:34The good news is that Tess doesn't have
05:35a talk show appearance this time around.
05:38That said, Tess does have another book coming out,
05:40and Lily chooses the author photo.
05:43Tess's therapy tactics have also seemingly rubbed off on Anna,
05:46who asks Harper and Lily to express how they feel at one point.
05:50And how do you feel about that?
05:54I don't like the things we're working on here.
05:56Number five, Mr. Bates.
05:58Easily cinema's second most infamous character with Bates as a surname,
06:03Anna's high school English teacher was always out to get her.
06:05It's 1984.
06:07How could anyone miss it?
06:08It's a blatant attack on totalitarianism.
06:10About a rigid society dominated by one all-powerful, ego-tripping dictator?
06:15My grade is final.
06:17Tess figures out why,
06:19remembering how she rejected the creepy Elton when he asked her to prom.
06:23Fast forward to today,
06:24Mr. Bates is still stuck at the same job
06:26because crypto wasn't the soundest investment.
06:28While this is a fitting punishment for Bates,
06:30it also enables him to punish Harper and Lily.
06:33Well, well, well.
06:35Jump!
06:36Bates doesn't realize that he's actually tormenting Anna and Tess,
06:39although any member of the Coleman family will suffice.
06:43Elton may revel in getting revenge,
06:45but in a franchise about growing up,
06:47he's the one character who hasn't changed at all in more than two decades.
06:51Oh, come on.
06:52It was a high school dance.
06:53I mean, you've got to let it go and move on, man.
06:56Number four, Baby One More Time.
06:59While in her mother's body, Anna grows closer to her crush, Jake.
07:02The two bond over music, namely Baby One More Time.
07:06Oh, I love this song.
07:09Am I so lame that I would love Baby One More Time?
07:12Although we all associate the song with Britney Spears,
07:14that isn't the version in the 2003 film.
07:17Rather, Bowling for Soup's cover was used.
07:20Chad Michael Murray also tried his best to belt out the tune.
07:24It wasn't exactly the serenade that Jake envisioned.
07:26My loneliness is killing me and I, I must confess, I still believe, still believe.
07:38Jake now works at a record store where Harper, as her mother, tries to seduce him.
07:43This reunion comes with a Baby One More Time needle drop.
07:46Now do something cheeky.
07:48Like, lip your hair.
07:50Good.
07:51Oh, good.
07:52Big, big, big moves.
07:53Not only can Spears' version of the song be heard,
07:56but Lily holds up an album with Britney's face on the cover,
07:59emphasizing that they got the real deal this time.
08:02Number three, A Jolt.
08:05Rosalind Chow and Lucille Sung both return as the Chinese restaurant owners,
08:09although it isn't a fortune cookie that instigates the swap this time.
08:13After an encounter with Vanessa Bayer's fortune teller,
08:15the women switch bodies and sleeping positions again.
08:18You've learned a lesson.
08:20A lesson that may serve you again.
08:23Okay, that's enough.
08:24Since Anna and Tess have already been through this,
08:27they know what will and won't work.
08:29Harper and Lily, meanwhile, try an old move from the first film.
08:33As Anna and Tess consider their next step,
08:35Harper and Lily can be seen charging at each other in the background.
08:38Girls, that doesn't work.
08:39Ow!
08:40Ow!
08:40I think I just peed a little.
08:41It might be the film's funniest callback,
08:44given how suddenly it happens.
08:45Of course, Anna and Tess could have told them that it'll take more than a jolt
08:49to reverse their circumstances.
08:51Ow.
08:52Ow.
08:52Okay.
08:53Okay, that was stupid.
08:55Number two, Pink Slip.
08:57Pink Slip is a fictional band that we all wish were real.
09:00Round and round, here we go again.
09:04Single slot, single end.
09:08We're happy that Anna continued to pursue her music career,
09:11although she takes on a more behind-the-scenes role after becoming a mom.
09:14While she leaves Pink Slip to focus on Harper,
09:17Anna's bandmates remain supportive.
09:19Christina Vidal Mitchell and Hayley Hudson return as Maddie and Peg,
09:22respectively, for a Pink Slip reunion.
09:25Yeah!
09:26We have the entire band, which is the biggest OG reunion.
09:29It's like no time has passed.
09:30I'm like pinching myself.
09:32A concert once again provides the venue for the climax,
09:35albeit with a twist.
09:36Instead of Anna playing guitar from the wings while Tess takes center stage,
09:40Harper brings her mother out so they can perform together.
09:43Hey, take me away.
09:46It's a big spectacle, and it's fantastic.
09:49I am freaking out right now!
09:50This reunion wouldn't be complete without a new cover of Take Me Away.
09:54Pink Slip grew up, but the songs still rock.

10:22Number 1.
10:24Jake's infatuation with Tess
10:25We're not entirely surprised that Anna and Jake's relationship didn't last.
10:30Yeah, Jake liked Anna for her mind, but let's be honest,
10:33he was way more attracted to Anna when she was in Tess's body.
10:37I know it's unconventional, okay?
10:38And I know nothing can happen.
10:40I'm not stupid.
10:41I just want to know her.
10:43You know, I want to be able to talk to her.
10:45Although Jake has moved on from Anna, he still clearly has the hots for her mother.
10:49When he runs into Tess, under Lily's control,
10:52Jake doesn't hesitate to ask if she's still married.
10:56Is your husband?
10:57Is he still with us?
11:00Either way, he'd likely be open to letting her ride his motorcycle.
11:03This May-December relationship might not work out, but there are other fish in the sea.
11:09Jake meets one named Beth at Anna and Eric's wedding.
11:12Beth's hair and dress match Tess's in the first film.
11:15What can we say?
11:16Jake has a type.
11:17Let's call me.
11:18Jake, stop!
11:20Look, I know it.
11:20You're running away from him.
11:22Jake, if you like me at all, you will just leave me alone.
11:25Yeah, but...
11:26Please, no!
11:28What do you think was the sequel's freakiest callback?
11:31Let us know in the comments.
11:32I was really bad at that.
11:33So bad at that.
11:35Any other ideas?
11:36Let's just get back out there.
11:38Otherwise, he'll think I'm pooping.
11:39Too late.
