00:00Okay, I thank the ranking member, and yes, I agree, we need to get to the bottom of this problem.
00:08You know, a couple of things that I heard is, obviously, the insurance companies are a big problem.
00:17And, of course, you know, somehow in this country, we have got to give health care back to our providers
00:24and those who are actually treating people for these sometimes fatal decisions.
00:36And so that's another matter.
00:40But going forward, the Employment Benefits Security Administration is a small agency with vast jurisdiction.
00:50And in these conversations, it kind of reminds me of the IRS, is you're guilty until you prove yourself innocent.
00:58I don't think that's exactly the jurisprudence in our nation, you know.
01:05We are supposed to be innocent until you're proven guilty.
01:10So we've got it backwards in many instances here.
01:14It's important for this agency to use its investigative resources wisely and efficiently.
01:24And, you know, it needs to be open.
01:29No behind-the-back, behind-the-scene activity.
01:34Employers sponsor retirement plans voluntarily, and EPSA should—are voluntary.
01:40And EPSA should work with employers to promote and protect employee retirement savings.
01:47Republicans are committed to protecting retirement savings of workers, retirees, and their families.
01:53As we learned today, government agencies that resist oversight can run amok,
01:58and their actions can harm workers and job creators.
02:02Under the Biden-Harris administration, EPSA teamed up with class-action plaintiff attorneys
02:07to bypass court rules on fair litigation.
02:10That is a black eye.
02:14And it needs to be dealt with.
02:16The legislation we discussed today calls for transparency.
02:20Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
02:24And, Ranking Member, I look forward to working with you and all the members of this committee
02:28to providing a workable solution that secures workers' retirement.
02:36And with that, I yield back.
02:39And I would like to thank all of our witnesses, again,
02:44for taking the time to testify before the subcommittee today.
02:48And without objection, being no further business, the subcommittee stands adjourned.
