00:00Pop it. Pop it. Smash it. Smash it. That's the way, every day, you can play Beat the Clock.
00:16And now, here's the star of the all-new Beat the Clock, Monty Hall.
00:35Thank you very much. Thank you, thank you, and welcome to Beat the Clock.
00:41Perfect way to start the day. Lots of fun, lots of action, and a lot of laughs, too.
00:45And as a matter of fact, lots of money at stake, too, and two couples compete against each other and against our famous clock.
00:51And now we have two brand-new teams to start off today, so let's hear all about them. Jack?
00:56Okay, Monty, replacing, and decided by a coin toss, replacing our retired champions are David Walsh and Renee Schimmick.
01:04And challenging them in the green, we have Gary and Kim Stacy.
01:10All right, Kim, it's nice to meet you. I'd always like to know something about my contestants. Tell me something about yourself, Gary.
01:18We're from Newport Beach, California.
01:20Nice place, nice place.
01:21Great place to live. Yeah, let's hear it. And I'm in the mortgage investment business, and I've been doing that for about four years, and enjoying Southern California.
01:28You bet. I'll bet you are. And Kim, what do you do?
01:31I'm a mortgage broker.
01:32You work with them?
01:33No. Well, sometimes.
01:35You don't work in the same place?
01:37No. Different companies.
01:38Isn't that interesting? Both mortgage brokers and working office companies.
01:41Uh-huh. But when you come home, you don't tell secrets, though, do you?
01:44Uh, sometimes.
01:46Well, just keep it in the family, right?
01:48Right.
01:49Kim and Gary, good luck to you, to the Stacys.
01:51Now, let's meet two kids, David Walsh and Renee Schimmick.
01:53Hi, Renee. How are you?
01:55Fine.
01:56I guess, usually, I have the man standing here. I'm a little surprised.
01:59So, I'll start with you first, anyhow. Tell me something about yourself.
02:01I'm a waitress and a part-time student. I'm trying to get into the travel agency.
02:07What are you studying?
02:08Mmm, a little everything. Spanish, travel industry, flight attendant.
02:13Oh, well, that's good for the travel industry. Very, very good.
02:16And David, you?
02:18I manage a seafood restaurant in Redondo Beach.
02:21And I'm from, I just moved out here from Chicago, Illinois, about five months ago.
02:25Do I ask whether you're a part-time waitress at his restaurant?
02:28Yep.
02:30He's your boss, huh?
02:32Well, this is one time when the boss and the employee are of equal stature.
02:36Now, you're the red team. You have a little advantage in that you'll be called the defending champions if he ever gets down to a tie.
02:42But, however, there's a long way to go before that happens.
02:44Two teams compete against each other, and in the first round, we have a nice competition.
02:48And today, we have the ladies that are going to perform for us.
02:51So, Renee and Kim, come over here and stand beside me facing each other on opposite sides of this table.
02:57One over here, one over there. Very good.
02:59What I'm going to ask you to do is to fill those cups.
03:03We have a cup down here for each of you on this side, and I want you to stack four more inside this cup.
03:09You will stack them by starting at the far end, right over here.
03:12As a matter of fact, let's just start at the near end.
03:14Let's make it a little easier for you.
03:15And I want you, there'll be five when they're finished.
03:18Oh, five more?
03:20All right, there'll be six when you're finished.
03:22That's a switch, okay?
03:23All right.
03:24What we want you to do is come down here, and by using suction only, get the cup to stick to your mouth like so.
03:29Like so.
03:32Okay?
03:33All right.
03:34Now you know how it's done.
03:35Then you take it like that with your hands behind your back, no using hands, and get it down here and put it inside this cup.
03:40Okay?
03:41And when you have a whole stack of six lined up, why, we'll know that you're the winner.
03:46Okay?
03:47And if one should drop down, come down and get another one.
03:49Don't worry about it.
03:50Very good.
03:51Okay, we have a 60 second contest, so the one who stacks it up first or who is leading when the time runs out will be the winner.
03:57You can start at that end and work down.
03:59Okay?
04:00Ready?
04:01Go.
04:02Don't bite the cup, just use suction.
04:05Excellent.
04:08Making a big suction there, Kim.
04:10Great.
04:11There, you've got it now.
04:12Go ahead.
04:13I'll just keep piling them up for you.
04:15Go.
04:16Go.
04:17Go.
04:20We have a score of 4 to 3.
04:22We have a score of 5 to 3.
04:25It's not all the way in, Kim.
04:27You've got to work on that one.
04:29Well, you don't have to really worry about it because time is up.
04:32The game is over.
04:33The Red Team has six cups inside of here.
04:38You've got it, Renee.
04:43I should have known, I should have known that a waitress would stack cups, right?
04:48However, in the restaurant, you don't stack them up that way.
04:50Not that way.
04:51Trust not.
04:52It would be funny if she went and said,
04:53Uh, you need some dishes in the kitchen?
04:55I'll just get them.
04:58And run into the kitchen with the cups, right?
05:00All right.
05:01So, back to your places right now.
05:02The Red Team has struck dirt.
05:05$500 for David and for Renee.
05:12Go sit down.
05:13Go sit down.
05:14You're going to work as a team for an additional $500 bonus.
05:16Come with me way over in the far side.
05:18This is a very, very cute stunt and you're going to love it.
05:20As a matter of fact, you're going to be sitting down on the job when you play it.
05:23David, you're going to sit on that bicycle.
05:25It's a tricycle, actually, what it is.
05:27A big one for grown-ups.
05:29And what I'm going to have you do in this particular stunt is ride around the pylons.
05:33The other side of the pylons is a nice course mapped out for you, right?
05:36You see it?
05:38Yes.
05:39You see the pylons, right?
05:40Yes, yes.
05:41Right.
05:42And then you also see three hoops around this course.
05:44Do you mind if I unhook myself?
05:45Right.
05:46Here's one hoop over here.
05:47There's a second one over there.
05:48And there's a third one over here.
05:49Do you see them?
05:50Now, here are hats.
05:52We have a hat.
05:53We'll put the hat on top of your head like this.
05:56You'll notice it has a hook, right?
05:58There's a hook on top of the hat right over here.
06:00Now, if you ride very wisely around this course, you can hook that hat onto the hoop.
06:06We have three hats.
06:07We have three hoops.
06:09You do not stop for anything.
06:10You keep going.
06:11You keep going.
06:12But on the outside of the pylons, when you've got the first hat on the hook, your little
06:16girlfriend is going to give you the second one.
06:18And then she'll put it on your head and you'll continue until you get one on each hook.
06:22Any questions?
06:23I just...
06:24I don't stop.
06:25No, you don't stop.
06:26Because if you stop, then I'll just come along and give you a flat tire.
06:28That's what I'll do.
06:29Okay?
06:30The idea is if you stop, you can play it a lot easier, but not when you're in motion.
06:34You're what's known as a man in motion.
06:36All right, David?
06:37For this stunt, here is the time on the clock.
06:41You have to get all three on in 55 seconds.
06:44That gives you lots of time.
06:45Anyone...
06:46Any...
06:47Oh, yeah.
06:48I don't care which hat goes on which hook, but you can't put two on the same one, right?
06:50Are you ready?
06:51Go.
06:52And here he goes.
06:55He missed the first one, so he's going to go down, hopefully, for the second one.
06:59He sees it.
07:00And he's got it.
07:01Come on up here, Doc.
07:03And now he's got the second hat on.
07:06He's looking for it.
07:07Oh, he just missed it.
07:08He knows where he has to go.
07:09He's coming around the bend, trying to get it on this one.
07:11Here he goes.
07:12He missed it.
07:13Keep going.
07:14There's lots of time on the clock.
07:18David, you've got a full 30 seconds, so don't worry about it.
07:35He's got 12 seconds.
07:40Here he goes.
07:41You stay right here.
07:42He knows where it has to go.
07:44He knows where it has to go.
07:45It's a last shot.
07:47Oh, my God.
07:48Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
08:00Now, folks, there's an interesting decision to be made here.
08:03The third hat.
08:04The third hat.
08:05Hook.
08:06Wait a minute.
08:07Wait a minute.
08:08All those in favor of saying yes, that he hooked his hat, say yes.
08:10Yes!
08:11Okay.
08:12All those who have got the courage to take on that crowd, say no.
08:17Not me!
08:18Yes, you hooked it, and that's as much as we wanted, and you get another $500.
08:22I'll be back.
08:23How do you spell super password?
08:24I'll be back.
08:25How do you spell super password?
08:27I'll be back.
08:28I'll be back.
08:30How do you spell super password?
08:31I'll be back.
08:32How do you spell super password?
08:44S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-W-O-R-D-S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-W-O-R-P-S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-U.
08:45Wrong!
08:46Yeah.
08:47Wait a minute.
08:48Okay.
08:49One more time.
08:50S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-S-W-O-R-P-S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-U.
08:57Wrong!
08:58Ew!
08:58Wait a minute.
08:59Okay, one more time.
09:01S-U-P-E-R-P-A-S-S-W-O-R-D.
09:05You sure you guys are through now?
09:07Super Password, T-O-M-O-R-R-O-W, at noon on Buzzer.
09:13Welcome back to Beat the Clock and our two teams here, the Reds and the Greens.
09:17The Greens have not struck any pay dirt so far.
09:21The Reds have $1,000.
09:22In this particular stunt, gentlemen, you're going to have to work hard.
09:25Ladies, you'll just be the providers.
09:27Now, I'm going to give you, why don't you give you this one?
09:29Nice color for you and a nice green one for you.
09:32And if you notice what's going to happen here,
09:34I'm going to ask you to propel balloons down into that big sort of baby playpen, right?
09:42Matter of fact, what I'm going to ask you to do is as many as you can in that playpen
09:45because the way we're going to judge this contest is the one who has the most balloons in that playpen
09:50at the end of 60 seconds will be the winner, okay?
09:52The way you propel those balloons is open the umbrellas now, gentlemen.
09:55Open your umbrellas.
09:56Little catches down there.
09:57You see them?
09:58Oh, you opened your inside out.
10:00Can you close that again?
10:02That's a good boy.
10:03Now, open it up gradually.
10:04That's it.
10:05Not too far.
10:05Very good.
10:06Very good.
10:06You know, you would have made that a very interesting contest the way I'm going to describe it
10:12because had you gone a little farther, it would have been very easy
10:14because what I'm going to ask you to do is have your girls throw a balloon in front of you
10:18and then you'll bunt it all the way down, all the way down to that playpen and get in the playpen, okay?
10:24You can do anything you want with it, but keep bunting it down
10:26and if it goes out of the course, why, you can come back and get another balloon.
10:29Can they put it on either side?
10:30I would keep it on the outside of the umbrella.
10:33On the outside of the umbrella, bunt it all the way down.
10:34You can look and see where you're going, but the idea is to get it inside the playpen.
10:38Girls, feed them the balloons.
10:39When I say go, stand in front on the sides of the gentleman,
10:42go right around the sides and have another balloon ready for him when he's finished.
10:45Put it right in front when I say go.
10:46Ready?
10:47Go.
10:49Oh, not too high now.
10:50Here it comes.
10:50That's a good idea.
10:54Come back, get another one.
10:58There's one apiece.
10:59Now, that's it.
11:06When it hits the floor, come on back, get another one.
11:09If it hits the floor, come back and get another one, okay?
11:12All right, if it hits the floor, you come back.
11:14In the meantime, keep it in the air, keep bunting.
11:18Green team is doing well.
11:19Green team has three.
11:21And the red team has two.
11:24Here comes the red team trying to tie up the game,
11:27but green team, I think, is going to go into a lead here.
11:29The line is four, four, two, three.
11:32It's still anybody's game.
11:33Four to three.
11:35Red still trailed, leads coming down, looks good.
11:38Green looks good.
11:39Green now has five.
11:41Red now has four.
11:43It's still anybody's game.
11:44Five seconds left to go.
11:45It looks like the green team has a commanding lead.
11:47And that's a buzzer.
11:49The green team is the winner.
11:57Okay, green team.
11:59Green team managed to get his first $500.
12:00Everybody back to home base.
12:02That is the red team especially.
12:03The green team is going to stay with me and play another game.
12:06So, let's get the red team back to home base.
12:08Take a good, deep breath.
12:10Do you want to rest for about half an hour?
12:13Don't have that luxury.
12:14We're going to rest only for a few seconds.
12:16No, Kim and Gary, you have now earned your first $500 on the board.
12:20And you have a chance to get another $500 now,
12:22which will tie up the game.
12:23And that's what you want to do.
12:24Because the end result is what counts, right?
12:27Now, what we're doing is preparing a stunt
12:29for the two of you to work in concert together.
12:31And if you'll join me, I'll show you how it works.
12:34As you walk by, you'll notice a little frog over here.
12:37Hello, frog.
12:38How are you, frog?
12:39The little frog's got stick-em on him.
12:40Feel it.
12:41He's got a little stick-em on that.
12:42And I'll tell you why.
12:43Yes, it's a very important part of this stunt.
12:46Kim, I want you to get up on top of our ladder.
12:49When you get up there,
12:50we're going to present you with a whole box full of feathers.
12:53That's right.
12:54And you'll take these feathers one at a time.
12:56No, no, no, don't go any higher.
12:58No, dear.
12:59No, no.
12:59And don't come any lower.
13:01That's just right.
13:04Sometimes I feel like I'm doing the story of the three bears.
13:06All right.
13:07Now, you'll take these feathers one at a time,
13:10and you'll throw them up in the air.
13:11And then you, Gary, will propel those feathers.
13:14You'll keep them in the air until you get them over to the frog,
13:16and they stick to the frog.
13:18And if you can get two to stick to the frog,
13:20you've earned your $500.
13:21How much time on the clock for this stunt?
13:23Fifty seconds.
13:29Incidentally, you don't have to keep it in the air by going like this.
13:33We have a bicycle pump to help you.
13:35So here is the bicycle pump.
13:37You stand over here on the side.
13:38That's all out of breath anyway.
13:39Yeah, right.
13:40You won't have to use your own breath for this one.
13:41And you will throw it in the air, and then you will just keep it in the air
13:44until you get it over to the frog and try and get two to stick to that frog.
13:48Okay?
13:48Can you think you can do that?
13:51No, no, you don't have to whistle at it.
13:52It'll do all the work itself.
13:53Come on over here, and get ready.
13:56And when I say go, you go.
13:58Ready?
13:58Go.
14:00Now he's throwing up high in the air.
14:01High in the air.
14:02High in the air.
14:03Give him a chance.
14:04That's it.
14:05He's got it in the air.
14:05Get it over to the frog.
14:06No, too low.
14:07Let's go back.
14:09Throw it one at a time.
14:10And high in the air.
14:11High in the air.
14:11That's it.
14:12Now, now you work it over.
14:13That's it, Gary.
14:15Work it over slowly.
14:16Get over to that there frog now.
14:19Get it.
14:19All right.
14:20That's one.
14:21You got one.
14:22You got one.
14:23Take your time.
14:24Take your time.
14:25There's lots of time on the clock.
14:30Okay, come back in, Owen.
14:31You still have 15 seconds or more.
14:33You hear it?
14:37Oh.
14:42All right.
14:43All right.
14:44There you go.
14:49And so now, with Kim and Gary getting their second $500,
14:57they're now up to $1,000.
14:59The greens and the reds are all tied,
15:01and so we're going to go right down to the wire today.
15:02We'll play the bonus shuffle to determine who gets the chance to win
15:05maybe up to $10,000 in the bonus game.
15:08So you want to see this.
15:09It's coming right up after these messages.
15:19Time to meet us on the Buzzer Casino floor for Card Charts.
15:25The high-low cards are shuffled, and contestants are dealt their hand.
15:29Will they flip fun into fortunes?
15:31Card Charts, starting Monday at 10 p.m. on Buzzer Casino.
15:36All right.
15:37Thank you for our bonus shuffle now.
15:38Our bonus shuffle board is divided into money amounts that range from $300
15:41all the way up through $4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, $1,000.
15:47And the team whose disc is touching the highest amount of money
15:50is going to be the winner.
15:51And, of course, they get that money and play a bonus game after that
15:54for 10 times the amount.
15:55So the higher you go, the higher the money you'll be playing for in the bonus game.
15:59But when you go for the high amounts,
16:01remember, if your disc goes off the edge of the board, that's it.
16:04No more discs.
16:04That disc is taken out of place.
16:06Same thing if it goes off the side of the board.
16:07And same thing if it doesn't get up to the $300 mark.
16:10It has to touch a money amount.
16:11It could land between money amounts, too, and not count for anything.
16:14But I'll tell you how you're doing as you go along.
16:17Because the two teams are tied, they each have two discs.
16:20Now, because these are both new teams playing today,
16:22we had a toss of the coin backstage to see who would be the defending champion
16:26in case of a tie.
16:27And, of course, these kids wearing the red shirts won the toss,
16:29so you'll have the last throw of the disc.
16:32That means that Kim and Gary will start off.
16:34Kim, it's ladies first.
16:35You will have first shot of the green.
16:37Then we'll go to Renee.
16:38Then we'll come back and get Gary and then David.
16:40All right.
16:41Tim, if you're ready, take the first shot of the green.
16:47Looks like a very good throw.
16:49All right.
16:52Green holds the opening lead.
16:55We're touching the 800.
16:57Now, Renee, there at 800, talk about your strategy with David.
17:01Do you want to come in and slide past him,
17:03or do you want to knock him off the board?
17:04He gives you the instructions.
17:05Now, Renee has decided what she's going to do.
17:07She warms up.
17:08Here comes her throw.
17:10Looks good, too.
17:12Oh, not that good.
17:14All she's done is she has taken the green one and pushed them all the way up to 1,000.
17:20Now, Gary, noticing that he has one disc at 1,000, is probably going to, well, what's he going to do?
17:25He says, he says he's going to block.
17:28All right.
17:28He says he's going to try and put down a block, and then it'll be up first.
17:32He puts it, oh, not very far, but here he is over here, setting up a block of his disc way back here.
17:39Now, David walks up.
17:42He's got to decide his strategy.
17:43He's looking to see, can he sneak by here?
17:45Can he take a shot and knock him out here?
17:47It's a very delicate shot, as I see it, a very tough shot.
17:51So, David, it's all up to you.
17:53Think about it, and ready, here it comes.
17:57A shot.
17:58Oh, nice to you.
18:00Let's keep the green safe.
18:01The green wins and wins $1,000.
18:05And the green team is our champion.
18:07And we'll be back to playing the bonus round for $10,000 after these messages.
18:11$10,000.
18:16When celebrities match contestants.
18:18King Kong.
18:19King Kong.
18:20King Kong.
18:21It's fun.
18:21Well, I have matched.
18:23That's what I said.
18:24But when married celebrities match each other.
18:26He's my big, handsome man.
18:28That's what it says.
18:29It's perfect.
18:30What is there to say?
18:33Tettletales followed by match game.
18:34A perfectly matched pair.
18:37You're not fooling around with pussycats up here, folks.
18:40Oh, we're ready.
18:42Weekdays at 9 a.m. on Buzzer.
18:44Let's play.
18:48Gary and Kim Stacey won $1,000.
18:51Earned the right to play this bonus game for the highest amount you can play for.
18:54And that's $10,000.
18:55And here's the way you'll play it.
18:56You see that we have a little game marked out for you.
18:59From a start position to an end position.
19:02You'll take a tennis ball.
19:04You will hold this board like the girls are right now.
19:06And by tilting it, maneuvering it, you'll get the ball to follow the path right through the letters.
19:11There's a space through each letter.
19:13You see that?
19:14And you will take it right down through this letter.
19:16Up.
19:17Down through the O.
19:18Down through the C.
19:19Through the K.
19:20And into the space that says N.
19:22You have time to do it in.
19:24And if the ball falls off the board, we'll replace the ball.
19:26If I tell you to bring the ball back, you'll bring it back because you went off the root.
19:31If it falls inside one of these holes, just jiggle the board up and make sure it comes out of that hole but doesn't leave your root.
19:37Okay?
19:38And you continue.
19:39And you just listen to me and I'll be working for you all the way.
19:42How much time on the clock for this bonus stunt worth $10,000 to the Stacey's?
19:4845 seconds.
19:49Now, if you'll take one end of the board each, all right.
19:53He's going to take the big start position.
19:55Kim is going to take the end position.
19:57And as I said, I will put it on here and listen to my instructions.
20:00I'll be guiding you.
20:01You see the space through the letters, do you?
20:03Are you ready?
20:05Go.
20:09There they go.
20:10You can yell out instructions to each other, do anything you want.
20:12You're coming through the first one nicely.
20:14Keep going.
20:15That's it.
20:16All right.
20:17Now come down.
20:18Now do the second one.
20:20Get it through the second one.
20:21Take your time.
20:22Don't be too nervous.
20:23There you go through two.
20:24Come down.
20:25Around.
20:26And through the third one.
20:27If you can get through the third one.
20:28You're through the third.
20:29Come out in that hole.
20:30Good.
20:30Come down to the side.
20:32Now get through the other hole.
20:33Cool.
20:33Wonderful.
20:34All right.
20:34Now get the other side.
20:37You're doing just fine.
20:38Usually come around.
20:39Come around that side.
20:40All the way down.
20:41Come on.
20:42Now you're doing well.
20:42You have to get it down and around and into the end.
20:45You did it.
20:46That's all right.
21:02Gary and Pip, I guess I don't have to tell you.
