Trump’s much-hyped deadline to Vladimir Putin for ending the Ukraine war has come and gone with no ceasefire in sight. As the ultimatum expires, Trump’s aides remain silent and the State Department refuses to speculate on next steps. With Washington offering no clear plan and Moscow unmoved, questions mount over whether the deadline was ever real—or just a bluff.

00:00There's no ceasefire in place by tomorrow, which was the previously stated deadline
00:05in order to forestall sanctions by the U.S.
00:08Are sanctions going to be imposed tomorrow, either secondary or any other sort?
00:11A lot of speculation involved there. I'm not going to speculate from here.
00:30It was a pretty hard deadline by the president, and administration officials indicated they were expected to be put in place.
00:49As you said, assuming, that's kind of where I draw the line in terms of speculation.
00:54I'll refer to the White House to speak more, defer to the president, and I want to get ahead of him,
00:58of him but not to speculate from here what is your level of trust to put in that that he is not uh
01:05you know engaging in another delaying tactic here and how over optimistic uh a little over
01:10optimistic for us to expect anything out of this meeting potential meeting well it's not a question
01:16of trust it's a question of actions the president has described how he's been disappointed in the
01:20actions that we have seen from russia over recent weeks he's talked about needing seeing actions
01:25not just words he's described that himself so this is not a question of trust per se this is a
01:30question of seeing actions to match up the words but also is indicative of the commitment that we
01:35have made clear from the beginning of this administration that we stand ready to aid in
01:39the pursuit of peace try to end this conflict stop the carnage that is our driving policy here that
01:44remains our driving policy and getting the size to the table is key to reaching a diplomatic solution
01:50to this conflict so it's not about trust it's about action and it's about doing everything we can
01:56to aid in the pursuit of peace uh and bring this this war to an end president trump and the potential
02:02summit with russian leader vladimir putin i know white house officials have said that for that meeting
02:07to take place putin needs to be willing to meet with ukrainian president volodymyr zelinski but i was
02:12wondering can you put a fine point on that is there any world in which this summit between president
02:18trump and president putin can happen without putin agreeing to his volensky meeting as well well i'm
02:24going to refer you to the white house on that one for details on the president's schedule um what i
02:28can say is looking backwards as the secretary has described we have been in continual communication
02:34with our partners in europe continual communication with ukraine our ultimate goal is to end this
02:39conflict get the parties to the table see the ceasefire and the long and enduring peace but for
02:44details on the president's schedule i refer you to the white house yes rachel with holy broadcasting
02:49good to see you um in regards to ukraine does the secretary have any uh maybe scheduling a chance
02:57meeting with his counterpart with ukrainian officials or with any russian officials i have nothing to
03:02preview in terms of the schedule at this point okay so we've seen in the war in ukraine a big division
03:07in europe and um the inability to sort it out and how much the issue that we're seeing in europe this
03:17division forced the president of the united states to take it over and say hey i have to deal with this
03:23and try to meet putin because the european were unable to kind of put on the table uh zelensky and putin
03:33well the president has been clear he wants to see our european partners step up in a variety of
03:38different areas we saw for example the recent nato deal uh in terms of weapons being sold to nato and
03:43then they can then give those weapons to who they they wish uh the president is a deal maker as the
03:49secretary was describing just yesterday uh he is a deal maker uh he's able to reach deals on behalf of
03:54the american people then but then also that lead to a safer world uh so the president stands ready like
03:59i said to aid in the pursuit of this piece but he has also been clear that we want to see we need
04:03to see our european partners stepping up uh in terms of defense spending in terms of a whole variety
04:08of other measures here and that remains in terms of needing to see our european partners also step up
