00:00Hello and welcome to this Jane's Weather Update.
00:03This is for Australia, updated on Friday.
00:06Having a look at the map today, there's a fair bit going on.
00:09We've got a weather system in the east.
00:10We also have another one approaching the west.
00:12So this one here over the east, it's a big, massive cloud.
00:16It has crossed the country.
00:17It was a feed of moisture from the Indian Ocean,
00:19and that is now very slowly tracking eastwards.
00:22As it tracks eastwards, it is going to increase in intensity,
00:25particularly for these parts of Queensland.
00:27So just north of Brisbane, the coast, and just inland too.
00:31That one is also affecting northern parts of New South Wales,
00:34and we've got a high pressure system that's coming into the southeast,
00:36so that we'll have stream showers all along that east coast
00:39while it is dry across the weekend in the southeast.
00:42Meanwhile, the system over in the west,
00:44we're starting to see that tropical moisture feed coming in,
00:46meeting up with low pressure, a cold front coming in,
00:49and there is another cold front that is in behind that,
00:51waiting the wings ready to come through.
00:54So let's have a look at day by day.
00:55Have a look in the southwest corner there for the day that we're looking at.
00:58So this is Friday the 8th.
00:59These are the totals for today.
01:0125 to 50 millimetres is possible here just east of Windsor.
01:04But we're looking at 10, 5 to 10, 10 to 15.
01:07So this is the concentration of the heavier falls today.
01:10Over in the west, like I mean through here,
01:12and just a little bit that's coming in from that tropical feed.
01:15In the southeast, it is looking quite dry thanks to high pressure.
01:18Having a look as we move in through here.
01:20So here are the heavier falls extending inland too a little way,
01:23but that is the focus of attention for tomorrow.
01:26Yes, we're going to see a lot of wet weather right on that coastal fringe,
01:29not quite making it into Brisbane.
01:31So this is north of Brisbane and then the coastal fringe,
01:33but not really inland.
01:35We've got a little trickle of that coming down in through here.
01:38It's not going to be a lot by the time it reaches eastern parts of South Australia
01:41and northwestern parts of Victoria.
01:43It's cloud, it's a little bit of rain, but I wouldn't expect it to add up to very much.
01:47Over in the southwest of the country, this is the next cold front coming through.
01:51So I've got some juicy falls with that one 25 to 50 millimetres around Perth
01:55as you go through your Saturday.
01:57All right, let's have a look into Sunday.
01:59That system, it was here for a very quick time, not a long time.
02:02It has exited east.
02:04Now we just have the stream showers coming into the coast
02:07because high pressure is sitting here east of Tasmania.
02:10Just the remains of that very, very light rain as it comes through.
02:14Over in the west of the country, that is moving right on in,
02:17all the way inland here, 15 to 25 millimetres.
02:20So a tropical moisture feed really can impact a cold front as it comes through.
02:25Let's watch that in action now.
02:27We've got high pressure that is sitting here, so you can just see it off the coast there.
02:30Watch what that high is going to do to this juicy system as it tracks eastward.
02:35So here we have Sunday.
02:36Let's have a look at Monday.
02:38The cold front by the end of the day is in through here, just reaching Adelaide.
02:41But here's the next high pressure system that is just in behind it.
02:44That acts like a block.
02:46It stops that feed of moisture from the northwest there.
02:49And so it really reduces those totals.
02:51What it also does, thanks to this high that's out to the east,
02:53the cold front is sliding southwards.
02:55So we're losing instability.
02:57We're also losing tropical moisture.
02:59So there won't be as much with this one.
03:0125 to 50, even 75 millimetres as it crossed the west.
03:05In the southeast, there isn't much with it as it comes through.
03:08There's the high pressure by the end of Tuesday.
03:105 to 10 millimetres at best.
03:122 to 5 as it crosses through.
03:14So there's Tuesday.
03:15And into Wednesday, next high pressure system has already arrived.
03:18As we look over to the west for the next one that's coming through.
03:21So just a quick little look at that.
03:23There's through the day on Wednesday.
03:25Moves in on Thursday.
03:26So some nice juicy falls with that one too.
03:28A lovely connection to moisture.
03:30Here's the cold front by the end of the day,
03:32taking a different trajectory to the last one.
03:34So by the end of Friday, it might be able to do a little bit more
03:38for the southeast as it comes through.
03:40So let's keep an eye on that one as we move into the later part
03:43of the forecast period.
03:44In terms of totals, we've got these big falls in through here
03:48and inland as it comes through.
03:50So they're nice as they come in.
03:5275 to 100 millimetres, most of that offshore,
03:54but there is the risk of something coming in there.
03:56As this goes through, 50 to 75 millimetres.
03:59That's one front, two fronts, and then the third one as it comes in.
04:03But in the southeast, 10 to 15, if we get those bigger falls
04:07from that system that comes through a full week away,
04:09which is next Friday.
