During a press briefing on Thursday, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll was asked about the Fort Stewart shooting suspect's prior DUI that was not reported to his superiors.

00:00Just a point of clarification from yesterday. You were told the Chamber of Command was not aware of the arrest for the DUI on base.
00:09Can you explain if you had been aware of what the procedure would have been? Would he have been disciplined? Would he have been taken out?
00:18Because we were one day in the investigation, we can't reveal those kinds of things.
00:24What we try not to do is speculate or do hypotheticals. So each soldier, each instance, we take very seriously something like a DUI or another issue that could determine the community.
00:36That impacts how we treat that soldier in our formations. We want holistically powerful and controlled and competent soldiers.
00:47So we are constantly reflecting on our mechanisms, procedures as an army, so that we're able to capture that information and the whole soldier's accountable.
00:56Are they usually disciplined after an arrest?
00:59It varies based on the case. Any other questions?
