00:00Yankees, wow, what a victory yesterday.
00:02Finally in the win column.
00:03Felt like they were on 60 wins for an eternity.
00:05Get their 61st win of the season, a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers,
00:09which, again, saw Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo home run
00:12in the top of the seventh inning, and that was enough for the 3-2 victory.
00:15The Yankees, a much-needed win yesterday, Joe.
00:19Yeah, and maybe more importantly, Donnie,
00:22that they might have actually found their closer,
00:25which they might not have done given the fact that,
00:29I believe Boone wanted to take him out,
00:32but Bednar looked at him and said, absolutely not.
00:35You're not taking me out here because he came in, and you mentioned it, right?
00:39An inning and two-thirds, he had to get five outs,
00:42and it didn't start off great with a couple of runners on,
00:45but Boone let him stay in, which is kind of crazy,
00:48and then he ended up delivering.
00:50So maybe the best thing about what happened in that win yesterday
00:53is that they now actually know who their closer should be
00:57because I think we can all agree, and ain't Devin Williams.
01:01Yeah, past your nights, like, pitching really isn't their problem there,
01:04even though Devin Williams did blow that game.
01:06The Yankees' bats have been a little bit cold here as of late,
01:08and granted, Texas does have some decent pitchers,
01:10but Leiter went yesterday three and a third innings,
01:12pitched two earned runs, or excuse me, two runs and one earned off,
01:14but also credit that bullpen for the Yankees for holding up Leiter,
01:17Junior, Hill, De Los Santos, and Bednar.
01:20No earned runs given up after Rodon gave you a solid start,
01:22five innings and two earned runs on the road.
01:24Everything worked in the Yankees' favor,
01:26but I do like where you're coming from, Joe, to start the show.
01:28It wouldn't have been easy if they won 20-1.
01:30It's like, okay, ooh, but it is nice where you get that victory
01:33where you actually had to earn that in high-leverage situations
01:36and say, you know what?
01:38We can do this, Joe.
01:40Yeah, and you're doing it to a team that is on your heels right now
01:44because I think the Yankees now just a game and a half ahead of the Rangers
01:47for that third and final wildcard spot.
01:50So, you know, that was, you know, a playoff-style game
01:55that both teams wanted it here as the Rangers are trying to catch the Yankees
01:59and the Yankees are trying to catch the bleeding.
02:01But the more questions the Yankees can answer to themselves
02:06in this next couple of weeks with some wins, Donnie, the better off it is.
02:10You need to know you can win those games, those kind of grind-em-out games.
02:14You can't win every game, you know, 15-2.
02:17Like, you have to be able to count on your bullpen,
02:20and you have to know who your closer is, Donnie.
02:23And to this point, we've had no idea.
02:25We're in August, and we had no idea who the Yankee closer,
02:28the number one guy, who is the Rivera of that bullpen
02:31that's going to come in and shut it down.
02:34And I hope that Bednar showed yesterday that maybe he can be that guy.
02:38We're in August, and we're in August, and we're in August.
