00:00Hello and welcome along to Invicta Sport, the only show on your TV dedicated to wrapping
00:17up all of Kent's sporting action. I'm Bartholomew Hall, here's what to expect on this Monday
00:23the 21st of July. Knockouts are coming. Spitfires hit into T20 quarterfinals for the first time
00:31since championship winning year. I mean firstly incredibly proud of how the lads played tonight.
00:38The roar of the Lionesses. Kent FA says Lionesses success says England's success has changed
00:45the way the county views the women's game. For instance within the Kent FA we've had to
00:50recruit more people to cope with that demand that we've got of women and girls getting
00:54into football now. And one step at a time, annual Medway Mile encourages families to get active
01:03this summer. Everyone in the community are welcome to participate in one grade one Medway
01:09community spirit. All that and plenty more to come tonight but first of all we'll start
01:14today with a look back at a brilliant set of results for Kent in the T20 blast. The Kent
01:19Spitfires have reached the knockout stages for the first time since 2021 and we all know
01:25what happened that year thanks all to a nervy yet commendable performance against Essex on
01:32Friday evening. Here's how it all went down in Canterbury.
01:36A packed out St Lawrence ground watched on as the Spitfires took off in this must win game
01:41against historic rivals Essex. Kent won the toss and chose to bowl first letting the visitors
01:46race to 65 for nought after the power play. Matt Parkinson got a desperately needed breakthrough
01:51though when Michael Pepper reverse swept him to Klassen for 28. Charlie Allison hit Stewart
01:58to leaning on the long on boundary in the final over leaving the contest evenly poised at halfway.
02:03End of the first innings and Kent Spitfires held Essex to 172 for six. Into the second innings
02:10now and Kent were 46 without loss after five overs when Walter came on at the Knackington Road end and
02:15took a wicket with his first ball. Daniel Bell Drummond chipping him to pepper.
02:19Didn't look 100% throughout. The Spitfires managed to hold on though easing to 82 for one at halfway
02:25before Finch hit Simon Harmer for successive sixes in an over that went for 19.
02:30A strong Kent chase meant the Spitfires were in need of just 17 runs off the last five overs
02:35but things got twitchy when two wickets were lost in quick succession. A 114 partnership between
02:40Toewunda Mawaii and Harry Finch effectively won Kent the game but it was captain Sam Billings who
02:45hit the winning runs with 16 balls to spare. All eyes switched to the big screen though as Kent's
02:50fate in the quarterfinals was all to be determined by the Surrey-Sussex game. Canterbury erupted when
02:56Chris Jordan took a wicket with the penultimate ball and it was finally confirmed they'd reached the last
03:00eight for the first time since 2021. I mean firstly incredibly proud of how how the lads played tonight.
03:07Uh pressure game of course we knew we had to had to win at the very least yeah that these are the
03:13kind of games you want to be involved in to qualify as a team but um yeah we're really looking forward
03:19to and obviously third time lucky hopefully in a quarterfinal against Lancashire so uh yeah really
03:24proud of the guys. So with the tensions turning to the knockouts now Kent's Spitfires will face
03:30Lancashire at Old Trafford on Saturday the 6th of September. And a massive congratulations to the team for
03:36it but one player who will be hoping to really finish the year on a high is fast bowler Nathan
03:41Gilchrist as the club of today confirmed he'll be departing Kent come the end of the season.
03:47Zimbabwe born Gilchrist will now join county championship division one team
03:52Warwickshire on a three-year deal at the end of the 2025 campaign. The 25 year old joined Kent in 2020
04:00initially on a loan deal before going on to stay in the county and making 80 appearances across all
04:07formats. Well as his time here in Kent comes to an end it's also seen him in the past get an
04:14England Lions call up for a test tour of Sri Lanka.
04:19Elsewhere speculation is mounting. Medway boxer Moses Itauma could next be in the ring with the
04:25undisputed world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian boxer took the unified title
04:32after beating Brit Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night to add to the IBF or to add the IBF
04:38belt to his WA, WBC and WBO titles. While the likes of Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua have been put forward
04:46as his next potential foes could instead be this guy the 20 year old Moses Itauma from Chatham.
04:52Well a good performance from him in his Riyadh fight next month that's against Dylan White could
04:58see him next in line for a crack at the title and that comes straight from Frank Warren his promoter.
05:05Now over to some racing news and Dover's Jake Dixon could only muster an 11th place finish at the
05:10Moto2 Czech Republic Grand Prix. After finishing third just a week earlier over in Germany Dixon lost
05:18a place in the championship standings he now sits fifth on 119 points. After lining up seventh on
05:24the grid the Mark VDS rider was pushed wide before getting tagged and falling down the order leaving
05:29him 13th and then climbing a couple of places before the end to 11th. The season for Moto2 will resume on
05:37the 15th of August over in Austria. Football Now and Gillingham have been shown what to aspire towards
05:45that's according to their manager after a 2-0 loss to Luton Town at a pre-season friendly. The League
05:51One visitors at Priestfield scored twice in the first half to take home the win. The game came
05:56a week after Gilles and Reading played out a goalless draw at ME7. Gareth Ainsworth told the press
06:02after the match that though he's not worried about the results until the proper season begins.
06:08You know they've got a serious squad and some really good players you know and I think that's
06:12great it shows the level where we want to get to. I can't wait to get stuck into the league honestly
06:18I really can't where everything means everything every tackle every header every run every cross every
06:24finish it means everything and that's that's what I'm looking forward to. I intend to be at the end of
06:30this journey to be a really good competitive side whatever division that is you know we never know
06:37but um you know it's uh it's definitely going to be far away from where this club has been for the
06:42recent years. Well Gillingham season does kick off in just under two weeks against Accrington. Next
06:48though and the more pressing matters there's just just more than a day to go before England head into
06:53the semi-finals of Euro 2025. After a nail-biting performance in the quarter-finals the Lionesses who are
07:00all out in training today including Kent's Alessia Russo who is expected to start in that match
07:05against Italy tomorrow after some star performances from her so far and there's no doubt the county
07:11and the country will be behind her. Well earlier I spoke to the women and girls development officer
07:17from Kent FA Sam Buttress about how much of an impact the Lionesses performance could have on the
07:23future of the sport for women and girls here in the county. Sam thank you for joining us today um
07:28look the last performance from the England Lionesses was a bit of a nervy one for fans watching on
07:33both there and back here in Kent but do you think it's going all right for the Lionesses at the moment?
07:38Yeah I mean I certainly say the last game that we were watching was quite nail-biting they certainly
07:42kept us waiting didn't they but um yeah I think on a whole they've been playing really well
07:47and you know we've got up to this stage now and fingers crossed for tomorrow night. Yeah the story
07:53of of England's women team has been immense over the last few years and especially looking at some
07:58of the players that have shot up from their local communities obviously thinking about Alessia Russo
08:02for Kent she's done brilliantly she's already shone out in this competition so far and really doing
08:07a lot for for the Kent name. Absolutely I mean we're extremely proud to produce one of our own
08:14uh competing in the England uh for England at the moment it's hugely inspiring for our women and
08:19our girl players so yeah very exciting to have her there. Definitely and uh I think the competition
08:26is so strong it's not going to be easy to get back and maybe reproduce what they did in 2022 and
08:31do you think they've got the the willpower to do it though? I certainly do think they have I mean
08:37they've got huge heart they it hasn't been easy right from day one has it I mean look how good France
08:42were we've certainly had a run for our money but they've done really well you know they focused
08:47and they're ready to go I think so yeah absolutely very exciting. Yeah of course and I'm sure lots of
08:52people watching on will be hoping that the journey that they're doing now will be like it was in 2022
08:58and if they do manage to win it again it will inspire another generation of of young players is
09:03that something that you've seen over the past few years from that 2022 win? Yeah I mean absolutely since
09:09the last uh win in 2022 we've seen a huge influx of women and girls are wanting to get into football
09:15so from beginners to women that have been playing in the past and want to come back into football
09:21and also those women that haven't really had the chance when they were younger to play and now are
09:25inspired to join in and start playing. It must be a completely new new era for you at the Kent FA I
09:31know you've got lots of schemes going on that people can get involved in and we'll get on to the ins and
09:35outs of that but for yourselves and the work that you're doing there must be you know a lot more
09:39demand now so you're having to to rethink your approach to women's football. Absolutely it's got
09:45really really busy especially in the last few years different uh things that have been happening um
09:50just we for instance within the Kent FA we've had to recruit more people to help um to be working
09:57alongside myself especially to cope with that demand that we've got of women and girls getting into
10:02football now. Absolutely and can you take me through some of those schemes there might be
10:06some parents watching now thinking oh my my young daughter might want to get into football soon so
10:10how where do I get started? Yes it's been it's actually been really exciting so we've just been
10:16for celebrating the Euros a lot of the clubs that have got um women and girls teams they've been
10:22delivering um big football day so they've been running fun sessions having barbecues having big watch
10:27parties but also from a recreational point of view so we've got wildcats that's from 5 to 11 years
10:34squad girls which is 12 to 14 year old some of those teenager girls can get involved and we've also
10:40got just plays um which is 16 plus and they really are for you know females that want to start their
10:46footballing journey but we've got so many different um options available within Kent we've got our own
10:53casual league which is open to veteran footballers which is a small sided games we've got walking
10:58football we've got foot so there's just so many new things that are happening for female football
11:03all right well thank you very much for speaking with us today just before i let you go though of
11:08course semi-final tomorrow we're with italy for england have you got a prediction for me a score
11:12prediction oh my goodness that's pressure uh i'd like to say two one to england we definitely want the
11:18win fingers crossed we absolutely do want the win sam thank you very much for joining and it really is
11:23fingers crossed everybody here will be backing the lionesses i'll be watching it uh tomorrow really
11:28looking forward to it it's been an exciting tournament so far now anyway it's been uh it's
11:33been a good half so far of the program we are at the midway point we'll be having plenty more for
11:37you on invictorsport after the break where we'll be kicking off in whitstable a charity football match
11:42has taken place featuring some tottenham legends and did you take part this year's medway mile
11:48featured a bumper crowd of participants and spectators our reporter henry luck went down to see how this
11:53year's event turned out all that and plenty more to come on tonight's invictorsport after this
12:07hello and welcome back to invictorsport live on kmtv good to still have you with us on the show this
12:22evening now though it's time to remind you that you can keep up to date with all the latest sports
12:26news interviews and features from right here on the show by heading to our website it's kmtv.co.uk
12:32just click on the sports tab when you get there and you'll see videos like this one
12:36about an off-road moped competition in canterbury
12:59the canterbury trial park is hosting this year's moped mayhem championships and despite the thunderstorms
13:05and gloomy weather racers drove for more than four hours so moped man has been running since 1980 ish
13:14so it's been a long-standing race series or event series with five different classes of bikes
13:22teams of riders up to six within each team and we run all over the country really race today was really
13:30good track conditions were hard because it was quite muddy all races had a great time including myself so
13:37i went out there and had a few laps might have done a few more than a few laps but yeah um so yeah it all
13:44went really really well today and i think everyone's gone home smiling that's the most important bit i'm
13:51always being in involved in motorbikes uh gaining that from my brother who was the sidecar team mechanic
14:00yeah i love it everything was involved with two wheels that's me the owner of the venue says that
14:06the park is very important to kent and that one of its main aims is to keep riders off the streets
14:11and out of trouble started this about a year ago there was nowhere for anyone locally to ride
14:17um trying to get kids and adults as well off the streets and riding in parks and just give them
14:23somewhere safe managed and marshal to ride our off-road bikes you're not allowed to ride them
14:30anywhere other than private land which is very hard to find these days so we offer cheap safe and
14:38decent place for people to come and ride really nearest tracks are about hour and a half away
14:44london way we're the only one sort of this side of of kemp really obviously a ride anyway but not
14:51these sort of bikes um we're on proper motocross bikes normally um it's been a good laugh today
14:56certainly a good event i'll recommend it to anyone that's got time to come either next year or to their
15:02next round really with all the teams taking home at least one trophy which were made out of motorbike
15:10parts it's safe to say everyone went home happy and muddy tie way for came tv in canterbury
15:19and as i mentioned plenty more videos just like that one over on our website now though a rainy start
15:24at whitstable football club didn't dampen the spirits for a special charity match that took place this
15:29weekend while playing for the charity legend on the bench the herm bay vets went up against a team
15:34consisting of tottenham hotspur legends as fans eagerly watched on both teams put up a good fight
15:40in all in the name of raising money for good causes and our reporter s lee reynolds went down to
15:45whitstable to catch up with some of the players at whitstable football club players were warming up
15:51and stands were filling up with excited fans who were anticipating not your ordinary football match
15:57here in kent
16:09despite a rainy start this has not deterred the spirits here at whitstable fc
16:14a very special charity match is happening with the herm bay vets playing a team made up of tottenham
16:19hotspur's legends to raise awareness and money for the suicide prevention charity legend on the bench
16:27the charity was set up by ex-professional mickey hazard and his sister following his nephew's
16:32passing its aim is to set up benches across the uk that provide information and support to those who
16:39may need it over the past few years the charity has seen incredible growth it makes me feel proud that
16:47despite the devastation that our family suffered rather than wallowing self-pity we've got what we've did
16:55something about making sure that other families don't suffer the same devastation that we suffered
17:01and it's gone remarkably well it's becoming really really big it resonates for so many people mickey
17:08hazard wasn't the only legend playing mark falco david howells and ex-captain gary mabbott were there
17:15to play and support the event and to help raise money for charity that's fantastic i've been very lucky
17:21in my career i was at spurs for 16 years and they capped him for 11 years so i've done a lot of
17:26these events uh around the world basically and it's always great to be involved in charity and
17:31schedule events and today's one of course is for legends on the bench and we're hoping to raise a lot
17:35of money so that hopefully a lot of benches can be put in the parks put in the areas where youngsters go to
17:40and hopefully it will have a serious impact on helping people to be able to just reach out
17:47despite being one goal up at half time ultimately the match went to the legends and the herm bay vets
17:53lost 4-1 despite this they say they're very honored to have been a part of the match that is raising
17:59awareness for such an important cause it was it's unfortunate loss i mean we played very well you
18:05know i mean it was a disciplined performance we just we i told them just to sit back and let them have
18:10the ball because they'll just play around you for fun we knew they were going to be a bit stronger in
18:14the second half and that and obviously the legs getting tired and that and that was a what a
18:18brilliant experience for the for the for the blokes really so yeah the match was organized by
18:22the east kent supporters club and all the money raised from the match will go towards installing
18:27benches around the county i think we probably went a long way to doing that today um we were really sort
18:34of the figures in due course but um yeah it's been really great to know that we can actually sort of
18:38do something with the community and put something back in there despite a rocky start with the rain
18:44the sun finally came out to shine a light on the charity and the match eterley reynolds for kmtv
18:51in whitstable well after the match mickey hazard spoke to us a bit more about the importance of
18:57the legend on the bench charity well i i think that mental health um doesn't choose who's going to attack
19:06it can attack anybody whether you're a footballer or whether you're not i think a football match
19:10particularly with the uh spurs legend team is a particularly good way to raise funds to pay for
19:16the benches um and thanks to east kent spurs and marie howden in particular um they have did an
19:21amazing job getting this organized and and all the work and effort that's gone into it so thank you to
19:26them um and hopefully the the crowd and it's not the best weather but the crowd will turn up in numbers
19:33finally from us this evening it's a chance for families to get active together and join sports clubs in
19:39their local area the medway mile has returned to gillingham taking place every summer the event
19:44showcases medway's active spirit by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to get involved
19:50our reporter our community reporter for that matter henry luck laced up his running shoes and jogged down
19:55to find out more despite the downpour taking place over the weekend medway were lucky enough to make the
20:03most of the sunshine with its annual medway mile this event encourages local residents to put on their
20:11running shoes and get active people from all across medway have been running right across this track to
20:21enjoy a beautiful day out and make the most of the medway mile and this is when thousands of runners
20:30walkers joggers basically everyone in the community are welcome to participate in one great one medway
20:37community spirit have fun together and you know it is also something that we do as a way of improving
20:44our fitness as well as bringing all community members together for fun activities of course the highlight
20:50is the races that we have so we've already had our brilliant uh young people's races we've had the
20:55mascots which are amazing people will be very hot in there and then later on we've got the elite
21:00races and the medway mile which will be starting and finishing this year on the great line so
21:05a great opportunity to show off lots of different aspects of gillingham which we're really proud of
21:10here at medway council so the medway mile for me is just so inclusive it's so diverse it brings so
21:18many different people together so many different cultures and that's what parkrun does and what
21:22what rebel runners does is exactly the same thing we're all inclusive for everybody and we have a
21:29great following across medway it's just fantastic however sprinting wasn't the only way for families
21:35to get fit as there were plenty of other sports on offer as well as getting people involved they're
21:41always looking for more volunteers that will help with coaching or looking after children or parent
21:46support and liaison it's a big thing to do a local club but generally those people are passionate about
21:50their sport so the idea tonight is that the adults and children will join in it's for everybody it's
21:55inclusive for any ability any sort of able-bodied person joining all the sports that we've got here
22:00and they'll talk to everybody about getting involved
22:08the event finished with the all famous run across great lines heritage park
22:13hopefully giving participants of all ages a head start on health this summer henry luck for kane tv
22:23in medway always a great event the medway mile loved that report good stuff there now don't forget
