00:00By joining Bersatu, former Selangomentribasar Kier Toyo may help Rikata National strengthen its position in Malay-majority areas.

00:09But analysts say it is unlikely to be enough for the coalition to reclaim control of the state.

00:15Awang Azman Pawi of University Malaya said Kier teaming up with political heavyweights,

00:20former Selangomentribasar Azmin Ali and former state UMNO chief Noh Omar would certainly give PN a boost.

00:26However, he said the trio's influence is largely confined to Malay-majority constituencies

00:31and would do little to sway support from non-Malay voters.

00:35He said as long as support from non-Malay and young voters remain with the unity government,

00:40it will be difficult for the PN trio to retake the entire state.

00:44However, he said Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nacional should not be too quick to dismiss these seasoned political figures as irrelevant.

00:52Meanwhile, Arif Aizuddin Azlan of University Technology Mara said Kier is unlikely to spark any political upset in the next election

01:00as he is widely viewed as politically irrelevant and still tainted by his past conviction for abuse of power.

01:08He said Selangor voters are looking for a fresh leader with innovative ideas

01:12and the ability to inspire a sense of change that resonates with the public.
