A US Army sergeant shot and wounded five soldiers with a personal handgun on Aug 6 at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah before he was subdued by other soldiers and arrested.

All five soldiers were listed in stable condition following the incident and are expected to recover, though three required surgery. The 28-year-old suspect is identified as Quornelius Radford.

00:00Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for joining us this morning shortly before 11
00:15o'clock, an active duty soldier assigned to Fort Stewart, Georgia shot and wounded five of his
00:22fellow soldiers here on Fort Stewart. Thankfully, all are in stable condition and all are expected
00:29to recover. The alleged shooter is in custody. We have reestablished security. I have lifted all
00:36lockdown measures on Fort Stewart, and there is currently no threat to the local community.
00:41We have identified the alleged shooter as Sergeant Cornelius Radford, an automated logistics sergeant
00:48assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Sergeant Radford has not previously deployed to combat.
00:54Sergeant Radford has been interviewed by the Army Criminal Investigation Division,
00:59and is currently in pretrial confinement awaiting a charging decision by the Office of the Special
01:05Trial Counsel. Out from the current, can you tell us whether or not that was a military weapon or
01:11whether this is a person or any weapon that the person brought on face? Yes, ma'am. I can confirm
01:15it was not a military weapon, and we believe it was a personal handgun. Ladies and gentlemen,
01:22thank you for your questions, and again, thanks to the local responders and the local community for
01:26their help. The Army Criminal Investigation Division is on site to ensure that the perpetrator of this
01:32atrocity, which is exactly what it is, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The entire
01:39nation is praying for the victims and their families, and hopefully they'll fully recover, and we can put this
01:48chapter behind, but we're not going to forget what happened. I'm going to take very good care of this
01:54person that did this horrible person.
