00:00It's like a dog, let's go for that dog.
00:02You smile like the world never touched you.
00:08You laugh like you've never known pain.
00:11But I see the cracks in the silence.
00:14Like thunder before the rain.
00:17You can move like the weight don't exist here.
00:20But I feel it in every sight.
00:23You can go see it.
00:25This is Boxing Underdog by the developers Monologic Games and it was released on the 28th of July 2025.
00:36The Quest has its fair share of boxing games and I have managed to review a few of them 10 months or so ago.
00:42Thrill of the Fight, Thrill of the Fight 2, Golden Gloves, Manny Boxing VR, Ultra Boxing and Creed Rise to Glory.
00:49So how does Boxing Underdog fit in here?
00:52Well first of all, this is still in early access.
00:54If you have been subscribed to me for a while or watched other videos of mine, then you might already know how I feel about early access games.
01:01Regardless, when you load into the game, the first impressions are pretty special.
01:06You are in the ring in some sort of venue that just looks great.
01:09The opponent in front of you, crowd cheering, the atmosphere is electric.
01:14That's where it ends for now.
01:15There is no campaign mode yet on its release, which is very, very disappointing.
01:19So it better be one hell of a campaign mode.
01:22You can customise your boxer, choose faces and face shape and eye colour and skin colour.
01:28But I do hope future updates will add more like hair and eyebrows, beard and moustaches to choose from.
01:33Then you can pick your height, weight and age.
01:35Now I have to say that the graphics are spectacular on the Quest 3.
01:40Certainly the best from all the available boxing games as yet.
01:44From the gym to the actual boxers, the damage the boxers sustain is amazing.
01:49The shadows created is a nice detail also.
01:52All helping to make it feel like you are in the moment.
01:55Now the harder you throw a punch in life, the harder your boxer hits in the game.
01:59So you are going to get a workout.
02:02So an issue I have with this game and some of the other boxing games is the play space and control system.
02:07There is no way of moving your boxer by way of joystick.
02:11It's all done by you in the real world.
02:13So if you don't have a large enough play space, you're pretty much screwed.
02:17I love boxing games.
02:19But unless they add movement control on the left stick, I won't really be able to play these games.
02:24As my space here in Japan is very limited.
02:26I know some of you will argue it's better being able to move freely.
02:30And yes, I agree.
02:31But if you don't have the space, then you are really being excluded from the game.
02:35So there should be options for everybody.
02:37There is a pass through mode though.
02:39So you can play and still be able to see your surroundings.
02:42So you don't punch anything in your actual world.
02:44So at least that's something.
02:46You can play single player or online against other people.
02:49Now, I didn't try online because I know it's just going to be up against people who just swing their arms like crazy
02:55or have found a way to cheat like they did in Thrill of the Fight 2.
02:59And I don't want it to ruin my experience of this game.
03:02I hope they will add a stamina meter, even if it's a hidden meter.
03:05So if you are swinging like crazy, you will gas out and your reactions to being hit will slow down
03:11and also make your punches less effective.
03:14Then at the start of each round, you start with less stamina.
03:18I just hope they will implement something so multiplayer doesn't get ruined.
03:22In single player, you currently only have a choice to fight four boxes.
03:27You can choose fight settings such as amount of rounds, the round lengths and difficulty settings, and then decide if you want to fight with or without gloves.
03:36It looks like there's going to be about 16 boxes in all.
03:39But I really, really hope to see at least 50 boxes in the future.
03:43The actual fighting is amazing.
03:46Definitely the best I have experienced.
03:48It makes me feel excited for the campaign mode.
03:50Win a game on points or by actually knocking them out.
03:53There is a shop menu and I did decide to support the game by buying the exclusive founders boxing gloves, but that's all that's currently in there.
04:01It looks like you earn cash and experience points as you fight.
04:04So I hope that you can be able to buy more glove designs, robes and trunks, socks and boots in the future.
04:10There are currently five fight locations.
04:13The gym, a forgotten cinema, the abandoned workshop, a prison yard and the boxing arena.
04:18Then there are four times of day to play in such as daylight, sunset, evening and night.
04:24I find the menus a little confusing currently.
04:27They are well presented, but there seems to be buttons you can press everywhere.
04:31Some not being what you think they might be as they are unlabeled.
04:35So less clutter and a better layout is needed I think.
04:38Not much in the way of settings just yet.
04:40Just metric display and how much gore you want to have.
04:43And then you can decide on music volume on or off.
04:46I hope this game will add way more venues, way more boxers and a single player campaign of working your way up the challenge for belts.
04:53And then having to defend your belts.
04:55Also adding in some extra stuff like challenges to work on for such as beat a boxer in a certain amount of time to win a trophy.
05:02Or have a win streak of 10 fights to win a trophy.
05:06Collect all the attire in the shop to win a trophy.
05:09Reach 100 knockouts to win a trophy.
05:11Win a fight with no damage taken to win a trophy.
05:14Lots of stuff like this to really add to the replayability.
05:18It really is a fantastic looking game right now and it plays great.
05:21But for me personally there's a few things that need to be addressed.
05:25Quite a few bugs and a ton more content needs to be added before I will come back to play this game.
05:30Maybe in another 6 months to a year it will be more of a game.
05:33But what's here right now is truly remarkable.
05:36I feel like these guys have just upped the game for all developers who make fighting games.
05:41Anyway, let me know your thoughts on this game if you have played it already.
05:44And what changes or what you would like to see added.
05:47Or maybe taken away.
05:48Now touch that like button and show your support for my channel by hitting that subscribe button.
05:53Thanks guys and happy gaming.
