00:00Hey GQ, I'm Jensen Ackles,
00:01and these are the 10 things that I can't live without.
00:10Drowning out the world.
00:13My Apple headphones.
00:14I mean, I'll pick like a song,
00:15and I'll be like,
00:18AI the rest.
00:19Let's see what journey this is.
00:20I'll go from like Tyler Childers to Metallica,
00:24to some jazz.
00:27It just depends on the mood I'm in.
00:28You'll see I've got the small phone.
00:30This is strictly like texting and talking.
00:33It's something I try not to be glued to my face.
00:36And of course, reading, working, communicating, my iPad.
00:41I'm gonna be honest, I just watch movies on it.
00:43That's all I do.
00:44I will download all my scripts onto these.
00:45I can make notes on them,
00:46and it's always just nice to have them on person at all time.
00:50Although I am a bit old school,
00:52I do like getting a hard copy of them from time to time,
00:54and that way I can really mark them up.
00:56But this way I always have them with me.
01:03A case.
01:04No, no.
01:05It's what's inside the case.
01:07A solid pair of sunglasses.
01:11You gotta have sunglasses.
01:12Not just to look cool.
01:14That's fine.
01:15That's what you're into.
01:16But I've got light eyes,
01:17so the sun is a little bit more effective on me.
01:21And it's always nice to have a pair.
01:23These are Jacques Marie Marge,
01:25which are some fancy glasses.
01:28But my wife bought them for me, so I don't know.
01:31If I'm going in, if I'm shopping for some shades,
01:33I will try to find the person working there
01:35that I think has the best sense of style.
01:38And I will try on several and just go,
01:42what do we think?
01:44And when I get thumbs up, that's usually when I,
01:47but man, I will, if I'm running low,
01:50I will, I'll go in and buy like three or four pair,
01:52and then I'm done for like a couple years.
01:55I rotate, you know, between about three or four pair.
01:59I always keep a pair on me.
02:00I lose them, I misplace them, I break them.
02:04I'm not kind to them.
02:05You know, it's always like the drugstore ones
02:07that stick around the longest.
02:09You can't get rid of them.
02:10You throw them out the window down the highway
02:12and then somehow end up in the back seat, so.
02:17An amazing suitcase.
02:19Now I am a, I'd like to say an expert packer.
02:22I could live for close to two weeks
02:24out of this thing right here.
02:25But I've traveled a lot, I continue to travel a lot,
02:28I've tried a lot of different suitcases,
02:30and this is the one that has beat them all.
02:33It's a Ramoa.
02:34Literally, if I see somebody with it, I'm like,
02:36ah, you know, you get it.
02:38They are incredibly sturdy, incredibly well built.
02:41If anything happens to them, you can literally drop them off
02:43at any shop around the world because they are everywhere.
02:45They will fix it on site, get it back to you within minutes.
02:48But it's best feature, in my opinion,
02:50is I can just sit on this thing right in the terminal,
02:53waiting, I don't have to look for a seat.
02:55I can just plop down right on this thing.
02:57It supports my weight.
02:59Thanks, Ramoa.
03:00Keep making what you make.
03:07A pen.
03:07I mean, I've gone through the really nice pens,
03:09the Mont Blancs, or the crosses, or all those things.
03:12Now, just a straight up uniball air.
03:16I mark up my scripts every morning when I show up on set.
03:19This is the pen I reach for.
03:21And I will say I've lost many of these,
03:23and I thought I was losing my mind when I realized
03:26that my kids were taking them out of my backpack
03:28and using them to write me notes,
03:30which brings me to my next thing I cannot live without.
03:36My kids like to surprise me with notes and art.
03:39They'll throw it in my bag before I depart
03:43for wherever I'm going.
03:44These are the latest masterpieces.
03:48This one is from my son.
03:50He drew a die, I guess.
03:53Not dice, but I guess it could be dice.
03:54I don't know, what's the...
03:56Jury's out on that one.
03:57There was thought.
03:58I was like, did you just randomly...
03:59He was like, no, Dad.
04:01That's you and Mom.
04:03Here's the three kids.
04:05And that's Frank, our dog.
04:06His twin sister, she's eight.
04:08That's not bad.
04:09She looked at a stuffed animal and just recreated that.
04:12She's a bit of an artiste.
04:14She also does comic strips.
04:15So sometimes I'll get little comics that are really cool.
04:19This one came with a note.
04:21It said, I love you very much.
04:23I want you to know that I miss you so much when you leave.
04:27I don't ever want you to leave ever, ever, ever again.
04:30Love, Arrow.
04:31Your number one child.
04:34Then she's got all this art stuff on the back.
04:37Those are tough and beautiful to read all at the same time.
04:39My oldest, my 12 year old,
04:41she says this to me every time I leave.
04:43She's like, she looks me in the eye and she's like,
04:45please be safe.
04:47And I'm like, what?
04:49You're killing me, kid.
04:50I don't know what she thinks is gonna happen to me.
04:52Maybe she's seen too many supernatural episodes.
04:54She thinks some monsters or demons are gonna attack me.
04:56But it is very sweet.
04:57And it's, again, it's very hard to read,
04:59but also very heartwarming to read.
05:01So, ah, kids.
05:07This doesn't cut itself.
05:08And I've been through tons of these,
05:10trying to find a good beard trimmer.
05:12This is the latest find by Manscaped.
05:15You guys nailed it with this one.
05:17This does everything I need it to.
05:19It's like highly adjustable.
05:21It can give you a fade if you need to.
05:23It can trim out some lines.
05:25This is something that goes with me everywhere.
05:27This next one has a little bit of a story.
05:30There's no markings on it.
05:31I don't know what it is.
05:33Eric Dane sent me to his, what would, not a, not a, what, what's a, like a face, facialist, maybe?
05:43Dermatologist?
05:45Maybe it's a dermatologist.
05:46I don't know.
05:47Eric Dane's like, hey, you gotta go see this lady.
05:49She's fantastic.
05:50She's gonna hook you up.
05:51And she's like, you fly a lot, don't you?
05:53I can see it.
05:53And I'm like, what?
05:55There's like a roadmap on my face.
05:56And she's like, here, take this face oil, put it on when you get on a plane.
06:01Your skin's gonna love it.
06:02There's literally no markings.
06:03I don't know what this is, but hey, doctor's orders.
06:08Between my wife and any makeup artist I've ever worked with, the resounding note is hydration,
06:16hydration, hydration.
06:17So, La Mer, expensive, yes.
06:21Does it work?
06:22Yes.
06:23I, I think it does.
06:25I don't know.
06:26Maybe not perfect for me.
06:27I don't know.
06:28I don't know, but it works and it means the C. Isn't La Mer French for the C?
06:33God, I hope I'm right on that.
06:35That'd be so cool.
06:37It's just like wiping the C all over your, that sounds bad.
06:43It literally doesn't leave my wrist.
06:45A timepiece, something to tell time.
06:47I have an affection, some might call an obsession, with mechanical watches.
06:53I have a number of them that I rotate between.
06:56This one is my vintage Submariner, 5513, for any of those nerds out there.
07:01I always keep a watch on, even if I'm on set playing a character, I usually always pick
07:07out a watch because I always want to have something on my wrist.
07:10If I don't, I feel like something's wrong in the world.
07:13It's a mildly obsessed way.
07:15I like having it.
07:16Plus, it's like really the only thing for a guy, jewelry-wise, other than if you're married,
07:23that you can really kind of get away with and play with.
07:26It's something that I will forever have and, you know, it's dad's watch.
07:30It's very important.
07:32Some supplements, some fuel for the road.
07:35I keep a bag of this stuff called Optimize Minerals.
07:40Started taking it, I don't know, maybe about a year ago.
07:43It's a great kind of electrolyte blend of good stuff.
07:48Usually it's the first thing I put on my stomach in the morning is a big, big, tall glass of
07:51water with this in it.
07:53And it does the trick on a multitude of levels, if you know what I mean.
07:57I always have some sort of protein bar in my bag.
07:59Usually a couple of them, different ones.
08:01Today I've got Quest.
08:03Cookies and Cream's the best one, I think.
08:04I usually will always have some sort of snack in my bag in case the airplane food just isn't
08:10up to par.
08:11My favorite flavor, not a candy bar, although it kind of tastes like a candy bar, which
08:15is why I like it.
08:18I did not buy it.
08:19There's a friend of mine, some of you may know, Jared Padalecki.
08:22He has an affinity for winter headgear, beanies, toques, if you're from Canada.
08:29I was headed to the airport and I was like, man, I wish I had one of those just so I could
08:32pull it down over my eyes and go to sleep because I'm dead tired.
08:34He reached into his bag and tossed me one of his beanies.
08:39I think I've had this for a year and it stays in my bag and anytime I'm on the plane, I can
08:45just throw it on, throw it over my eyes and I'm out like a light.
08:48I've washed this because, you know, otherwise I would smell like him and that's, that's
08:53not necessary.
08:54Did I wash it?
08:57I washed it.
08:58I don't know.
09:01Got to have a travel bag in order to make sure I know it's my bag and not somebody else's
09:06bag.
09:07I like to put just a little something on it just so I can recognize it and it won't
09:11get lost.
09:12I've got a couple of pens that I have acquired from various shows.
09:15You might recognize that guy.
09:18That is a 1967 Chevy Impala, a little show I did back in the day.
09:23Also on this side, you've got the boys.
09:27Now it says Finn, which means the end.
09:31This is the season five pen that was made up for the boys.
09:34Phil Segrecia, who also did Supernatural, also does the boys.
09:38He makes these up, he makes one every season, gives them out to cast and crew.
09:42So I've got a collection of these, but I usually like to put them on my bag somewhere as just
09:47a little identifier, knowing that it's mine, knowing that it's not going to get mixed up
09:52with anybody else in the airport because I highly doubt that they were on both Supernatural
09:56and the boys.
09:57Although I think there have been a few people that have.
10:00So all of those essentials that you saw, all of that stuff goes in here and it is over
10:05my shoulder wherever I go.
10:07Those things are all with me.
10:09They help me feel like I got a little piece of home with me.
10:13I know that whatever I'm facing that day, I've got the things that I need to face it.
10:16All right GQ, thank you for having me, talking about my 10 essential things that I cannot
10:20live without.
10:21Be sure to watch Countdown, out now on Prime Video.
