China: Heavy rains trigger black alert in Hong Kong

In China, the maximum alert level has been activated due to torrential rains that struck Hong Kong, leading to the suspension of academic and work activities.The black rainstorm warning is the highest level in the city’s alert system. According to meteorological authorities, around 10,000 lightning strikes lit up the sky. Continued precipitation is forecast for both Hong Kong and the neighboring city of Guangdong, where floods have been recorded in several urban areas, disrupting public transport and forcing the closure of roads and metro stations.
