During a press briefing on Sunday, State Rep. Gene Wu (D-TX) was asked if Texas Democrats were prepared to stay in Texas through multiple special sessions to deny a quorum on redistricting.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Wu, can you talk about what is going to happen if you make it through the 19th and then another special session is called?
00:10Are you prepared to stay? Is the whole group prepared to stay here through multiple special sessions?
00:16So, look, whatever strategy we choose, whatever tactics we figure out as we move on,
00:24the only thing we have in our minds is what do we need to do to protect Texans?
00:32What do we need to do to protect Americans?
00:36And what each and every one of us has said is that we will do whatever it takes.
00:42What that looks like, we don't know.
00:44But we're here. We're committed to this.
00:48We're all away from our families that we've already been away from for six months.
00:54Because of the legislature, that we've been away from our jobs.
00:57We've not earned a lot of income this entire year.
01:01And our salary for being in the legislature is $600 a month.
01:06So, this is not a decision, again, that we take lightly.
01:11And all the things that we are doing right now, we're doing it because we feel that this is the only way we can protect Texans.
01:20This is the only way we can protect Americans.
01:23And that we would ask everyone else, if you want to protect this country too, come join us.
01:30Hey, Governor, I just wanted to get...
01:31Hey, Governor.
01:32Hey, Governor.
