00:00Hi, I'm Maureen with Entertainment Weekly, and I am joined by members of the cast of
00:09Disney's live action, Lilo and Stitch.
00:11Welcome!
00:12Thank you!
00:13Or I guess I should say, Aloha.
00:15Aloha.
00:16Aloha.
00:17Well, I'm going to start by asking, so big success with the first film, and now we've
00:23learned that you're getting a sequel.
00:25So how long have you guys known?
00:28Were you surprised by that announcement?
00:30We can neither confirm nor deny the existence of any such project.
00:35And with that said...
00:38I've known it for two weeks?
00:44I don't know.
00:45I was in Japan.
00:46I don't know when, yeah.
00:48So I learned it in Japan that we were going to do a sequel.
00:52And have all of you been given any plot details?
00:55Is there anything you can share with us?
00:57Like, might it draw on the TV series that was around for a long time?
01:01I don't really know.
01:03They haven't written it yet.
01:05Yeah, they haven't.
01:06It's all in development.
01:07It's brand new.
01:08Yeah.
01:09It's exciting!
01:10And then Sydney, for you, there was this strange backlash to Nani leaving Lilo to go to college,
01:17even though she can visit anytime she wants.
01:19Right.
01:20What did you make of that and that response?
01:23I totally understand it, but at the same time, I also think that there's something to be said about opening up the conversation for caregivers.
01:30And I think that there's also something to be said that, you know, I think it's really huge that she was just starting off as an adult and she's taking on the role of a lifetime as a mom kind of thing.
01:43And she finally gets to get the chance to live her life.
01:45And I think also Lilo is not being left behind in that sort of way.
01:49She's got a whole band of family, blood and not.
01:52So I think in that sort of way, I think it grows past that stereotype.
01:57And I think it's rad.
01:57And then Maya, I know that you already were well versed in hula dancing when you signed on for the film, but you also learned to surf for the movie.
02:08Are you excited to get back in the water for the sequel?
02:11Yes, I am.
02:13I am very excited.
02:14Yeah.
02:15Do you think you're going to take more lessons or you've got it down?
02:20I think I got it down.
02:21Yeah.
02:22Yeah.
02:23I'm just learning to surf by myself and I won't call myself a professional.
02:27But I'm still learning to surf by myself.
02:32Yeah.
02:33Well, hopefully we'll see more dancing and more surfing.
02:36Yay.
02:37For both Tia and Chris, you were both heavily involved with the original project.
02:43What has it been like to have this full circle moment coming back to the project all these years later and introducing it to a new generation of fans?
02:52I love that it has, I mean, I always knew that it was out there.
02:57It endured, you know, and just everything about it was unusual.
03:02It was a really different film when it first came out and it really connected with people and that was like my greatest hope was that it would.
03:10So I think that it's just really affirming to know that like to have all that, that everything that I felt was true to be confirmed, I think.
03:19It's beautiful to be part of that legacy of something that's so beloved and to see it have this whole new iteration and it continues.
03:26And every summer you'd see Stitch and Stitch gear everywhere.
03:28So you knew like people generations deep were saying, oh, Stitch is my favorite character.
03:33Oh, my gosh.
03:34I love you as Nani.
03:35So, I mean, it connected with that family part, that love part.
03:39The community that builds, you know, that raises a child part that we can all identify with.
03:45Yeah.
03:46It's timeless.
03:47It's crazy.
03:48It's amazing.
03:49And then Sydney, you and Tia shared a lot of scenes together.
03:51Did you get a lot of advice from her on the character or get to have a lot of heart-to-hearts about it?
03:56Oh, yeah.
03:57No, you are.
03:58No, I never talked to her at all.
03:59No, no.
04:00Oh, my gosh.
04:01That was like my first thing that I did.
04:03I called her up on the phone and I was like, hi, Tia, I'm a big fan.
04:07Like, hi, Auntie, I want to like talk to you about, basically, I just, I wanted her blessing.
04:12I really did.
04:13Which you did not need at all.
04:15I'm like, you have, everything you need is within you, girl.
04:18You are like amazing and the perfect Nani and, you know, and you're the perfect Lilo.
04:23So I'm just happy.
04:24She was incredible in that sort of way, too, because you guided us in a very incredible way.
04:28And to have you, Chris, to be here the entire way was insane as well.
04:32It's been a blessing.
04:34Okay, great.
04:36We're going to do positive feedback.
04:39So I'm going to give you cards and then you can just read them aloud straight to the camera there.
04:44So, Chris, why don't we start with you and I'll give you both cards.
04:49Okay.
04:50Okay, Maya Kealoha, being a Rachel Zegler and Olivia Rodrigo fan is so precious to me.
04:59Aw.
05:00Yeah.
05:01Great.
05:02Tia?
05:03Okay.
05:04Maya Kealoha was adorable.
05:06If she chooses to keep acting, I look forward to seeing more of her.
05:11Smiling Benedict, is that Benedict Cucumber Patch?
05:14Cucumber Patch?
05:15Yeah, right.
05:16Maybe that's his secret social media.
05:19Cancel.
05:20Wow.
05:21I guess they're from a show and I went to Sydney.
05:24Sydney.
05:25I was going to say, you know what you are.
05:26I know.
05:27Okay.
05:28Okay.
05:29This is probably, ay, ay, ay.
05:31This is probably the most heartfelt Disney remake so far from Henry Calvert on Letterboxd.
05:37Thank you, Henry.
05:38Yeah.
05:39Yeah.
05:40You guys can feel free to react.
05:41Yeah.
05:42Mahalo plenty.
05:43I mean, I cry myself all the time.
05:45Okay.
05:46Uh, I am very, very fond of that misunderstood blue menace from Marshall on Letterboxd.
05:57Letterboxd.
05:58Killed it.
05:59Menace?
06:00I don't know.
06:01He said menace.
06:02All right, boys.
06:03We love a menace, though.
06:04Isn't he a menace?
06:05Yeah.
06:06He's a lovable menace.
06:07Sydney, I think you need to do that one.
06:08Oh.
06:09Okay.
06:10Okay.
06:11I would have crashed out so bad if Stitch obliterated the kitchen I just cleaned.
06:16I know.
06:17Me too.
06:18From Enrique on Letterboxd.
06:20Yeah, dude.
06:21I feel for Donnie.
06:22Here you go, Tia.
06:23Oh, it's this.
06:24Ah.
06:25Lilo and Stitch was pretty dang cute.
06:28And my favorite of their live action remakes.
06:31Maya Kealoha is one of cinema's cutest kids.
06:34Yeah.
06:35And I'll let them get to your head, brah.
06:36Um.
06:37Sydney Agudong is a great big sis.
06:39Wow.
06:40And Stitch is endlessly charming.
06:41It was fun.
06:42From at real Jeff Ewing.
06:44Thanks, Jeff.
06:45Cool.
06:46Thanks, Jeff.
06:47Thanks, Jeff.
06:48Oh, wow.
06:49Okay.
06:50Lilo and Stitch isn't just the best Disney live action remake.
06:53It's pure magic.
06:54It lovingly reintroduces the original story to a new generation.
06:58From Zack Pope and Letterboxd.
07:00Thanks, Zack.
07:01Okay, great.
07:03And now we're going to do the voiceover karaoke.
07:07So we've actually picked a song called Vegas by Doja Cat, which she wrote for the Elvis film.
07:13Stop it.
07:14And it's like kind of her twist on hound dogs.
07:16So we figured it was perfect for Stitch since he's such an Elvis lover.
07:20But do you know this song, Chris?
07:21I'm not.
07:22Do you know this song?
07:23But you just read it.
07:24You just read it.
07:25I just read it.
07:26Yeah.
07:27You don't need to sing it.
07:28Okay.
07:29Did I just do it?
07:30Okay.
07:31Oh, yeah.
07:32Dog player.
07:33I get it.
07:34Fraud player.
07:35I get it.
07:36I understand.
07:37I understand.
07:38You ain't the man.
07:39You ain't the man.
07:40You ain't the man.
07:41You ain't nothing but a hound dog.
07:42Hound dog.
07:43Hound dog.
07:44You ain't nothing but a...
07:46I left the last part out.
07:47So I said, how am I getting it?
07:50I went off script.
07:51Oh, my God.
07:53Amazing.
07:54Well, thank you all so much.
