00:15or extend the ceasefire and prevent further violations. Anwar expressed hope that Malaysia's
00:21coordination of the talks, fully backed by ASEAN, will lead to consensus and lasting peace. He also
00:28confirmed that the United States and China will attend as observers. He added that Protajaya is
00:34ready to send a monitoring team to the border if requested by both sides. However, any decision
00:40on military deployment will be made later as the situation remains under control.
00:46Secretary-level talks began on Monday at Wisma Perwira, a week after a fragile ceasefire brokered
00:52by Protajaya ended five days of deadly clashes. The violence marked the worst conflict between
00:58the neighbours in over a decade, killing at least 43 and displacing more than 300,000 people.
