Amendments to the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 will allow for stricter enforcement against private rehabilitation centres involved in misconduct, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Responding on Tuesday (Aug 5) to recent media reports about former drug addicts alleging abuse at an unregistered rehab centre in Selangor, Saifuddin said the amendments empower authorities to implement tighter controls and regulatory oversight on privately-run facilities.

He added that action had already been taken against a centre in Negri Sembilan following the death of a client.
