American black‑ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a battle‑scarred operative with nothing left to lose, is hired to extract Ovi Mahajan, the 14‑year‑old son of an imprisoned Indian crime lord. The boy has been kidnapped by a rival gangster in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and his father’s finances are frozen. Despite this, the syndicate enlists Rake for a rescue mission that quickly spirals into chaos.

As the mission unravels, Rake forms a surprisingly deep bond with Ovi, recognizing the child’s vulnerability and resolve amidst unrelenting danger. Their escape becomes a relentless, violent chase through congested streets, collapsing bridges, and hostile alleys, where Rake must choose between completing the job—or saving the boy at all costs

The film is directed by Sam Hargrave, making his feature directorial debut, with a screenplay by Joe Russo (of Russo Brothers fame). Its signature sequence is an impressive 12‑minute one‑take action chase, choreographed through coordinated stunt work and innovative camera‑craft—a highlight that’s been widely praised.

While Extraction received mixed reviews overall, critics praised Hemsworth’s intense physical performance and the kinetic, hard‑hitting action sequences—even as some noted its morally simplistic leanings and controversial cultural framing
