After US President Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on India last week, a surge of rumours and misinformation flooded social media. Multiple accounts on X (formerly Twitter) recently made a false claim that India is considering suspending or reviewing certain bilateral agreements with the US. This claim was falsely attributed to the MEA and spread on social media platforms. Another fake claim circulating online states that the Indian government has begun reviewing the list of US products exempted from tariffs. However, the Indian government's fact-checking agency, PIB Fact Check, on August 3, dismissed these claims, clarifying that there has been no action to suspend trade agreements.
