00:23Мухаммад Захарайя Ал-Мутауақ
00:24о их фронт-пейте,
00:26с названием «Young, old and sick starved to death in Gaza. There is nothing».
00:31Other high-profile media outlets were quick to republish the photo,
00:35drawing worldwide condemnation of Israel's blockade of food and medicine into Gaza.
00:40However, independent journalists and news organisations soon began reporting
00:45that they'd seen medical documents revealing that Muhammad had a serious disorder
00:49that affected his health, with some identifying it as cerebral palsy.
00:53The New York Times later issued a clarification that Muhammad had been diagnosed
00:57with a pre-existing health condition after consulting his hospital.
01:01This correction and other issues, such as claims that another photo purportedly
01:05showed Muhammad's brother in a much better condition, caused criticism of the media
01:10for spinning a narrative about starvation in Gaza.
01:13However, regardless of Muhammad's illness and the nature of the photo,
01:16it's true that people are starving in Gaza, as repeatedly reported by reputable media outlets
01:22and humanitarian aid groups.
01:25The WHO says that malnutrition in Gaza has reached alarming levels,
01:29while the UN has warned of famine, and US President Donald Trump has acknowledged
01:33real starvation there.
01:35Israel has denied that there is any starvation in Gaza,
01:38with the Defense Ministry's Kogat unit accusing Hamas of misrepresenting pictures
01:42of allegedly starving children to attribute blame.
01:45This has been refuted by surgeons working in the Strip.
01:49Israel has since allowed airdrops and humanitarian corridors,
01:53but aid workers say they have done little to alleviate the crisis so far.
01:57I'm a professor who used to tell me that they discussed this for example.
