00:00Going into last season, it was kind of Johnston's coming out,
00:03it'll be Fellows and Johnson and Grant kind of kept him out of the team
00:05for long periods of time.
00:07How do you see that situation unfolding?
00:09Is it very much, you know, obviously there will continue to be speculation
00:12about Tom Fellows in the future, but do you see it being Fellows and Johnston
00:16and Grant's going to be the kind of the unlucky one going into the opening games
00:22of the campaign or has Grant maybe done enough to sneak in there?
00:27What's your kind of assessment on that situation?
00:28Well, it's one of the questions I would say for, you know, August the 9th now,
00:34if you're saying to us now, you know, between you and all the people listening
00:38to this pick at 11 for that first game.
00:41Now, what I've seen of pre-season, Johnston's been sharp and lively
00:45and changed games when he's came on, by all accounts did, again at Lincoln.
00:49Now I know Grant scored a good goal, didn't he, at Lincoln?
00:52I've seen Grant have one or two quieter spells in these games,
00:56but in his defence, he hasn't really been alone in that.
01:01I would say the left flank's up for grabs.
01:03I would, you know, I'm a huge fan.
01:06I really like watching Mikey Johnson.
01:08I really do.
01:08And, you know, if he can find, clearly he needs to improve his end product
01:12from last season.
01:12But there's an exciting player there, isn't there, that, you know,
01:16can beat a man clearly and, you know, get supporters off their seats.
01:20So if he can, you know, deliver more on goals and assists,
01:24which is a big if, I know, but he did show in his purple pass
01:29that he's got it, then for me, I'd like to see him in the side.
01:32I would.
01:32But then if you were to tell me that you can have a sort of season
01:39of the Carl and Grant of the first half of last season,
01:41I mean, how good is a breath of fresh air, wasn't he, Grant,
01:45on that left side first few months of last season?
01:48And, you know, one of, if not Alvin's, best players to that point,
01:51really, when he was dropped by Tony Moway.
01:53So interesting one, really interesting one, actually.
01:56I suppose the fact that Grant has started the friendlies makes you think
02:02that if Ryan Mason had to pick a starting line-up tomorrow
02:04for the league, then he'd go with Grant.
02:07But how much he's swayed by, you know, how Johnson's done so far
02:12when he's sort of come on and made an impression,
02:16whether Ryan, you know, Ryan Mason's a little bit sort of more leaning
02:19towards Grant because, you know, Johnson almost left the club
02:22in the summer, that kind of thing.
02:24Not sure.
02:25Well, you know, realistically, Johnny, you know, a lot of these players
02:28and, you know, a lot of the speculation you read, you know,
02:32online and stuff is very often wider than Mark and, you know,
02:36next to nothing in it.
02:37But really, we spoke before, haven't we, about Alvin, you know,
02:40needing to move players on or player or players on this summer
02:45as they look to address PSR, financial fair play.
02:50I don't think many are off the table, really.
02:52Gee, you know, you think back to January, I think back to last summer
02:55and there was interest in Carl and Grant, wasn't there?
02:57So, I'm not saying that'll be rekindled or anything like that,
03:01but it's beyond who's, you know, Carl and Grant's had the shirt
03:06in the friendlies.
03:07But, you know, I've noticed Jeremy Johnson have more of an effect.
03:10So, how's that going to go for the opening day?
03:13It's tough to say.
03:14But I think, I have a feeling Johnson can have a big season for Alvin, really.
03:18And I'm, again, happy to look silly if anything changes there
03:23or if you can't find the end product.
03:26But, again, I just, I see him as a talent.
03:29You know, people will scoff and, you know, speak about he's sort of predictable
03:33and all of that, but do what, you know, you can really and beat players
03:39and that's valuable.
03:42So, I really like watching him and I hope that he can have a big season.
03:45I do.
03:46But that's, you know, that's nothing against Carl and Grant,
03:47who has his qualities and can affect things and impact things.
03:52And maybe, you know, is that a bit more reliable runner, worker,
03:55maybe a bit more reliable in the cover on the left,
03:58if you're looking at helping out a left back like a Callum Starrs
04:02who isn't so natural.
04:04Perhaps that's some thinking in it.
04:05I would suggest that Grant's maybe that more sort of reliable option
04:10defensively.
04:11But I think it's up for grabs, isn't it?
04:13You know, I don't think you can say the same about the right side,
04:16assuming Tom Fellows is an Alvin player.
04:19He starts and has the shirt.
04:21But on the left, yeah, it's a tough call.
04:24And I think it would possibly split supporters if you're asking them to vote.
04:29But to start there on the opening day, I do.
04:31But, you know, maybe same could be said for a couple of positions.
04:34I mean, look up front.
04:36And DK's played most of the friendlies, hasn't he?
04:38And he missed out at Lincoln injured.
04:40And Hegever had his first start and Madger's had his first minutes.
04:44So who gets the nod there on the opening day?
04:47Is that fitness dependent?
04:48You would say maybe so.
04:50Most people would like to see Josh Madger do it,
04:51but he hasn't played any football since January, has he?
04:53So, yeah, it's a couple of question marks, I would say,
04:56for that starting line-up in a couple of weeks.
