An Awfully Big Adventure is a British coming-of-age drama film set in 1947 Liverpool. The story revolves around Stella Bradshaw, a naive teenage girl who joins a local repertory theatre troupe. As she becomes involved in the production of Peter Pan, she finds herself entangled in a web of sexual politics and intrigue, learning about the harsh realities of adulthood. Stella develops a crush on Meredith Potter, the theatre director, who treats her with scorn and condescension. Meanwhile, she becomes romantically involved with P.L. O'Hara, an actor in the troupe, who has secrets of his own.
