00:00Hi, I'm Tyson Beckford, and this is my Us Weekly cover story.
00:04We are celebrating King's Court. It's so fantastic. I love it so much.
00:09But why was now the right time for you?
00:12I don't know. Everything was just so, all the ducks were aligning.
00:15I had such a great response from, you know, getting back into fashion.
00:21And, you know, not that I'm back fully, you know, just dibbling in and dabbling.
00:26Yeah, so for me, it just all started to build up.
00:30And then, you know, when they asked me to do the show, I walked away four times.
00:35I said, no, I don't want to do that. No.
00:37And then somebody inside me, my second Tyson in me, said, look,
00:43you're just scared to cry on TV and let people know how you've been heard.
00:47And I was like, you know what? Maybe this is the therapy I need.
00:50Maybe I do need to get back out there and really be outside again.
00:55So for me, that was what my goal was.
00:58And I said, you know what? It's not going to hurt me.
01:01You know, if anything, I'm going to gain some more fans.
01:04And, you know, so I said to myself, let's do it.
01:08And then I went in and said, we're not going to hold back.
01:11We're just going to be our genuine self.
01:13We're going to be that person that is emotional.
01:16The mama's boy, and we're going to show that side.
01:19So I was not afraid to do it.
01:21I mean, a little nervous first day of filming, but, you know, being there with Carlos,
01:27who I had known for a long time and meeting Thaddeus.
01:31And he was just like, you know, it was just like CB, TB and TB.
01:35So it was good.
01:37But I think a lot of people might be surprised that, you know,
01:39the most beautiful man in the world has a hard time, you know, finding love.
01:46Well, I don't have a hard time dating.
01:50Okay.
01:50Let's be clear about that.
01:51I mean, I can try to date at the supermarket, laundromat, anywhere.
01:56But it's, like you said, finding love.
01:59No, that's not an easy thing for anyone in the limelight to do.
02:05So for me, I mean, I've been always around gorgeous models my whole life.
02:09So for me, finding somebody in that pack has never been easy.
02:14Was there any misconceptions about yourself that you wanted to clear up by doing this?
02:18Oh, yeah, definitely.
02:19Because, I mean, I think being in fashion, there's, and then when you're a male,
02:26and then you're told that you're beautiful and you're good looking,
02:28the first thing that comes to mind is that you're gay.
02:30I'm not gay.
02:31I have friends who are gay, and I do love them, and I protect them.
02:35And, you know, I just don't think that that was something that I ever gave off.
02:40I just think that because I took care of myself.
02:44I grew up with two sisters who always used to, like, put, like, a mask on me.
02:52Oh, we're going to try this cucumber mask.
02:54Put these on your eyes.
02:55Oh, we're going to do your nails.
02:57You know, I've always been, you know, pampered because I've always had my sisters.
03:01I was raised by my grandmothers and my aunts and, you know, my mom.
03:05So I've always been around females my whole life.
03:08So I do understand how they tick, how they work, and, you know, and I always take their advice.
03:14And, you know, I have my team is, you know, my PR team is women.
03:18My manager is a woman.
03:20So it's very good to have that woman's perspective because I think my whole career, they've always been the ones that say, okay, that's not sexy.
03:29This is sexy.
03:30Let's do this.
03:31Sure, yeah.
03:31You know, and I think if it was a man constantly being my manager and men telling me what to do, I don't think I would have lasted this long in the business.
03:41I think with women, they are strategic.
03:46They know how to do things, especially fashion-related stuff.
03:49They really know placement and which brands to work for.
03:53So that was always a rumor that always followed me.
03:56And I don't know why, but, you know, and secretly I was always dating somebody.
04:01Sure, yeah.
04:02I was always in a relationship, but I never kept it.
04:05I never let it get into the press.
04:06Right.
04:07Why is that?
04:08I just love my privacy, you know?
04:11My favorite thing to do is mind my own business, you know?
04:14So I always had other friends who were in the limelight with their relationships, and I always saw it never turned out good for them.
04:21Yeah, it can be because there's so many people poking in your relationship.
04:25And I think if the other person has a little bit of insecurity, it can turn into a lot of insecurity.
04:32At a point, I just said, okay, let's go.
04:34Sure.
04:34But this really broke.
04:35And then this whole year has been so crazy.
04:38Like, since January 1st, I've been traveling.
04:42I was at a Met Gala.
04:43All these things that I normally would have done before had stopped doing because, you know, I just was so hurt.
04:50So hurt.
04:51How long did you say?
04:53I'd say, honestly, I want to say it took me like three, four years to get over and really start to get back out in the dating pool.
05:00That's a long time.
05:01It really is.
05:02Yeah.
05:02For me, I thought that was the last one.
05:06I was like, I'm getting married and this and that.
05:09And then, like, one month before we broke up, I was, you know, I had this, I met the vice president of Cartier.
05:19And I told him, I said, look, I have this amazing lady that I want to get married to.
05:23And, you know, I've been in the store.
05:25I know the ring, you know, and he said to me, why don't we film you coming to, you know, France, us picking out the ring and doing all this stuff.
05:35So I had these great plans.
05:37I even told my friend and my friend was like, all right, I'll come.
05:40I'll be your videographer.
05:42And, you know, it just was, it was a crushing blow.
05:45You know?
05:45It's heartbreaking.
05:46Yeah, it was.
05:47Yeah.
05:47But, I mean, these things happen.
05:49I would have rather it happened that way than to be left at the altar in front of the whole family to find out that this is not the one for you.
05:57No.
05:57But people have been so interested in your dating life for so long.
06:00They really have.
06:01Are there any headlines that you saw over the years?
06:03You're like, I didn't date that person.
06:05Oh, there's so many.
06:06Is there anybody in particular that you were like?
06:07I would say Foxy Brown.
06:09Okay, did not date Foxy Brown.
06:10Did not date Foxy.
06:12Foxy was always a friend of mine.
06:13And there was this, there's this one that's long going that says I'm married.
06:18Okay.
06:18Some lady named Bernice Julian.
06:21Okay.
06:22Yeah, I think I saw that when I was like doing some.
06:24Yes, I think so.
06:25But then you Google and they show you the picture of who Bernice is supposed to be.
06:29Who do you think it is?
06:31It's that certain Victoria Seacrest.
06:33Right, that's right.
06:34Yeah.
06:34Was there anybody else?
06:35I know that there was, hold on.
06:37Give me some names.
06:37I know you probably know.
06:38Kim Kardashian?
06:40Yeah, that was, I wouldn't, it was three days.
06:43Okay, three days.
06:44It was three days.
06:44But yeah, I guess if you say it was, yeah.
06:47Okay.
06:47But she seems to not remember it, but okay, but I guess I'm not, you know, I am forgettable
06:53then, I guess.
06:53No, definitely not.
06:54Carmen Electra?
06:55No, me and Carmen were friends.
06:57No, okay, that was, okay.
06:58She actually was dating my friend, Dennis Rodman.
07:00Right.
07:01So yeah, no, me and Carmen were always friends.
07:03What are some of your non-negotiables?
07:04Yeah, I just ask some of them, make sure they're not into like surgeries of any kind, you know,
07:10Brazilian butt lifts or any of that or, you know, and then one of the things where I
07:15told the producers, I said, look, I don't want anyone with any lips bigger than fish
07:19or mine or, you know, because mine are natural, like earned these.
07:22And, you know, I just wanted a natural, genuine, hardworking woman, you know, and I think they
07:30they came back with so many, it was, it was abundant.
07:34I get a lot now in the DMs, where was I when this casting was going on?
07:39Well, obviously you were at work and we were working too.
07:42So yeah, there's a lot of people that were like, I'm on for the next show.
07:45Oh my God, I can't believe I missed this.
07:47But I don't know, where would you put this in?
07:49Craigslist?
07:50Sure, right?
07:51You know what I mean?
07:51Okay, we're casting for a new show, you know?
07:54Tyson Beckford wants a wife.
07:55That's it, Tyson Beckford's looking for a wife.
07:57Just to kind of sum it up, where do you see yourself in the next five, five years?
08:03I hope pushing baby strollers down, you know, and changing diapers.
08:07I don't know.
08:08I feel like I got baby fever again, you know?
08:11That doesn't mean I'm running around, you know, I'm not in the cannon.
08:15That's not happening.
08:16No, I just want to be in a solid relationship with somebody that I really care about.
08:20And I don't care if they're in the industry or not, but it'd be kind of good if they're in
08:25the industry so they get it.
08:26And maybe I could just be sitting on their set, you know, with the fake breastfeeders
08:30and, you know.
08:32All right, so babies in the future then, maybe.
08:34Hopefully.
08:34If not, I'm going to have to go adopt some kids like Angelina Jolie.
08:37Yeah, would you do it?
08:39I would.
08:39I definitely would.
08:40Okay.
08:40I mean, they've got to be adventurous.
08:42I'd be dragging them everywhere.
08:43Come on, we're going to this red carpet.
08:45Yeah.
08:45You know?
08:46How's your son feel about that?
08:47He loves it.
08:47Yeah.
08:48He's been pestering me about it for the past five, ten years.
08:53Like, no, you're not too old, old man.
08:56And I think he just sees the same young looking dad.
09:00But inside, I'm old.
09:01But, you know, he just sees the same, you know, he's like, dad, you still look great.
09:05Come on, we can find you somebody.
09:06Let's go.
09:06Let's go.
