New South Wales trains fare-free tomorrow to Saturday morning

Travel on New South Wales trains will be free from tomorrow through to 6am on Saturday.

00:00Well, Gemma, just a few months ago, this station and the rest of the rail network were plagued

00:10by disruptions due to a long-running pay dispute between rail workers and the New South Wales

00:17government.

00:18Now, what we know is that the pay dispute has now calmed down, but Transport Minister

00:25John Graham says the fare-free days in no way will fully compensate people for the disruptions.

00:32However, may make the trains, the commute just a bit easier on trains and a little bit easier

00:39on people's wallets.

00:40And what about travellers taking buses, ferries or light rail?

00:45Do they get a free fare as well?

00:47Well, not everybody will be getting a free ride, Gemma.

00:53Buses, ferries and the light rail will be charging people as per normal.

00:58But transport authorities really do want to stress that for anyone using the rail, even

01:04for an interstate trip to Melbourne, they will be free.

01:08So, the Opal card readers will be switched off at midnight tonight and be opened again

01:14on 6am Saturday.
