00:01:00Hey, it's an awful long way down to that street, mister.
00:01:08I don't care.
00:01:09You won't look very pretty when you get there.
00:01:11People.
00:01:12People.
00:01:13Strange you might hit somebody, huh?
00:01:14People.
00:01:15No, no.
00:01:16It's best that they scare me.
00:01:18People scare you?
00:01:19But you're not a scare to me, are you?
00:01:20No, I like you.
00:01:22You've got a nice face.
00:01:24Oh, lots of people got nice faces.
00:01:25Millions of people.
00:01:27Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of.
00:01:28Millions of people.
00:01:30Hundreds of people.
00:01:31Thousands.
00:01:32Anything more than a dozen.
00:01:34How did you get that way?
00:01:36I don't know.
00:01:36It came on me suddenly two months ago.
00:01:39You must be a desperate character.
00:01:41No, I'm an actor.
00:01:43An actor?
00:01:44You can't act as an actor, aren't any people, can you?
00:01:47No.
00:01:48That's why I came up here.
00:01:50Maybe it's just a case of stage fights.
00:01:52It's a million times worse than that.
00:01:54Since this thing happened to me, I can't remember a face.
00:01:58Now, look, don't give me that.
00:01:59You just got through saying I have a nice face.
00:02:01Yeah, but I've never seen you before.
00:02:04Or have I?
00:02:05Brother, you've seen me up here every day for a month.
00:02:08Have I?
00:02:08Yeah.
00:02:09Oh, that's bad.
00:02:11Now I can't even remember a good face.
00:02:14Look, thousands of people come up here.
00:02:16They get nervous from the heights.
00:02:17But I ain't never been nervous until I started talking to you.
00:02:20You make me nervous.
00:02:22Now get down out of here and stay down.
00:02:26Boy, am I glad I got rid of him.
00:02:30Oh, now what?
00:02:32I make that other guard nervous.
00:02:34Look, I'm the other guard.
00:02:36I'm the only guard up here.
00:02:37I mean, brother, they got doctors for guys like you.
00:02:41So I can't touch.
00:02:42That's what you got.
00:02:44There's one right here and it's good.
00:02:45You better come along with me.
00:02:48All right.
00:02:57This guy wants to see Dr. Grail.
00:02:58What?
00:02:59He's trouble.
00:02:59He's trouble.
00:02:59Would you mind sitting down over there?
00:03:10Yes, ma'am.
00:03:11Just do what the doctor tells you, buddy, and everything will be all right.
00:03:14Oh, I'm not...
00:03:16How are you?
00:03:17Oh.
00:03:18I beg your pardon.
00:03:19Don't let him come back.
00:03:20I'm in the tower.
00:03:21He's got me scared now.
00:03:23Bye.
00:03:23Uh, would you mind sitting down over there?
00:03:27Yes, ma'am.
00:03:33Miss Madison's K-50, doctor.
00:03:37Mm-hmm.
00:03:37Blood pressure up already.
00:03:39If you wonder I have any blood left, the top of my head feels like it's going to blow off any minute.
00:03:43I haven't slept all week.
00:03:44Martha Madison, there's only one thing wrong with you.
00:03:47Madison University.
00:03:48Why don't you get rid of that part, Alice?
00:03:49Oh, I couldn't do that.
00:03:51That's why Madison followed the great university.
00:03:54And you know Dad's last request was that I...
00:03:56I keep it open and keep the name of Madison alive.
00:03:59Mm-hmm.
00:04:00Well, I know.
00:04:01But you better get out and relax once in a while.
00:04:04Why don't you go out and have some fun?
00:04:06Get that school off your mind.
00:04:08Oh, let's see if you're said and done, doctor.
00:04:10At the present, I'm...
00:04:11I'm...
00:04:12They're both in trouble.
00:04:16You have lots of friends.
00:04:18Yeah, you mean I used to have.
00:04:20Until they found when I wasn't rich.
00:04:22Honestly, I...
00:04:23I get so lots of the times, I...
00:04:25I feel like yelling,
00:04:26Oh, silver!
00:04:28In that case,
00:04:29why don't you go out and sow some wild oats?
00:04:32Well, I'm sorry.
00:04:34I...
00:04:34I guess I just don't know how to go about that kind of farming.
00:04:38I don't know if I knew what I could do to help them out of it.
00:04:42Maybe you know somebody that needs a girlfriend like I need a boyfriend.
00:04:45And you could start a...
00:04:47You know what I could do to help them out of it?
00:04:48Huh?
00:04:49Maybe.
00:04:49In the meantime, if you'll just wait outside,
00:04:52I'll fix up some powders that at least will give you a good night's rest.
00:04:55All right.
00:04:56Bye.
00:04:56Bye.
00:04:59Oh!
00:05:00Boy, I'm awfully sorry.
00:05:02I...
00:05:03It's all right.
00:05:07May I have a name, please?
00:05:09Marlo Mansfield Booth.
00:05:13Are you in a relationship to Mansfield Booth,
00:05:15a great-shade screen and actor?
00:05:17He was my papa.
00:05:19So you must be the grandson of Marlo Mansfield.
00:05:21Yes, ma'am.
00:05:22Oh.
00:05:22All my ancestors were actors.
00:05:25But my mother,
00:05:26she was an actress.
00:05:29Oh.
00:05:30That's wonderful.
00:05:31I bet you're an actor, too, aren't you?
00:05:33Oh, sure.
00:05:34I'm in a play that's opening tonight at the Garrett Opera House.
00:05:37Oh.
00:05:37I love actors and plays and things.
00:05:43Here it is.
00:05:44Oh, doctor, this is Mr. Marlo Mansfield Booth.
00:05:47He's an actor.
00:05:48Really?
00:05:49Yes.
00:05:49How do you do it?
00:05:50Well, doctor, you take that.
00:05:53You'll sleep tonight.
00:05:54But I don't want to sleep tomorrow.
00:05:57I don't...
00:05:58I don't...
00:06:00Well, the doctor will see you in an hour.
00:06:05Bye.
00:06:06Bye.
00:06:07Bye.
00:06:12Do you something?
00:06:13Well, I...
00:06:14Whoa.
00:06:15Oh.
00:06:16I'm good.
00:06:17Well, goodbye.
00:06:20Bye.
00:06:21Oh.
00:06:22I'm good.
00:06:27Marlo Mansfield.
00:06:30What's your trouble, buddy?
00:06:36What's that?
00:06:37I say, what do you want to see the doctor for?
00:06:39But I am the doctor.
00:06:41You just met me outside.
00:06:43Shucks.
00:06:44There I go again.
00:06:46I'm...
00:06:46I'm always forgetting faces, doctor.
00:06:48You're lucky.
00:06:49There are a lot of faces I'd like to forget.
00:06:52Prepare for an examination.
00:06:53Oh.
00:06:55Oh.
00:06:56Okay.
00:06:57I'll be there.
00:06:57I'm going to be there.
00:06:59You're lucky.
00:07:00I'll be there.
00:07:01There you go.
00:07:01I'll be there.
00:07:03I'll be there.
00:07:04I'll be there.
00:07:05Arrgh.
00:07:06Oh, no, fucking.
00:07:24My examination has proved one thing, Mr. Booth.
00:07:27Your troubles are in your mind.
00:07:28But, doctor, maybe once or before I was born,
00:07:32my mother was frightened by an audience.
00:07:34Please, forget everything but this.
00:07:36When you're facing the audience tonight for the first time,
00:07:39don't think they're sneering at you.
00:07:40All of these ideas may be and usually are purely imaginary.
00:07:44Yes, sir.
00:07:45I'll try, sir.
00:07:47Think this.
00:07:47The audience doesn't hate you.
00:07:49They remember your famous father and mother.
00:07:51They want to like you.
00:07:53Yeah, but what about me forgetting faces, though, doctor?
00:07:56One thing at a time.
00:07:58Just focus on the opening of the play tonight.
00:08:01You won't be frightened.
00:08:03I won't be frightened.
00:08:07I won't be frightened.
00:08:09That's it.
00:08:11That's all.
00:08:12Thank you, doctor.
00:08:15I won't be frightened.
00:08:19I won't be frightened.
00:08:21I won't be frightened.
00:08:44I won't be frightened.
00:08:46I won't.
00:08:47If there be none to stay thy hand,
00:08:50then off would struggle stand.
00:08:54Oh, name.
00:08:58Oh.
00:09:06It are thick.
00:09:09My stories are ugly.
00:09:11Oh, name.
00:09:17Get off the stage.
00:09:20Get off the stage.
00:09:21Get off the stage.
00:09:24Oh, no.
00:09:25I don't want to be down the cliff.
00:09:27Oh, no.
00:09:27I don't want to lie behind him.
00:09:29Mr. Robert, if he still got something...
00:09:31If all one can do this to me,
00:09:33I'll kill him.
00:09:35Now, there you are, fellas.
00:09:36Get out of here.
00:09:37Send your costume back.
00:09:38Hurry.
00:09:39Hey, driver.
00:09:50Get me out of here.
00:09:51Drive somewhere fast.
00:09:54Oh, how do you do?
00:09:56How do you do?
00:09:57Well, what are you doing here?
00:09:59I was waiting for you, Mr. Booth.
00:10:01How did you know my name?
00:10:03Well, I met you in the doctor's office.
00:10:04Remember?
00:10:08Oh, yeah.
00:10:09Yeah, sure.
00:10:10Yeah.
00:10:11It was awful nice of you there.
00:10:13Save me.
00:10:14Oh.
00:10:15Well, just make yourself comfortable.
00:10:18I'll save you as long as you want me to save you.
00:10:23Um.
00:10:25I just were all alone for those afternoon.
00:10:26Uh, this is Henry, the butler.
00:10:28Mr. Fishbeck has been calling.
00:10:32He did a divergent view to be in his office at Madison Junction tomorrow morning.
00:10:35Oh, thank you, Henry.
00:10:39My name is Miss Martha Madison, sir.
00:10:43Mr. Boo's father was the great actor, Henry.
00:10:45Ah, the son of the great booze.
00:10:48Well, this is indeed a privilege, sir.
00:10:51Yes, may I take your hat, sir?
00:10:53Oh, thank you.
00:10:55Henry was an actor once.
00:10:57He got us so beautifully on the stage that he came here to battle.
00:11:01Before we went broke.
00:11:03He can spend an hour here and he'll forget all about tonight by tomorrow.
00:11:06I'm putting you and father here.
00:11:08Oh, doesn't he mind sleeping double?
00:11:10Oh, no, he's dead.
00:11:12Everybody that ever lived here is dead.
00:11:15Except me.
00:11:16My grandfather's hanging behind you.
00:11:21My grandfather found at Madison University.
00:11:24Ah, he was a son of it.
00:11:26See, it's awful nice of you to stay.
00:11:28It's nice to have a man in the house again.
00:11:31Have you got a girlfriend?
00:11:32Oh, sure.
00:11:33Er, no, I don't think girls see very much in me.
00:11:38Oh, but I do.
00:11:41I mean, um, I'd like to help you get over being afraid of people.
00:11:46That's what I mean.
00:11:47Thank you, ma'am.
00:11:47And, and forgetting faces, too?
00:11:50Oh, you can forget my faces, you know.
00:11:52I don't care.
00:11:53Gee, if I ever remember anybody's face, I'll bet I remember yours.
00:11:58Your face is different.
00:12:00You, you remind me of my mother.
00:12:03Oh.
00:12:05Your mother was beautiful.
00:12:08Or you.
00:12:09Gee, if I...
00:12:19Ain't you.
00:12:22Oh.
00:12:23Why, I hope you won't think me too bold, having just met, but I...
00:12:29I'd like to...
00:12:31Yes, Marlowe?
00:12:32Now, would you mind if I just once?
00:12:36Oh, please do.
00:12:40Oh, gee, that was a filth.
00:12:44I, I hope you don't think I was too fresh.
00:12:48Oh.
00:12:49You can get a lot fresher.
00:12:52Anytime you like to.
00:12:54Yeah, well, once was enough, thank you, ma'am.
00:12:58Good night.
00:13:03Henry.
00:13:04As one actor to another, sit down.
00:13:06Oh, thank you.
00:13:07Kind of, sir.
00:13:08It would be an honor to know that a booze has borrowed my pajamas.
00:13:11Henry.
00:13:13Have...
00:13:13Have you ever been scared of...
00:13:16Of anything more than a dozen people?
00:13:20The booze.
00:13:20I'd have you know that during my career, I suffered such stage fright at one time,
00:13:24that I said, come in, eleven times, before I realized it was my knee knocking.
00:13:30Yeah, I know.
00:13:31Your stomach feels as though the seven dwarfs are practicing the piano down there.
00:13:36Exactly, sir, but I cured myself.
00:13:38Yeah?
00:13:39I went out into the country near Madison Junction and found myself a physician extracting the milk from cows.
00:13:45Oh, it was wonderful.
00:13:46I saw a picture of one once when I was a boy.
00:13:48I wanted to see one close-up ever since.
00:13:51Well, then, sir, I recommend Madison County.
00:13:53You'll find it excruciatingly bucolic.
00:13:55I haven't had the bucolic since I was a little baby.
00:14:00Well, sir, goodnight, sir.
00:14:01I'll leave you alone with more, sir.
00:14:03Yes.
00:14:04Who?
00:14:05Oh, good morning, Henry.
00:14:28Good morning, Henry.
00:14:29Lovely morning, isn't it?
00:14:30The birds are flying, you know, I feel so dead.
00:14:33How do you feel, Henry?
00:14:34Slightly crestfallen.
00:14:35Oh, it's wonderful.
00:14:36I'm very happy.
00:14:37Um, is he, um, I mean, uh, has he?
00:14:40No, miss, he isn't.
00:14:41He left this note for you.
00:14:43He?
00:14:44Come on.
00:14:45I have gone out into the country to learn about cows, miss.
00:14:54Cows.
00:14:55Hope you will forgive me if Marlon might feel good.
00:15:07Breakfast, we won't.
00:15:09Henry.
00:15:11Very good, miss.
00:15:45Bye.
00:15:46Bye.
00:15:46Bye.
00:15:47Bye.
00:16:04Bye.
00:16:07Bye.
00:16:13Bye.
00:16:13Tough guy, huh?
00:16:34Big you on the road, don't you?
00:16:36How long have you been driving?
00:16:40Don't talk back to me.
00:16:43There.
00:16:44Sign this.
00:16:46Say that you're in court on Friday morning or we'll send out a bench one and drag you in.
00:16:49Get me?
00:16:51Don't forget that a little child, even a little chicken, might want to cross the road.
00:16:58They have a right to live, haven't they?
00:17:01All right.
00:17:03Drive on.
00:17:09Hey!
00:17:09Gee, you're the toughest traffic cop I ever saw.
00:17:17You must have come from Brooklyn or someplace.
00:17:20Shucks, I'm no cop.
00:17:21Honest?
00:17:22Well, gee, what I wish they'd let us motorcops be as tough as you were.
00:17:25Why, aren't you tough?
00:17:26No, not anymore.
00:17:27I used to be awful tough, but we got a new superintendent.
00:17:30Courtesy.
00:17:31That's his, uh, what word?
00:17:33How do you arrest anybody?
00:17:34I'll show you.
00:17:35I'm awfully sorry, sir, but you were driving in excess of our local speed limit.
00:17:42Yes, I'm sorry, too.
00:17:44I hesitate to ask it, but will you sign this traffic ticket?
00:17:47My, what beautiful handwriting.
00:17:51Thank you, sir.
00:17:52So sorry to have troubled you this way.
00:17:54May you have a pleasant journey, with little or no fatalities.
00:17:58Good day.
00:18:01Chrissy.
00:18:02Watch me.
00:18:15Chrissy.
00:18:15Oh, gee.
00:18:22Oh, I'm so happy I found you.
00:18:24The pleasure is all mine, madam.
00:18:27It is with anguish in my heart that I inform you that you are going, oh, so fast.
00:18:32As a matter of fact, that feety-winksy bit too fast.
00:18:35Oh, well, maybe I was, but I'm so glad I found you.
00:18:39I didn't care.
00:18:40Do you know the lady?
00:18:42I never saw her before in my life.
00:18:45There.
00:18:47Now, madam, I simply detest keeping you here any longer than necessary.
00:18:51So if you will please be all so kind as to sign this ticket, you may pursue your way.
00:18:56But I won't sign that ticket until you tell me who I am.
00:18:59Well, you're who you are.
00:19:02May I guess?
00:19:03Uh-huh.
00:19:04Are you animal, vegetable, or mineral?
00:19:12Catch me and find out.
00:19:15Well, she doesn't sign the ticket.
00:19:17Maybe we'd better pursue it.
00:19:18Maybe we both have to go.
00:19:36Bye.
00:19:37Uh-huh.
00:19:38THE END
00:20:08Martha Madison
00:20:17That's her name
00:20:18I remember her face
00:20:21My motorcycle
00:20:26My car
00:20:26Madison
00:20:29Hey, mister
00:20:40Oh, yes, right away
00:20:42Have you seen two men on a...
00:20:44Nice, fresh, and hot
00:20:45No, thanks
00:20:46Have you seen two men on a preacher's motorcycle
00:20:49When one of them was in the police room looking for me?
00:20:51Who are you?
00:20:52I'm Martha Madison
00:20:53Yeah, I know
00:20:55Your grandpappy Madison got shot in the Civil War
00:20:57He's the fellow that found a university outside of this town
00:21:00After he found this town
00:21:01Well, if you ask me
00:21:03They didn't shoot you a grandpappy sooner
00:21:05I'm an honest man
00:21:07I'm trying to make an honest living
00:21:08And I haven't sold five cents with a popcorn in this town all day
00:21:11And do you know the reason why?
00:21:12No, I know you don't
00:21:13Well, I'll tell you
00:21:14Because your grandpappy started to jump like this
00:21:17Can you tell me of any other town in the United States
00:21:19Where a man can sell at least five cents with a popcorn?
00:21:22Well, I was only trying to find out you've seen a couple of men on a policeman's motorcycle
00:21:27He's weird
00:21:28Well, Miss Madison
00:21:37Have you made up your dandy little mind?
00:21:39I phoned you half a dozen times today
00:21:41Yeah?
00:21:41Now, don't ask any sympathy
00:21:43I know your father owned this company, but I'm present now
00:21:45Well, Mr. Fishbeck, if you just gave me time to develop new faculty for Madison
00:21:48Faculty cost money
00:21:50Well, I promise, Scotty, I'll keep the university open
00:21:52But there must be someone
00:21:54Well, certainly not your way
00:21:55Your ways are old-fashioned
00:21:56This is three-line age today
00:21:57You should talk
00:21:59I could sell the house
00:22:00If you're lit with enough to sell your home, that's your business
00:22:03Well, I don't invest in you in a house
00:22:04If you're living by yourself
00:22:05Madison has helped thousands of people get somewhere
00:22:08And don't forget, Mr. Fishbeck
00:22:09You went to Madison
00:22:10And what's more, I looked up in the records
00:22:12And you weren't so very bright
00:22:13You were seven years of freshmen
00:22:15I don't have any of your lit, Miss Madison
00:22:16Your family name don't mean any more to be from a bag of popcorn
00:22:19Oh, uh, hot corn
00:22:22Nice and fresh
00:22:23Yes
00:22:24Well
00:22:28Michael Madison, I remember you
00:22:33Fifth Avenue, Henry the Butler, your great-grandfather's hang on the hall
00:22:36I slept in your father's bed
00:22:38I remember you
00:22:39Nice and fresh, poor corn
00:22:41It's nice and hot, it's nice and fresh
00:22:44Mr. Fishbeck
00:22:45In behalf of myself and family
00:22:47I'm here to profess confiscation of our belongings
00:22:50For much less the directual work
00:22:53If I'm lucky that the property may return what you're borrowed from
00:22:55But no more
00:22:56That's all
00:22:57Unhappily, I need not be the position to argue with me
00:23:00But could you advance enough money for food for my family
00:23:04And take it back to the yacht
00:23:07Regarding securities
00:23:08I have this book containing the signatures of all the great actors and actresses
00:23:14The book is priceless
00:23:17Priceless?
00:23:18Let me look at it
00:23:19That's priceless
00:23:22Do you expect me to loan you money on a bright-written book like this
00:23:27Because Mansfield Booth autographed it?
00:23:31Mansfield Booth?
00:23:33Yes
00:23:34That is Papa's handwriting
00:23:36You are
00:23:37Yes, you are
00:23:38I can see your beloved father's face in yours
00:23:41The family
00:23:42The son of Mansfield Booth
00:23:44Stand before you
00:23:45Yes, sir
00:23:46I remember your face
00:23:48Your Hamilton McGlynn
00:23:50Hey, Mr. McGlynn
00:23:51Take your book and get out of here
00:23:52This commotion is unbearable
00:23:54Hey, Mr. Fishbeck
00:23:55Aren't you going to lend them any money
00:23:56At taking all their property away from them?
00:23:58You gold standard
00:23:59She'll push you
00:23:59What'd you call me?
00:24:00Whatever she calls you goes double with me
00:24:02If these unwelcome people will leave
00:24:04I will hear your decision on your defunct university
00:24:07Your university?
00:24:09Do you own a university?
00:24:11Yeah, but she can't open it
00:24:12Because she hasn't any faculty or any money
00:24:13Her best chance is to let me turn it into a shoe factory
00:24:16Shoe factory?
00:24:18Yes, a shoe factory
00:24:19You haven't any faculty?
00:24:23Could you be her faculty?
00:24:25We will be delighted
00:24:25Why, we ran the McGlynn School of Dhamatics for ten years
00:24:28The Madison University of Dhamatics
00:24:30Oh, Marley, do you think we can get students to come?
00:24:34Sure, I'll be your president
00:24:36We'll open up the university
00:24:37The students will flock
00:24:38They'll pay their tuition
00:24:39And fish cakes can get his money
00:24:41Fishbeck
00:24:42Will you come out of your delirium long enough
00:24:44To tell me about your home, Miss Madison?
00:24:47Well, sir
00:24:48Greenback old goat cute
00:24:50This is a C-9 age
00:24:52We're going to open up a new Madison University
00:24:54Yeah
00:24:54Then, oh Marley, you go down in history
00:24:58Well, maybe you'll be vice president of the United States someday
00:25:01Oh, shucks
00:25:02I couldn't be vice president
00:25:04I like fishing too well
00:25:06Oh, shucks
00:26:15There are only nine of us here now, so say something.
00:26:20Pupils.
00:26:21We haven't got any pupils.
00:26:24May I interpolate this suggestion, sir?
00:26:26It's merely one of my typical brainwaves.
00:26:28What is it, Henry?
00:26:29We have no football team.
00:26:31Well, how am I going to have a football team?
00:26:33We haven't even enough students for a ping-pong game.
00:26:36Well, that's just the point.
00:26:37In this day and age, no college can possibly be considered to be a success without a football team.
00:26:42I'll read in your American newspapers that football teams are the reason young Americans go to college.
00:26:47He's right.
00:26:48When I was a motor cop, there was always hundreds of thousands of people going to some college to see a football game.
00:26:53And if some good with a football player's role, that will attract more girls.
00:26:57And if more girls come, that will attract more boys.
00:27:00I think you've got something there.
00:27:14I think you've got something there.
00:27:44Do you go to Madison?
00:27:59I teach romance there.
00:28:01Yes.
00:28:03Well, that's all the inducement I need to transfer to Madison, lady.
00:28:08Oh.
00:28:08Oh, I get it.
00:28:14Oh.
00:28:32Excuse me, sir.
00:28:35Your gown, sir.
00:28:35Yes, Henry.
00:28:36Yes, sir.
00:28:36Very sweet.
00:28:37Wait, my God.
00:28:38I'm sorry, sir.
00:28:39It goes the other way, I think.
00:28:41It looks very much custom to these things.
00:28:43I know, sir.
00:28:44It goes there.
00:28:45I do know.
00:28:50Welcome.
00:28:51Hey, how do you like your football team, Coach?
00:28:53Aren't they beautiful?
00:28:54Nice, sir.
00:28:55Here we are.
00:28:56Here we are.
00:28:57How did you get all the girls to eat them?
00:28:59Oh, those are new pupils.
00:29:00They started arriving as soon as the football boys got their pictures in the papers.
00:29:04They all seem to like the same kind of automobile.
00:29:07Well, I had to fill the automobile since the bonus to get them to meet their colleagues.
00:29:11Hey, I don't have to make a speech, do I?
00:29:14No, not until you talk to them on the field.
00:29:16Are you all ready?
00:29:17Oh, sure.
00:29:18I read a whole book on football.
00:29:21Seems like a lot of fun.
00:29:22Yeah, I...
00:29:23Hey, don't tell me you haven't even seen a football game.
00:29:26No, but it's all very simple in the book.
00:29:28Look, I'll show you.
00:29:32You see?
00:29:32Now, X runs where Y isn't, and A tackles B so that C can come through and get the ball
00:29:39from Y, who has caught it from X, who threw it to him sideways.
00:29:43That's what they call a lateral kick.
00:29:45Er, er.
00:29:45I mean, pass.
00:29:47Oh, I can hardly wait till I tell the team about it.
00:29:49Personally, I think this Madison gal's a little off or nothing.
00:29:58Football and dramatics just tone mixed.
00:30:00Yeah, but that check don't bounce, brother.
00:30:01Well, come here to that new road show, Mark?
00:30:03Not to mention that little sweetheart, Betty.
00:30:05Boy, I could go crazy for all those curves and really enjoy it.
00:30:07Yeah.
00:30:08Follow a straight line on the floor if you don't keep your mouth shut.
00:30:10Hey, well, it's because you rode with her on the car.
00:30:12There's no sign you got first ball on that little firecracker, Sonny.
00:30:15Oh, wait.
00:30:15Hey, buddy, you asked for it.
00:30:16Here, now, now, wait a minute, young man.
00:30:18Will you get out of here?
00:30:22I'll get to you later.
00:30:23Yeah, right.
00:30:27Coach's word must be law.
00:30:30The players respect the coach who is apparently...
00:30:33Hey, see here.
00:30:41Say, who do you think you are?
00:30:43That's what I've been trying to tell you.
00:30:44I'm the coach.
00:30:45Oh, I'm sorry.
00:30:47Now, listen, gents.
00:30:49Your all-American names don't mean anything to me.
00:30:54And until your names mean something, you'll go by numbers.
00:30:56Understand?
00:30:58Go on.
00:30:59Two.
00:30:59Three.
00:30:59Four.
00:31:00Five.
00:31:00Six.
00:31:00Seven.
00:31:01Eight.
00:31:01Nine.
00:31:02Ten.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:02Eleven.
00:31:03Eleven.
00:31:03Eleven.
00:31:03Eleven.
00:31:04Eleven.
00:31:05Eleven.
00:31:06Eleven.
00:31:07Eleven.
00:31:08Eleven.
00:31:09Eleven.
00:31:10Eleven.
00:31:11Eleven.
00:31:12Eleven.
00:31:13Eleven.
00:31:14Eleven.
00:31:15Eleven.
00:31:16Eleven.
00:31:17Now, young gentlemen, I have a very important pronouncement to make.
00:31:21There's never to be more than eleven men in the room with coach fooled at any one time.
00:31:26That includes Mr. Bagg.
00:31:28May me be excused.
00:31:29Oh, what about our substitutes, coach?
00:31:33Substitute, John?
00:31:34Well, I've been reading enough paper that you're all iron men.
00:31:39Ha, ha.
00:31:40Says in my book, I mean, how many men are taken like a football team?
00:31:43Eleven.
00:31:44Eleven.
00:31:45And how many men are taken like a football team?
00:31:46Eleven.
00:31:47And how many men we've got here?
00:31:48Counting you as a man.
00:31:49Eleven.
00:31:50Eleven.
00:31:51Fire.
00:31:52And we're going through the season with just eleven men.
00:31:54Who do we need to play a game of football or...
00:31:57Or...
00:31:58Two guards, two tackles, two ends, a center, and four backs.
00:32:13Now.
00:32:14Where's my center?
00:32:15Where my guards?
00:32:16Where are my tackles?
00:32:17Where are my tackles?
00:32:18Haven't I even got an end?
00:32:19I play end, coach.
00:32:20I guess Miss Madsen had a weakness for backs, coach.
00:32:21Cause, uh...
00:32:22All the rest of us are backs.
00:32:23Ten backs and one end.
00:32:24Well...
00:32:25Well...
00:32:26Well...
00:32:27Guess we'll have to do something about that, won't we?
00:32:30Yeah.
00:32:31You bet.
00:32:32You bet.
00:32:33You bet.
00:32:34You bet.
00:32:35You bet.
00:32:36You bet.
00:32:37You bet.
00:32:38You bet.
00:32:39You bet.
00:32:40You bet.
00:32:41You bet.
00:32:42You bet.
00:32:43You bet.
00:32:44You bet.
00:32:45You bet.
00:32:46You bet.
00:32:47That's all he thought you're a fact.
00:32:48Once I see you out on that field, I'll tell you what you're gonna play.
00:32:51And you'll play it!
00:32:52Got me?
00:32:53Yes, sir.
00:32:54That'll be all for today.
00:32:55Might've started tomorrow at four o'clock.
00:32:57Now.
00:32:58Go and sign up for your classes.
00:32:59Where do we go, coach?
00:33:00Go to the president.
00:33:01He'll tell you what to do.
00:33:02I'm only the coach!
00:33:04Yes, sir.
00:33:05Yes, sir.
00:33:06You have?
00:33:19Oh, sorry.
00:33:23The football team is to see you, Mr. President Booth.
00:33:26Send it in.
00:33:27Mr. President, we'll see you, boy.
00:33:33Well, gentlemen, what will it be?
00:33:36Well, you, I mean, the coach told us to see you about, I mean, the president, about classes.
00:33:44Classes?
00:33:44Oh, classes.
00:33:46Oh, yes.
00:33:47Sorry.
00:33:47Classes have all been completed today.
00:33:49You will all be here tomorrow morning and sign up for your future studies.
00:33:53Go.
00:33:54Thank you, sir.
00:33:59Oh, just a moment.
00:34:01Just for a moment.
00:34:02I nearly forgot.
00:34:03There will be a class in romance night at 8 o'clock in the school gardens.
00:34:07Miss Betty McGill will be the instructor.
00:34:10I want you all to attend.
00:34:12There will be a class in romance night at 8 o'clock in the school gardens.
00:34:17Marcy.
00:34:20There's a whole moon out there, right?
00:34:24I've never thought of stopping down the road in the school.
00:34:27Hmm?
00:34:28You can't just be half of age if you are.
00:34:33Well, before I have to take anything?
00:34:34Well, you can't just be half of age if you have to take anything, but you'll have to do it just to be a dream girl.
00:34:48Needless to say, you'll have to imagine that the man playing up is a dream come true.
00:35:05Of course, if there happens to be a virtual attraction, that will make the scene more natural.
00:35:13For that reason, we'll let the boys select their own partner.
00:35:16First, I'd like someone to help you demonstrate the proper romantic technique.
00:35:21Will someone volunteer?
00:35:23You're near us, Kelly.
00:35:25Wait.
00:35:27Now the rest of you can make me part.
00:35:29Will each couple kindly take a bench?
00:35:41Now you must imagine yourselves on stage in a lovely room.
00:35:45You gentlemen will say this line to be on to your partner.
00:35:49Listen.
00:35:50If all my dreams of loving were molded into one perfect room, she would have seen me.
00:35:57Does everybody understand that?
00:35:59Yes, you get it.
00:36:00Now if the class will climb the clock, we'll give a demonstration of the proper romantic technique.
00:36:06Ooh.
00:36:07You bet.
00:36:13If all my dreams of loving were molded into one perfect room, she would have been like you.
00:36:21There.
00:36:21I bet.
00:36:22Now if everybody is in the mood and knows what to do, will the class try it?
00:36:33Yes, it is.
00:36:34Yes.
00:36:34Yes.
00:36:35It's the proper romantic technique.
00:36:39Now as everybody is in the mood and knows what to do,
00:36:44will the class try it?
00:36:46Yes, it is.
00:36:46Yes.
00:36:59Y laterals to Z plus the radius of three square roots
00:37:04in the left half, opposite the square of three G's.
00:37:17Myron.
00:37:18Hmm?
00:37:18I said it, and don't you think you should go out
00:37:20and see how the students are getting along in romance?
00:37:23Oh.
00:37:24It's, um, well, it might give you an idea.
00:37:28I mean an idea as to how they're getting along.
00:37:32They're awful quiet.
00:37:33Must be steadying pretty hard.
00:37:46You don't call that good acting, do you?
00:37:49Oh.
00:37:50Watch.
00:37:52Give all my dreams of loveliness.
00:37:54We're molded into one earthy woman.
00:37:57Here I am.
00:37:58Say that to me.
00:37:59Get all my dreams of loveliness.
00:38:03Oh, we can all see that, Myron.
00:38:04Let's get to the exciting part.
00:38:09Hmm.
00:38:10To all the new students of Madison University,
00:38:13I give this word of welcome.
00:38:15You are embarking on your path to success and glory
00:38:18as actors in dear young Madison.
00:38:21You are following in the footsteps of my forefathers.
00:38:24What's happened, Myron?
00:38:26You're speaking about the people, and you're not scared.
00:38:28You're cured.
00:38:29Oh.
00:38:30When you kissed me, something snapped in here.
00:38:33I forgot to be frightened.
00:38:36Perhaps President Booth will honor us
00:38:37through a few words concerning love to him,
00:38:39played by his fingers first.
00:38:41Well, students, I'll say one thing for Papa.
00:38:44As I was saying, dear students,
00:38:53you could always depend on my father
00:38:55playing a great love scene.
00:38:58If there was one thing that the old man liked to do,
00:39:01if there was one...
00:39:03Oh, Myron, I thought you were cured.
00:39:06Well, I guess the kiss wore off.
00:39:10Gosh, it's 8.15.
00:39:14Good night.
00:39:15Mama, where are you going?
00:39:17To my room.
00:39:18Your room?
00:39:18Sure, it's 8.15.
00:39:20Well, for what?
00:39:22Time for the Lone Ranger to come on.
00:39:25Good night.
00:39:26Good night.
00:39:31Your president was overcome by memories
00:39:35of his distinguished father.
00:39:37Continue with your work, Mr. President.
00:39:40Send it, students.
00:39:42Let's try it again.
00:39:43Oh, my God.
00:39:49My God.
00:39:54You may spell
00:40:02Love with the Capitone
00:40:04But I spell
00:40:07Love with the Capitone
00:40:10You're the day, you're away
00:40:14And I'm more than more than more
00:40:18And you be here, I hope, I hope, I hope
00:40:23All around you, now there's a capital you
00:40:30Would just lead me to a capital you
00:40:35I can sell, sell, sell, sell
00:40:40As the dictionaries do
00:40:43But I sell love with a capital you
00:40:48You may sell love with a capital L
00:40:56But I sell love with a capital you
00:41:01All through the day, you're away
00:41:05And I'm more than more than more
00:41:08And you be here, I hope, I hope, I hope
00:41:14All around you, now there's a capital you
00:41:21Would just lead me to a capital you
00:41:26I can sell, sell, sell, sell, sell, sell
00:41:31As the dictionaries do
00:41:33But I sell love with a capital you
00:41:45Let's roll back, we're going to see who plays what
00:42:00I've hit 11 positions
00:42:02Go
00:42:02Pull back
00:42:06Okay
00:42:07Water back
00:42:08Well, I wasn't made no longer for nothing
00:42:10End
00:42:10I've never played end before in my life
00:42:12Here, I'm an end
00:42:13Well, please
00:42:13Here
00:42:14Play fair
00:42:15Come on, let's go
00:42:16All right, fellas
00:42:21Well, what do you want us to do, Spoon?
00:42:23Don't you know?
00:42:24No
00:42:25Play football
00:42:26Who are we going to play?
00:42:29Who are we going to play?
00:42:30Yeah
00:42:30Who are we going to play?
00:42:32Well, I don't know
00:42:33I'll have to ask Miss Madison about that
00:42:35Well, they mean who are we going to scrimmage again
00:42:37You know, you just can't play a game of football all by yourself
00:42:40You men are all American players or you wouldn't be here
00:42:43If you think I'm going to fool around with fundamentals, you're crazy
00:42:45I'm not going to bother to come back on this field until you know every play in that book
00:42:49I'm a fool
00:42:50Hmm
00:42:51Not a kindergarten teacher
00:42:53Send for me when you're ready
00:42:55Check the bed
00:42:56When do you think I can take possession?
00:43:04Big fact
00:43:04Well, Mr. Johnson
00:43:06The place is likely mine now
00:43:08The minute you sign the lease, I'll start making all the races
00:43:10Make a big fact
00:43:11At least he works with a man of shoes
00:43:13But I wasn't really a truck
00:43:14He went and I broke it down
00:43:15What's that?
00:43:16And someday I might forget that I'm one of the races
00:43:18I don't need to get there
00:43:20Now you get out of here and stay out
00:43:21This is still my house
00:43:23I didn't do something to you
00:43:28More trouble
00:43:30What's the matter, Marlon?
00:43:35Oh, the football team wants to know who we're going to play in
00:43:38I haven't got the answer
00:43:40Well, who do they want to play?
00:43:41We might start the season off in a small way
00:43:44By saying Alabama, Pittsburgh, Stanford, and Notre Dame
00:43:49But maybe the Army and the Navy
00:43:51Why, they any good?
00:43:53My little book says that they're pretty good
00:43:55Well, that's simple
00:43:56I'll just send them an invitation to tell you
00:43:58Do you know where they are?
00:44:00You might find Pittsburgh in, uh, Pittsburgh
00:44:11I don't want to play
00:44:30You might find Being a little around
00:46:43Oh, come on.
00:46:44Yeah, I'll tell the boys.
00:46:54All right, boys.
00:46:55Hey, now!
00:46:56Come on!
00:47:00Now, boys, Bill, thanks for having me.
00:47:06Oh, marvelous.
00:47:08Wonderful.
00:47:09Did he make the test file every place?
00:47:11Every place.
00:47:12Now, watch this one.
00:47:13The play I figured out all by myself.
00:47:16I call it two square is equal to three B.C.
00:47:19It's based on deception.
00:47:21All right, boys.
00:47:22I tell two square is equal to four.
00:47:27What's the matter?
00:47:32Five.
00:47:34We're being scouted.
00:47:37Oh, do you know what means all the other three are afraid of us?
00:47:40Oh, Marlowe, you're the most wonderful coach
00:47:42in the whole world.
00:47:44Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that.
00:47:47The United States is probably more like it.
00:47:49Oh, no, Marlowe.
00:47:50The whole world.
00:47:51You watch it, too,
00:47:52when you beat the world champion green sea pickers.
00:47:54Oh!
00:47:58They got me.
00:48:00Big.
00:48:00Oh.
00:48:00I've been pretty patient.
00:48:10I haven't bothered you.
00:48:12But at the time you and I had an accounting, young lady,
00:48:14when you sold your house,
00:48:15it was to pay the debts on the university.
00:48:17Now, what have you done?
00:48:18I've done a lot of things
00:48:19that's going to put Madison on the map, that's what.
00:48:21Why, if we win this football game tonight,
00:48:23we can double our tuition fee
00:48:24and still turn away from you.
00:48:27And if you lose?
00:48:30Yeah, just as I thought.
00:48:32Well, you better win them all
00:48:33or Monday, Madison becomes a shoe factor.
00:48:35Do you get in?
00:48:52I know I'm not running Madison
00:48:53the way you like it,
00:48:54but I'm getting it.
00:48:59You know,
00:49:00things have changed me out there.
00:49:03Everything's going to be all right
00:49:04if you win the game tonight.
00:49:10Wish me nothing.
00:49:16Keep the seats far.
00:49:30Big, big bird, get them, big bird!
00:49:32Big, big bird!
00:49:33Wild champs to murder Madison!
00:49:36Magic's the paper!
00:49:37Here, my new young man.
00:49:39Madison's a load of greenfield pickers.
00:49:40All I know is what I read in the paper.
00:49:42Oh, Madison, something terrible as fuck.
00:49:44We've been waiting for you.
00:49:45Magic's the paper!
00:49:47Wild champs to murder Madison!
00:49:48I know.
00:50:02I know.
00:50:02Of course you're going to be here.
00:50:04I know.
00:50:04I thought everybody would be cheering.
00:50:09I spent all the final money I got left getting the Green Tree pictures.
00:50:12Nobody seems to care.
00:50:14What happened?
00:50:16Our football team is going on strike.
00:50:18Strike?
00:50:19Only catch this.
00:50:23It's a fine time to go on a strike.
00:50:25What are they striking for?
00:50:26They're not striking for.
00:50:27They're striking against.
00:50:28They will not play Green Tree.
00:50:31Why not?
00:50:31Well, I think they're scared.
00:50:33Oh, they're not scared.
00:50:35They've played some pretty tough teams in their time.
00:50:37But they say there's only 11 of us,
00:50:39and they're afraid they won't make the last half without substitutes.
00:50:43Bill says he'll play against the Green Tree.
00:50:45Thanks, Bill.
00:50:46We can't beat the Green Sears with a one-man football team.
00:50:50Hardly enough.
00:50:51Takes 11.
00:50:53You think he could rip up another team?
00:50:56Impossible.
00:50:57Why, Decepty plays like two square is equal to three B.C.?
00:51:00That takes a lot of time.
00:51:03Well, then we've got to play.
00:51:04I know how we can break up this strike.
00:51:11Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:51:12Now, come out to victory.
00:51:15I'm the girl of all pink and blue.
00:51:18Woo!
00:51:19Bye, bye, bye, Madison.
00:51:21And Madison will rise by you.
00:51:25Come on, buddy in there and break up the strike.
00:51:27If you girls need any reinforcements, just call on Betty and me.
00:51:30Betty's not going in there.
00:51:32Oh, I don't play.
00:51:33Oh, we don't need any reinforcements.
00:51:35Let's go, gal.
00:51:36On your mark.
00:51:37Get set.
00:51:38Go!
00:51:38Go!
00:51:38They've been in there an hour.
00:51:54Are you sure they're your best students?
00:51:56I bet if you wouldn't in there and I would in there and you were tacking, I didn't want
00:52:00to do it.
00:52:01I bet you wouldn't if you didn't, would you?
00:52:02Oh, sure.
00:52:04I would if you didn't want me to, if I could.
00:52:06Hey, what's the chance of getting along with 10 men?
00:52:15Says in my book you must have 11.
00:52:17Well, they're less tackled, bloodless, made of ice water.
00:52:19We need reinforcements.
00:52:21Reinforcements!
00:52:22Hang on, here we go!
00:52:33They'll play it, President Booth.
00:52:36They'll play it, President Booth.
00:53:06They'll play it, President Booth.
00:53:10I see ourselves in the mountains.
00:53:12I don't know, my nation.
00:53:16Let me know, we're gonna be here.
00:53:17We're clear on the field.
00:53:19We are!
00:53:20We are!
00:53:20We are!
00:53:22We're funny.
00:53:25Woo!
00:53:25Come on!
00:53:26I'm calling, I'm gonna do it.
00:53:29I'm gonna give her Marganay.
00:53:31I'm gonna give her Longtide.
00:53:32You can't give me preach.
00:53:33Marganay City, my story.
00:53:35This is Don Wilson bringing you the start of another football season,
00:53:46and what I'm hoping it is.
00:53:48The Green Tree Pickers, last year's national professional champions against Madison.
00:53:52This Madison team is unusual in many respects.
00:53:55Every man on the team is an All-American,
00:53:57and we're not making any guesses as to how they all happened to show up at Madison this year.
00:54:01What's more, there are only 11 men in the entire squad,
00:54:04not a substitute in the place.
00:54:06Your team has come on a few minutes, and we'll give you a few more highlights.
00:54:09This game means a lot to Madison.
00:54:11They need to win this game in order to gain a reputation,
00:54:14and that's just what Madison needs.
00:54:16The big bad wolf is camping right on the mat at Madison's spot four.
00:54:20If they don't pay off a mortgage by Monday, Madison becomes a shoe factory.
00:54:23I'll bet you get a boot out of that one.
00:54:27Well, that's the situation.
00:54:29We'll have some Green Tree Pickers.
00:54:31It looks like an army.
00:54:32A hundred dollars, four, five, six, four, three.
00:54:38There's not a sign of Madison yet.
00:54:40I wonder what's all in the love.
00:54:42I saw Miles said that only 11 men could play on the team.
00:54:45Have you ever seen so many big bruises?
00:54:47Madison's going to be murder.
00:54:49That's all been taken care of.
00:54:53Is it that bad?
00:54:54I'll bet ten to one that Madison don't even score.
00:54:57I'll take a dollar of it.
00:54:58I'll take a hundred dollars' worth of that offer, Mr. Fishbeth.
00:55:03I promised that I'd never gamble.
00:55:05I'll put up your thousand dollars, team.
00:55:07You?
00:55:08Don't be foolish, young lady.
00:55:10You'll need what money you have left to support yourself after you lose Madison.
00:55:15He's right, Martha.
00:55:16Madison hasn't a chance.
00:55:18Well, I promised now I'd take his word for it.
00:55:22He says his two-square equals three-BC scoring play is good for a touchdown.
00:55:26Any time you can get 11 men to understand it.
00:55:30Well, you have a safe, man.
00:55:32All right, fellas.
00:55:33Come on.
00:55:35Two minutes.
00:55:37Now, listen, fellas.
00:55:38I was just talking to Miss Madison.
00:55:40Her happiness depends on this football game.
00:55:43And we can't let her down, can we?
00:55:44No!
00:55:45We don't care if they're world champs, do we?
00:55:48No!
00:55:48We don't care if they're top and rock, do we?
00:55:51No!
00:55:52We don't care if they break a few bones or bust a few heads,
00:55:55do we?
00:55:58Do we?
00:56:00All right?
00:56:00We're going out there and fight and die if necessary for the honor of the school.
00:56:05I'm Martha.
00:56:06Or, I mean, Miss Madison.
00:56:07Come on, let's go.
00:56:09Get out there and fight.
00:56:10Get a limb from it.
00:56:11Okay?
00:56:12All right, how are you?
00:56:13All right, how are you?
00:56:14All right, how are you?
00:56:14All right, how are you?
00:56:16Here they come now.
00:56:17Here is Madison.
00:56:1811 iron men in every man in all of America.
00:56:21They'll need to be made of, I understand, the battering these flickers deal out.
00:56:25And confidentially, I hope they've had plenty of you-know-what.
00:56:30It's not only strengthening, but it's tempting and delicious.
00:56:34Harry, I can't go out there.
00:56:46The noise, the crowd.
00:56:47Well, here you are, sir.
00:56:48Well, what's that?
00:56:49Small appearances, sir.
00:56:50You're minibating a pair of glasses.
00:56:52Nobody will know that you can't see through them until you raise the blinds like that.
00:56:56Oh.
00:56:57Oh, well, I hope it works.
00:56:59Oh, it'll work all right, sir.
00:57:01The Seabiscuit wore blinds like that when he won the handicap.
00:57:03Yeah?
00:57:04Well, if it's good enough for a Seabiscuit, it's good enough for me.
00:57:07Oh, it works.
00:57:08Come on, Henry, let's go.
00:57:09This way, sir, let's go.
00:57:10You'll follow me.
00:57:11This way, sir.
00:57:12Anyway, good luck to you, sir.
00:57:14The cross of the coin.
00:57:15Two-ton tarry of the pickers and Bill Anders of Madison.
00:57:18Hey, his.
00:57:19The coin is up.
00:57:20It's down.
00:57:20No, coach, he moved to Madison and it's up to the coin.
00:57:23He's back over.
00:57:23He's down.
00:57:24Tell him that.
00:57:24The green trees were received.
00:57:29Come on, coach, we'll go to our bench.
00:57:31Coach, who calls his men together for the last time?
00:57:35I need to call him together for some last minute instruction.
00:57:38Do you have instruction, sir?
00:57:39Just watch me for a signal.
00:57:41As soon as we get our hands on the ball, we'll pull good old two square and equal to three B.C.
00:57:46and over we go for a touchdown.
00:57:48Okay, coach.
00:57:50Come on, gang, let's go.
00:57:51Good luck, fellas.
00:57:54Let's start the game now.
00:57:57Madison will kick off as the pickers are defending the east goal.
00:58:00Champions are ready.
00:58:01Madison looks confident, although how they expect to beat the pickers without a single substitute is beyond me.
00:58:06Here's the kickoff.
00:58:09Smith kicks off.
00:58:10Madison.
00:58:11It's going wrong.
00:58:12He's breaking back.
00:58:15That's the 20.
00:58:16The 30.
00:58:18There's a ball.
00:58:19He's getting half the ball.
00:58:20He's getting beautiful blocking.
00:58:22And he's going for a touchdown.
00:58:24A touchdown.
00:58:25No, he's tackled out the Madison five-yard line.
00:58:27What a play.
00:58:28What a play.
00:58:29What's the matter?
00:58:30Am I too fast, do you?
00:58:31We're in a hole now.
00:58:35They're coming out.
00:58:37They're lining up.
00:58:38Terry is back.
00:58:39One, two.
00:58:40Terry takes the ball.
00:58:41You want to throw a big hole?
00:58:42And he's going for a touchdown.
00:58:44And the double man is a bad guy.
00:58:49What happened?
00:58:50The Green Trees has scored a touchdown.
00:58:53Oh, I thought they scored a couple of touchdowns.
00:58:55Wait till my boys get warmed up.
00:58:57I hate to think what will happen.
00:59:00Brian's conversion now.
00:59:02Terry kicks in and it's good.
00:59:06Four, three, three, six, seven.
00:59:08Madison nothing in the first hit of the play.
00:59:10Poor model.
00:59:12Madison is invited to kick off again.
00:59:14Pickers are ready to receive.
00:59:15Good kick.
00:59:17It's a long way.
00:59:17Terry's making a ball.
00:59:19Campbell takes the ball on his own five-yard line.
00:59:21He's dodging tacklers.
00:59:22Back to the 20.
00:59:23The 30.
00:59:24Up to the 40.
00:59:25And he's down on the 40-yard line.
00:59:27On a lethal tackle by Riffle.
00:59:29Here's the play.
00:59:30He'll take the ball.
00:59:31He's got to take the ball.
00:59:33He's got to take the ball.
00:59:34And he's got to.
00:59:35Oh, it's another ladder.
00:59:36He's got to tell you.
00:59:37Terry's losing for the touchdown.
00:59:39It's down.
00:59:41Time for the conversion now.
00:59:43Gary kicks.
00:59:44And it's good.
00:59:45And the score is good.
00:59:46By Green Trees picker, 14, Madison nothing.
00:59:49That's all they're cheering for.
01:00:18It's a half-time rest period, sir.
01:00:20The score is 27 to nothing in favor of a Green Trees gentleman.
01:00:24It's nothing to cheer about.
01:00:26This will break poor Martha's heart.
01:00:28It is indeed regrettable, sir.
01:00:29The school was all a poor child had left.
01:00:31Now she's lost that.
01:00:32The boys are returning to the locker room, saying,
01:00:34go follow me.
01:00:35Madison's fine game lane, but it looks as if the boys have picked a peck of trouble when
01:00:45they picked the pickers in the first game.
01:00:48Do I pay off?
01:00:49No.
01:00:51The game isn't over yet.
01:00:52Perhaps you'd like to make another bet that Madison won't score.
01:00:55You've already been paid for claims, so I thought you'd like to make a little extra money.
01:01:05So I'm going to give you a prize for every touchdown you let Madison make.
01:01:09You don't mind my saying this, do you?
01:01:11I'm listening.
01:01:11Well, I thought a thousand dollars a touchdown would be about right.
01:01:17Well, seeing if this ain't a regular game, miss,
01:01:19I guess we can afford to let your boys have their fun.
01:01:22At a thousand bucks for fun, I'll pass the word along to my boys.
01:01:26Oh, thank you, Mr. T. Kenton.
01:01:34I'm not blaming you, fellas.
01:01:35You did the best you could.
01:01:37It's my fault.
01:01:39Didn't give you the right plays.
01:01:41When you play the green trees, you don't need plays.
01:01:44You need a suit of armor.
01:01:45We have such a good reason for wanting to win this game.
01:01:50Sixth set with Fidelis.
01:01:51That means there's no use crying over a spilled milk.
01:01:56Three minutes.
01:01:57Oh, wait, fellas.
01:01:57Come on, now let's get out there and fight for Madison.
01:02:06Hey, my helmet!
01:02:07Hey!
01:02:08It's a good helmet, Mr. White.
01:02:11Henry, I can't go out there.
01:02:12Let's start the second half now.
01:02:14It's a miracle the way these 11 boys from Madison have stood up under this terrific pounding.
01:02:18There are no match for these thickers who still need 27 or nothing.
01:02:22Thickers are kicking off.
01:02:24There he moves up.
01:02:24Then he goes down to Bills.
01:02:26He takes it out.
01:02:27He's got a good line on it.
01:02:28He's got a good jacket.
01:02:30That's the 20, the 30.
01:02:32He's got a good deal now.
01:02:34He's in the open.
01:02:35Come on, keep going!
01:02:36Ed Anderson is going for a touchdown.
01:02:38A touchdown to Ed Anderson!
01:02:4025 yards for a touchdown!
01:02:43I'm trying to convert it now.
01:02:46It's no good!
01:02:48And the pitchers lead 37 to 6.
01:02:51Oh, hey me, Frank!
01:02:52Hey me!
01:02:53He said Madison couldn't stay on it.
01:02:55It was a blue tip, though.
01:02:56I have another thousand at the same odds that Madison can't repeat.
01:02:59Well, you take it, Mr. St.
01:03:01And how you do.
01:03:02It's my hundredth.
01:03:03Well, I'll have my thousand.
01:03:04It's a good shot.
01:03:08One of the 10-3 men on the team did his job perfectly, and it was a touchdown to Ed Anderson.
01:03:33The pitchers are kicking off again.
01:03:35Madison's all full of touchdown.
01:03:36Now, that long run by Ed has put new life in it.
01:03:39It's just the beginning, fellas.
01:03:40Come on, let's go!
01:03:42That's the easiest thousand bucks we ever heard.
01:03:44Let him score a couple more.
01:03:45I'll finish my dear baby.
01:03:46As long as the Madison game pays, let him score.
01:03:52There's Terry Steex.
01:03:53It's a high one hand.
01:03:55It's short!
01:03:56He's taking by Ed in the 20-35.
01:03:58He's up past the 35 before he has his sound on the 44-yard line.
01:04:02A nice run by this boy, Ed, who's really playing a great game.
01:04:06It's a long pass.
01:04:07Little Hazard competing back for a pass.
01:04:09It's a long run.
01:04:10He's going for a touchdown.
01:04:13Madison scored the touchdown.
01:04:15The team's going down.
01:04:16It's going down.
01:04:19He's fighting for the conversion now.
01:04:21And it's no.
01:04:23It's for three-three figures, 27, Madison, 12.
01:04:28And here at the end of the third quarter now, the pickers have tightened up since Madison scored those two quick touchdowns.
01:04:33But Madison's still fighting.
01:04:34They have the ball in their own territory.
01:04:36They come out of the huddle.
01:04:37Up to my ass.
01:04:38Winnie.
01:04:39What?
01:04:39Oh, the pass.
01:04:40And it takes him.
01:04:41He goes over the goal left side.
01:04:42Oh, what blocking hand?
01:04:44He's finally brought down after a gate of 20 yards.
01:04:47Here's the fight.
01:04:49It's a pass.
01:04:50A long run.
01:04:50And there comes a strong exchange.
01:04:52And Seattle has to take the ball away from the touchdown.
01:04:56And this score is again for Madison.
01:04:59Little tried to little eyes.
01:05:00No, I mean, little was tacklerized.
01:05:02I mean, I mean, well, who cares?
01:05:04Madison scored again.
01:05:05What they found in the conversion now, the pickers lead 27 to 18.
01:05:10Little in the fourth quarter and the score is still 27 to 18 with the pickers leading.
01:05:14What a battle these 11 iron men from Madison have put up.
01:05:17They've scored three times this half and the pickers haven't even been close.
01:05:20The runners are picking.
01:05:22I mean, the pickers are putting.
01:05:24And it takes the ball out of his 12-yard line.
01:05:26He likes to stop field back and field while blocking across the sideline.
01:05:29He's backfield on the 20.
01:05:31So 30 to 20.
01:05:32And he finally brought down by two of them on the 8-yard line.
01:05:35All right, fellas, 808.
01:05:38How about two square equals 3BC?
01:05:40No, no, let's wait.
01:05:41We have to use it.
01:05:41All right, come on.
01:05:42I don't know.
01:05:45I don't know.
01:05:45I don't know if I can find a buddy.
01:05:47It takes the ball.
01:05:48He's trying to do the line, but he's playing the game.
01:05:50No, it's a touchdown.
01:05:52Luke's kind of scary.
01:05:53He pulls out and is over for the touchdown.
01:05:55He's all confused.
01:05:56I'm all confused.
01:05:57Matt is surprised to convert the questions again.
01:05:59Store, figure 27, Madison 24.
01:06:04Yeah?
01:06:05No, positively no.
01:06:07After what I've seen today, I wouldn't bet even money.
01:06:09I was in my right mind.
01:06:10Well, it's time for a new shuffle.
01:06:13Well.
01:06:14What's the matter?
01:06:15You've won for a thousand.
01:06:16Yeah, but I need another thousand.
01:06:17Are you doing?
01:06:20No.
01:06:22You wouldn't have a thousand dollars, would you?
01:06:23What's up?
01:06:25You know darn well, I haven't seen a dime since I went to work for you.
01:06:28Oh, dear, I do.
01:06:30Rock, rock, rock!
01:06:31Rock, rock, rock!
01:06:33Yeah!
01:06:34Rock, rock, rock!
01:06:35Rock, rock, rock!
01:06:36Yeah!
01:06:36Hey!
01:06:38Hey!
01:06:38I figured I'd take him to find out the spot.
01:06:40Don't do it.
01:06:41One year muddle.
01:06:42All a huddle.
01:06:43Don't mind me, folks.
01:06:44It's just what games like this do to me.
01:07:00Rock, rock, rock!
01:07:01Rock, rock, rock!
01:07:02Green Green Green Green!
01:07:03All right, boys, let this game up.
01:07:30The fun's over.
01:07:33Henry, where's Mr. Dink?
01:07:36Oh, I, uh, I beslaze him to remain in the locker room.
01:07:39Oh, my God.
01:07:41Madison has the ball.
01:07:42Reverse.
01:07:43He's in the house.
01:07:44And he's in the house.
01:07:47Uh-oh.
01:07:47Somebody's hurt down here.
01:07:49It's Anders.
01:07:50Anders, who's played such a...
01:07:51I love him today.
01:07:52There are no substitutes for Anders and no substitutes for the real...
01:07:55Oh, pardon me, that's the wrong program.
01:07:57Only four more minutes of playing time.
01:07:59It looks like Bill's done for it.
01:08:01What do we do now?
01:08:02Oh.
01:08:03Well, can't you sort of...
01:08:04I mean, can't you let alone and get 10 men?
01:08:06Oh, sorry.
01:08:07There's a law against that.
01:08:08We'll either have to put in a substitute, or...
01:08:10or forfeit the game.
01:08:11Oh, dear.
01:08:13Well, I'll get mine.
01:08:14You know what to do with it.
01:08:16It will end it.
01:08:17Rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, Ponty.
01:08:19Mr. Mainon, give this a point of money.
01:08:21No, please.
01:08:23The carrying hand is off the field.
01:08:25Give him a big hand, Paul.
01:08:27He's played a great game today.
01:08:28The players are asking the referee for time out, but he refuses.
01:08:33He says it's up to them.
01:08:34They've got to pick up another man or fourth of the game.
01:08:37And only about three more minutes of playing time.
01:08:39Marlo!
01:08:41Marlo!
01:08:42You've been hurt.
01:08:44No, so what?
01:08:45Well, you've got to send him a substitute.
01:08:47Substitute?
01:08:50Substitute.
01:08:51You've been drinking.
01:08:53Oh, Marlo, don't you understand?
01:08:56If you can't play, they'll call the game off.
01:08:57And we'll lose the school.
01:08:59Okay, okay.
01:09:01I'll get you all the football players you want.
01:09:04Good play, Lester.
01:09:06Give me long distance.
01:09:07Oh, we haven't time to get another player.
01:09:09Somebody's got to take Bill's place now.
01:09:12Well, why didn't you say so?
01:09:13Why didn't you tell me that Bill was hurt?
01:09:16I'll show them that they can't do that to my pal Bill.
01:09:20I'll take his place.
01:09:22You will?
01:09:23You bet your life I will.
01:09:25Hit me, Adam.
01:09:26Wait a minute.
01:09:27You need a uniform.
01:09:28I'll get it.
01:09:29Give it.
01:09:30One more minute, Saul.
01:09:31I'll give you.
01:09:32The referee has been lenient.
01:09:33He hasn't penalized Madison for stalling.
01:09:35Anything seems to go in this game.
01:09:37But if Madison doesn't pick up a substitute soon,
01:09:39they'll forfeit the game to the pickers 27 to 24.
01:09:43And wait.
01:09:44There comes somebody.
01:09:45He's dressed like a football player, but he doesn't act like one.
01:09:48It's called Moose.
01:09:51Moose will replay them.
01:09:53Oh, good boy.
01:09:54And Madison have time with just one more play.
01:09:59I hear you're scared.
01:10:01Ha, ha, ha.
01:10:02I'm going to show you, girl.
01:10:12Let's go.

01:10:15Ha, ha.
01:10:16I'll carry a limb from three.
01:10:19I'll force you like a grape.
01:10:21Come on, George.
01:10:22We haven't had any time.
01:10:23Report to the referee.
01:10:24Okay.
01:10:24Hey.
01:10:26Just watch my pool.
01:10:28Ha, ha.
01:10:29I'll be carrying that potato right through you.
01:10:32Right through you.
01:10:34Come on.
01:10:36Now I'm there.
01:10:39Follow men's field on Boose.
01:10:4159 seconds, Boose.
01:10:43And I, I wouldn't care if it was 50 A's.
01:10:48Let's go.
01:10:51Only 30 seconds left, and Madison is in a huddle, fighting some trick play.
01:10:55Boys, this is where all two spares is equal to three B.C.
01:10:59Yeah.
01:11:02Isn't that that Mr. Boose's famous deception there?
01:11:05Yeah.
01:11:05We're out of it.
01:11:06To the light of scrimmage.
01:11:07One, two, three, four.
01:11:11One, two, three, four.
01:11:13They shift left.
01:11:13They shift right.
01:11:15Every man is shifting for himself.
01:11:17One, two, three, four.
01:11:19They're down.
01:11:20The big is a battle.
01:11:21The ball is snapped, and Madison goes into another huddle.
01:11:24It's a pass.
01:11:24And the passing coach Boose will be safe.
01:11:26Oh!
01:11:27And he lands on the clock fire with the greatest of ease.
01:11:30When the timekeeper's breaking his gun, the ball is still inside.
01:11:32If Boose falls forward, it's the touchdown.
01:11:35He's forward.
01:11:36He's back.
01:11:38Right forward.
01:11:40Right backward.
01:11:41Right forward.
