Disappearing Shops: What Shop do you Miss the Most?

With W.H. Smith disappearing from many high streets as it prepares to change itts name to TG Jones, which shop do you miss most from your local area?

00:00Butcher shops. In our town where I live, it was an old mining town.

00:07There used to be like seven butcher shops at the High Street. There was one then.

00:12Woolworths. Back in the day there was Woolworths. It was basically a general store.

00:16And they used to sell pick and mix sweets. That's the thing you miss the most.

00:19You used to be able to go along and get your pick and mix.

00:21And Easter eggs was another big thing for them. I remember every Easter you'd go there

00:25and they'd have stacks of eggs and they'd always be on offer.

00:27I think any of the old department stores that used to be in town were always good for us as kids growing up.

00:32So the local area would have been Beaties, Wolverhampton. But yeah, department stores, great.

00:39Oh, what would that be? Oh, Woolworths. I really miss Woolworths because it had everything.

00:46And it appealed to everybody. So it had a bit of everything, but it was also very accessible and not expensive and good quality.
