Liza Koshy chats with THR on the red carpet of 'The Naked Gun' premiere in NYC and dishes on her role as a detective. Plus, she reveals what it's like seeing Liam Neeson's comedic side while filming this movie.

00:28I mean, this is the most dramatic role I've ever been lucky to have.
00:33It's so dramatic. I'm so serious.
00:35Like, I played pure drama.
00:36I started playing the comedy, which you never play the comedy in a comedy,
00:39but I started being a little funny.
00:41And Akiva Schaefer, our director, came up to me and said,
00:43Hey, you're playing the comedy.
00:45And I was like, You're welcome.
00:46And he said, No, it's a drama. I need you to play a drama.
00:49I need you to be a real detective.
00:50And I said, Coming right up, got it.
00:52So all the comedy is in the background.
00:54All the comedy is in the deadpan, dry delivery.
00:56It's in the wordplay. It's in the puns.
00:57It's in the subtleties, which is why Liam Neeson and Pam Anderson are perfect for these roles,
01:03because they can dial down and dial up their devices.
01:07It's incredible to watch.
01:08Well, I was going to say, because I feel like everyone's used to seeing Liam in all these very stoic roles.
01:13What was it like seeing his comedic side?
01:15I know you say he plays it straight, but did we see a little bit of that behind the scenes?
01:19Ah, no. He's a hoot.
01:20He was pranking me with his assistant.
01:22Her name is Christine Torto.
01:23Puss up. Respect on it.
01:24She's hilarious, and he's hilarious.
01:27And at one point I thought they got into a fight, and he slammed her head into the wall.
01:30But no, she's just a stuntwoman on the side.
01:33It was a prank.
01:33Like, he's a silly little man.
01:35Big man.
01:36He's 6'4".
01:36But he gave so much drama.
01:39I'm so sorry.
01:40My nipper pad just put that there.
01:43Sign of the time.
01:44Now, I need to be naked.
01:45It's the naked gun.

01:48It's the naked gun for a reason.

01:55But, no, he's perfect for the role.
01:57And you've got to go do a deep dive on his sketches with Stephen Colbert, where he auditions
02:02to be the Easter Bunny.
02:03Like, that was his audition for naked gun.
02:05It's just stoic, subtle, reeled-in comedy.
02:10It's just brilliant.
02:11It's brilliant dry delivery.
02:12Well, I know that he filmed a save comedy PSA.
02:15Why do you think comedy is maybe struggling as a genre right now, and how are we bringing
02:20it back?
02:20I don't think it's struggling.
02:21I think it's desperately needed, and I think we're giving the people what they need by creating
02:25naked guns.
02:25So, I'm so thankful to Akiva Shafer, Doug Mand, Dan Greger, who wrote this together.
02:30They did Rescue Ranger Chippendales.
02:32They're brilliant writers.
02:33And they cooked up something that's going to have you in bit mode for, like, four hours
02:38after.
02:38You know when you hang with your funny-ass friend, and you're in, like, a bit mode after?
02:42Like, you call your mom right after, and you're starting to make the same jokes, and you're
02:44like, wait, that's not landing.
02:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:46You had to be there.
02:47There's a frequency in which comedy operates, and I'm excited for us as a collective to rise
02:51to that frequency and be, like, bigger guns at each other and being in a childlike state
02:55of wonder and play and, like, messing around with each other.
02:59It's a good time.
03:00Well, I know you play detective in the movie.
03:02When was the last time you played detective in real life?
03:06I need to know about these sleuthing skills.
03:07Girl, every day, any time a man hits on my friend, I'm finding out this man's name
03:13and Google image searching his face.
