A band of mainly light rain, but persistent in places, will continue to work its way eastwards, across Northern Ireland, Wales and western parts of England and Scotland. The rain across the west will start to break up by the afternoon however, turning more showery, allowing for Cumulonimbus clouds to develop, bringing some heavy downbursts and perhaps even thunder and lightning. In comparison, eastern parts should stay largely dry and bright for this period. Feeling pretty warm in any sunshine. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 29/07/2025. 00:00Good morning. We have mixed fortunes across the UK to start the day. There's some wet weather towards the west, but in the east it's a bit brighter and definitely drier for now, though the cloud in the west is going to filter in later.
00:12However, it's worth bearing in mind that some of this rain is not particularly heavy, but it's quite persistent in places, so many areas seeing around 5 to 10 millimetres of rain across parts of Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, and many places of Western England and across parts of Wales.
00:26Like I said, though, towards the east it's staying drier and a bit brighter for a little while yet.
00:31The rain across the west is going to break up. It's going to turn more showery, and within this we could get some relatively severe convection, so some big clouds developing, perhaps some cumulonimbus, some CB clouds, and we could see some rumbles of thunder and maybe some relatively intense rates of rain.
00:47We're talking 15 to 20 millimetres possible in just an hour or so across some parts of South East Wales and Central Southern England, maybe parts of the South West as well.
00:56Like I said, staying drier towards the east and particularly towards the northeast across eastern Northeastern Scotland, actually a pretty fine day for some areas.
01:04Orkney Shetland, the tip of Aberdeenshire, for example, actually having plenty of fine sunny weather.
01:09Where you do have the sunshine, it's going to be pretty warm, temperatures peaking in the low, possibly mid-20 Celsius, but not quite as warm as it was yesterday for most, especially because there's a fair bit of cloud around.
01:21So do watch out for that.
01:23As we go through the end of the day, the showery bursts will continue for a little while yet, and they're going to continue through the night for some places.
01:31They are still going to be quite hit and miss, and so not everywhere will see them.
01:34They're not going to last especially long, but the chance of some showery bursts is quite possible even through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
01:41Away from them, there will be some clear spells across far western parts and far eastern coastal areas, a drier, clearer picture here.
01:49But because there will be quite a bit of cloud for many of us, I'm not expecting temperatures to fall particularly low, generally holding it up in the mid-teen Celsius for most.
01:57And then through Wednesday, yes, there will still be some showery bursts.
02:02It's a bit of a messy day, really.
02:03Hard to pinpoint exactly where we're going to see these showery bursts developing, but perhaps a drier theme from the west will be more likely.
02:11So by the middle of the afternoon across eastern parts, that's where we're most likely to see any of those showery bursts further west.
02:18A greater chance of something a bit drier, a bit sunnier, particularly as we go towards the end of the day.
02:22Worth bearing in mind, though, there is some wetter weather waiting out in the west, and that's set to sweep in as we go through towards the end of the week.
02:29But with a bit more sunshine developing from the west, slightly warmer air, temperatures, if anything, tomorrow are going to be a little bit higher.
02:36So feeling a little bit warmer, more widely in the low to mid-20s Celsius.
02:40Then as we go towards the end of the week, there is more changeable weather to come.
02:44Quite a few showery bursts, could even be some thunder, particularly towards southern parts on Thursday.
02:49So do watch out for that. But I'll be back later with more of an update. See you soon.
