04:14That was Juan Soto breaking a tie by scoring in the top of the eighth
04:32as the Mets ended the Reds' four-game win streak with a 3-2 victory.
04:35Here's something not going so great for the Mets right now, though.
04:38Francisco Lindor is 0 for his last 21.
04:41The Mariners came into Sunday on a five-game winning streak
04:43and within three games of the Astros,
04:45the closest they've been to first place since June 11th.
04:48But those Astros got themselves some breathing room Sunday with an 11-3 win.
04:52And you know, it's not going to get any easier for the Mariners after that.
04:55They now got to play those Brewers, the aforementioned hottest team in baseball.
04:59Gavin Williams, no, not that one, the one that starts for Cleveland,
05:02struck out 11 as the Guardians beat the A's 8-2, winning their series.
05:06Hey, let's do a little AL Central Roundup while we're here.
05:08The Royals salvaged the third game of their series against the Marlins with a 7-4 win,
05:13ending the Fishes' four-game win streak.
05:15The Twins avoided being the first team the Rockies would have swept since May 2024
05:19with a 7-1 win.
05:21And alert!
05:22Alert!
05:23The White Sox just swept the series!
05:24They smoked the Pirates 7-2 on Sunday,
05:27winning all three games in Pittsburgh by a combined score of 27-7.
05:31Ugh, that's just demoralizing.
05:33Kyle Schwarber finally didn't homer.
05:35He had actually homered in every game since winning that All-Star Game tiebreaker last week.
05:39But Lamont Wade Jr., who came in when Nolan Shandwell was hit with a pitch,
05:42well, he sure did as the Angels won their series over the Phillies with an 8-2 victory.
05:47The Angels are back within one game of 500.
05:49You know, it's a pretty chill day when your team scores five runs in the first inning.
05:53It makes the next eight innings feel like a nap on the beach.
05:56That's what the Padres did Sunday, thanks to a first-inning grand slam from Xander Bogarts
05:59as they beat McKenzie Gore and the Nationals 8-1.
06:03The Cardinals came into the weekend uncertain whether they would be buyers or sellers at the deadline.
06:09Well, this might help clarify their thinking.
06:12There goes another one!
06:14Guido!
06:14It's Gino!
06:17And it's in the bullpen and bounces in!
06:19His second consecutive multi-home-run game.
06:21Eugenio Suarez!
06:22That's what that was!
06:23Him hitting his 34th and 35th homers, giving him the National League lead,
06:27and helping the Diamondbacks beat the Cardinals 5-3.
06:29Finishing off a three-game sweep in which the Redbirds were outscored 22-7.
06:33The Cardinals have lost 11 of the last 15 and have the worst starting pitcher ERA in baseball for the month of July.
06:39So, sellers, I guess.
06:41Ryan O'Hearn, Jackson Holliday, and Alex Jackson all homered as the Orioles ended their four-game losing streak
06:46with a 5-3 win over the Rays.
06:49And to close the whip around, the Tigers' six-game losing streak hit the over!
06:53Derek Scooble struck out 11-6 and two-thirds, but Tyler Holton vultured his win as the Tigers beat the Rangers 2-1.
07:03There aren't many people in this world that I am personally a bigger fan of than John Oliver.
07:08So I delighted in he and his show's christening of the Eerie Moon Mammoths this weekend,
07:12the temporary, sadly, name of the Tigers' AA affiliate.
07:15Oliver threw out the first pitch and talked about the glory of minor league baseball.
07:19I love minor league baseball, and it felt like a nice fit with our show,
07:23because minor league baseball, as you know, is willing to try anything.
07:29That was proven by the fact that over half the league was willing to sight unseen rebrand
07:33and put their trust in the hands of a group of people who are objectively untrustworthy.
07:37That's a bad decision, and it's that kind of bad decision-making that I love about minor league baseball.
07:41That's all for today's Morning Lineup podcast.
07:44Thank you for listening.
07:45Please be sure to give us a rating and a view and tell everyone you know about this podcast.
07:49Anthony Kastrovitz, who was actually in Eerie, hanging out with John Oliver over the weekend,
07:54will be with you on Tuesday.
07:55I will return on Friday.
07:57Sam's any talk show host, sadly.
08:00See you then!
