00:00It is a sobering reality, one that we must confront with both clarity and courage.
00:06The greatest threat to Christianity today is not coming from outside the church.
00:11It is coming from within.
00:13It is not the voice of the skeptic, the atheist, or the secularist that is doing the most harm to the gospel.
00:21It is the compromised pulpit, the shallow theology, the manse,
00:25entered message preached every Sunday in buildings that dare to call themselves churches.
00:31The modern church has been seduced by the applause of men.
00:36It has traded conviction for comfort, truth for tolerance, and doctrine for entertainment,
00:42and in doing so it has become a threat, not to culture, but to the very faith it claims to uphold.
00:49Today, I want to call us back, back to a biblical church, back to a biblical gospel, back to the word of God,
01:13because a church that no longer proclaims truth ceases to be a church, it becomes an enemy of the cross.
01:201. Compromise weakens the gospel, one of the most alarming trends in the church today,
01:27is the subtle erosion of biblical truth in the name of love, unity, and cultural relevance.
01:33The temptation to soften hard truths for the sake of broader appeal has led to a gospel message
01:40that is hardly recognizable compared to the one proclaimed by Christ and the apostles,
01:46and let us be clear, a diluted gospel is a destroyed gospel.
01:51We are not at liberty to edit the word of God.
01:55Paul declared to the elders in Ephesus,
01:57I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.
02:03Acts 20.27
02:05Yet in many pulpits today, pastors skip difficult passages,
02:11sidestep controversial doctrines, and emphasize self-improvement over self, denial.
02:18The cross is minimized, sin is redefined, and repentance is rarely mentioned, if at all.
02:24The goal has shifted from glorifying God to keeping people comfortable.
02:30But make no mistake, the gospel is meant to confront.
02:35It exposes our depravity, demands our repentance, and centers solely on the person and work of Jesus Christ.
02:43When the church compromises, it ceases to challenge the sinner and instead entertains him.
02:49It lures people in with a false peace, offering them a Jesus who requires nothing and affirms everything.
02:57This is not the gospel that saves.
03:00It is a placebo, a powerless substitute that offers comfort without conviction and hope without holiness.
03:08The message of the cross will always be offensive to the flesh,
03:12but it is also the only message that can reconcile man to God.
03:18We do not serve the culture, we serve Christ, and he does not adjust his standards for the times.
03:26The gospel does not evolve.
03:28Truth does not bend.
03:30The church's task is not to be liked, but to be faithful.
03:35To compromise is to betray the very one who said,
03:38Sanctify them in the truth.
03:40Your word is truth.
03:42John 17.17
03:44The world needs true, raw, unfiltered, divine truth, and only a church that refuses to compromise can deliver it.
03:53Anything less is not ministry.
03:56It is malpractice.
03:57Two.
03:58Entertainment has replaced exposition if you walk into many churches today.
04:04You will not find men of God proclaiming the word with fear and trembling.
04:09You will find performers, motivational speakers, entertainers.
04:14The pulpit has become a stage and worship a production.
04:18The exposition of scripture, the faithful verse, by verse preaching of the whole counsel of God,
04:26has been replaced with lights, fog machines, and twenty.
04:31Minitidi talks with a Bible verse sprinkled in for good measure.
04:35This is not church.
04:38This is spiritual theater.
04:40What we are witnessing is a tragic shift from reverence to relevance.
04:46In the pursuit of growing audiences and appealing to the next generation,
04:51churches have reduced preaching to storytelling and discipleship to branding.
04:57They've redefined success in terms of how many people are in the seats
05:01rather than how many lives are being sanctified in the truth.
05:05But biblical preaching is not optional.
05:08It is foundational.
05:10Paul charged Timothy to preach the word,
05:13Be ready in season and out of season,
05:16Reprove, rebuke, and exhort.
05:19To Timothy 4.2
05:21That mandate has not changed.
05:24The church is not called to amuse the world,
05:27but to confront it with truth.
05:29Entertainment may fill buildings,
05:32but it does not fill hearts with the fear of God.
05:36It cannot convict the soul.
05:38It cannot produce repentance.
05:41And it most certainly cannot prepare people for eternity.
05:44Only the word of God,
05:47clearly taught,
05:48boldly proclaimed,
05:49and faithfully exposited,
05:51can do that.
05:52Furthermore,
05:53when churches entertain instead of edify,
05:56they train their people to be consumers rather than disciples.
06:00People attend for what they can get rather than what they can give.
06:05Worship becomes about emotional highs rather than humble hearts.
06:10Church becomes a show rather than a sanctuary.
06:12What the church needs today is not more creativity.
06:17It needs more conviction.
06:19We need men who tremble before the word of God,
06:22who open the Bible,
06:24explain what it says,
06:26apply it to life,
06:28and point people to the glory of Christ.
06:31That is how the church grows in strength,
06:34not in numbers.
06:35God does not bless spiritual gimmicks.
06:39He blesses faithfulness.
06:40And if the church hopes to be salt and light in a decaying and dark world,
06:46it must return to the faithful exposition of scripture.
06:50No fog machine can replace the fire of the Holy Spirit
06:54that comes through the power of the word.
06:57False teachers are not outside the church,
07:01but within the greatest threat to the church today is not secularism.
07:06It is not atheism.
07:08It is not even persecution.
07:11It is false teachers who stand in pulpits,
07:14hold Bibles in their hands,
07:15wear suits,
07:16and smile while distorting the truth.
07:19The danger is not just outside the church.
07:22It is within her walls.
07:23Jesus himself warned of this.
07:26Beware of false prophets
07:28who come to you in sheep's clothing,
07:30but inwardly are ravenous wolves
07:33of Matthew 7, 15.
07:35Paul said that from among the very elders of the church,
07:39men would rise up speaking twisted things
07:42to draw away disciples after them.
07:45Acts 20, 30.
07:47Yet in our day,
07:49many in the church are asleep to this danger.
07:52In the name of grace and unity,
07:55discernment has been dismissed as divisive.
07:58These false teachers often preach a gospel of self,
08:02self, love, self, worth, self-empowerment,
08:06rather than the gospel of Christ.
08:09They minimize sin, reject judgment,
08:12and distort grace into license.
08:14They preach health and wealth,
08:16but not holiness and repentance.
08:18And the tragedy is that many believers,
08:21untrained in doctrine and undiscerning in spirit,
08:25are led astray.
08:26This is not new.
08:28From the earliest days of the church,
08:30Satan has sought to infiltrate,
08:32not just oppose.
08:34He plants tares among the wheat,
08:36false teachers among the true,
08:38counterfeit gospels among the real.
08:41And they sound spiritual.
08:42They sound kind.
08:44They even quote scripture out of context,
08:46The responsibility of every pastor,
08:50every elder,
08:51and every believer
08:52is to test the spirits,
08:54to examine every teaching by the word of God.
08:57Truth matters.
08:58Doctrine matters.
08:59Theology is not optional.
09:01It is essential,
09:02because error about God
09:04is not just intellectual.
09:06It is spiritual poison.
09:08If the church does not confront false teachers,
09:11it becomes complicit in their deception.
09:13If we tolerate heresy in the name of love,
09:16we are no longer walking in truth.
09:18We are called to expose darkness,
09:20not entertain it,
09:21to refute error,
09:22not to embrace it under the guise of open-mindedness.
09:26A true church does not tolerate falsehood in the pulpit.
09:30It guards the gospel with its life,
09:32and it teaches its people to recognize wolves,
09:35not follow them.
09:364. A church without holiness is not a church the word of God says.
09:41Without holiness no one will see the Lord.
09:44Hebrews 12.14
09:45Yet how many churches today speak of holiness at all?
09:50In many pulpits,
09:51the pursuit of holiness has been replaced by the pursuit of happiness.
09:56The call to sanctification has been overshadowed by the desire for affirmation.
10:01But a church that does not reflect the holiness of God is not a church at all.
10:07God is holy.
10:08His church must be holy.
10:10That has not changed.
10:11In 1 Peter 1.16
10:13we are commanded,
10:15Be holy, for I am holy.
10:17This is not a suggestion.
10:19It is the divine standard for all who bear the name of Christ.
10:23Yet, tragically, many churches have removed that standard altogether.
10:28Today, sin is rebranded as struggle.
10:31Judgment is called legalism.
10:34Repentance is optional.
10:36And holiness is labeled outdated.
10:38Churches boast of being inclusive,
10:41while tolerating unrepentant immorality.
10:44But let us be clear,
10:45there is no love in affirming sin.
10:48Love speaks the truth.
10:49Love calls to repentance.
10:51Love seeks holiness.
10:53When churches tolerate sin to keep seats filled,
10:56they exchange purity for popularity.
10:58And they grieve the Holy Spirit in the process.
11:02Revival will never come to a church that winks at sin.
11:05Holiness is not about rules.
11:08It's about transformation.
11:10It's the fruit of a heart that has been regenerated by the Spirit of God.
11:14It is the evidence of true salvation.
11:17It is the power of the gospel at work.
11:19The church's role is not to lower the standard,
11:22but to lift it up and urge people to live worthy of their calling.
11:27God does not bless unholy churches.
11:30He judges them.
11:31Read Revelation.
11:33Christ warns churches that tolerate immorality and abandon His word.
11:37He calls them to repent or face removal.
11:41That warning is still in effect today.
11:44The true church will never be perfect,
11:46but it must be pure in its pursuit of holiness.
11:50It must preach against sin.
11:52It must call for repentance.
11:55And it must model what it means to be set apart in a dark world.
12:00A holy church is a powerful church.
12:03A worldly church is a useless one.
12:06True Christianity stands on the word alone
12:10at the center of all that is right in the church.
12:14And all that is wrong when it goes astray is this question.
12:19What is your final authority?
12:21The true church, the faithful church,
12:24the Christ-honoring church stands firmly and unapologetically
12:28on the authority of Scripture alone.
12:31Sola Scripturus, Scripture alone,
12:33is not just a reformation slogan.
12:37It is the lifeblood of authentic Christianity.
12:40In contrast, many churches today have replaced the word of God
12:44with the word of man.
12:46Psychology, pragmatism, personal experience,
12:50and cultural trends now guide sermons more than the Bible.
12:55But let me be clear.
12:57Christianity divorced from the word is not Christianity at all.
13:01Jesus said,
13:02Man shall not live by bread alone,
13:05but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
13:08Matthew 4, 4.
13:10The word is our sustenance, our authority,
13:13our light in the darkness.
13:15It is inspired, inerrant, sufficient, and unchanging.
13:19When the church forsakes the word,
13:21it forsakes its identity.
13:23It may grow in numbers, but it dies in truth.
13:27It may look alive, but it is spiritually dead.
13:30The power of the Spirit works through the word,
13:33not apart from it.
13:35And any church that does not open, read, preach,
13:39and obey the word of God is not a church.
13:42It's a club.
13:44True Christians submit to Scripture.
13:46They don't sit above it in judgment.
13:49They don't twist it to fit their preferences.
13:52They are shaped, corrected, rebuked, and encouraged by it.
13:56The world is changing fast.
13:59Culture is shifting.
14:00Morality is crumbling.
14:02But the word of God stands forever, Isaiah 40, 8.
14:06And the church must stand with it, no matter the cost.
14:10If a church is to be faithful,
14:12it must preach the word, build on the word,
14:14defend the word, and obey the word.
14:17Anything else is sand, not rock.
14:19And only the house built on the rock will withstand the coming storm.
