00:00Brothers and sisters, we are living in an hour where danger does not merely lurk outside the
00:06walls of the church, it stands boldly within them. The enemy isn't always dressed in rebellion or
00:13atheism. Sometimes it wears a robe, quotes scripture, sings worship songs, and gathers on
00:21Sundays. When the church strays from the authority of God's word, it ceases to be a beacon of light
00:28and instead becomes a counterfeit refuge, dangerous, deceiving, and ultimately damning.
00:35This is not a message about skeptics or secularists. It's a warning about churches that claim the name
00:41of Christ while undermining everything he taught. These churches may still call themselves Christian,
00:47but their teachings, their practices, and their priorities betray a heart far from God.
00:54The title of this message may sound shocking when the church becomes a threat to Christianity,
01:01but tragically, that's not an exaggeration. It's a sobering reality we must confront with truth
01:09and urgency. If the church loses its saltiness, if it no longer proclaims the gospel, no longer exalts
01:18Christ, and no longer stands on scripture, then it is not merely failing. It is actively harming the cause of
01:27Christ.
01:28Keynote 1. Compromise with culture destroys the gospel message I remember a time when churches were the moral
01:35compass of their communities. The word of God was preached boldly, sin was confronted directly, and repentance
01:42was not a suggestion, it was the starting point of faith. But something changed. Slowly, subtly, churches
01:49began to ask, how can we appeal to the world, instead of how can we remain faithful to Christ?
01:56I once visited a church where the pastor proudly announced the removal of all references to sin
02:03and judgment from their sermons. We're here to uplift, he said. The room applauded, but I wept,
02:11because what had just taken place wasn't a rebranding, it was a betrayal. A gospel without
02:17repentance is no gospel at all. When the church mirrors the world, it loses its voice. And once the
02:25truth is silenced, what remains is just religious entertainment. The pulpit becomes a stage, the Bible
02:31becomes a prop, and Christ becomes a mascot for moralism, rather than the Lord of all creation.
02:38This isn't just a modern phenomenon. In Revelation 2, Jesus warned the church at Pergaum for tolerating
02:45compromise. They lived where Satan's throne was, and yet instead of standing firm, they allowed worldly
02:52influence to creep in. Sound familiar? Brothers and sisters, the gospel is offensive because it tells man
03:00he is a sinner. But it is also liberating because it tells him Christ is the Savior. If we remove the
03:07offense to make the message more palatable, we remove the power to save. When the church cares more about
03:14cultural approval than divine approval, it trades eternal impact for temporary applause. And in doing so,
03:22it becomes a threat to true Christianity because it offers a Christless gospel that leads nowhere but ruin.
03:28Keynote 2. False teachers within the church are more dangerous than enemies outside years ago. I counseled
03:37a young man who had left the church, not because he rejected Christ, but because the version of Christ
03:45he'd been taught was a lie. I didn't lose faith in Jesus. He said, I lost faith in the church that
03:54misrepresented him. He grew up under a pastor who preached prosperity, self-empowerment, and human
04:02potential, but never the cross, never sin, never grace. This, beloved, is the danger that lurks not
04:11outside the church, but within it. The Apostle Paul warned in Acts 20, 29-30,
04:19after my departure, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. And from among your own
04:26selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after them. Notice from
04:34among your own selves. These are not outsiders attacking the faith. They are insiders corrupting
04:42it. False teachers don't always look like wolves. They often look like shepherds. They smile. They
04:49speak with charisma. They quote scripture, but they twist it to serve their agenda. And because they
04:56wear the name of pastor or bishop, many sheep follow them blindly. Jude warned of such men who creep in
05:05unnoticed. That's the frighten. In part, they're not immediately obvious. They blend in. They use
05:12familiar language, but their hearts are not aligned with the gospel. Their doctrines lead people away
05:18from the truth. I once attended a conference where a speaker claimed that hell was simply a metaphor
05:25and that all people, regardless of faith, would eventually be reconciled to God. The crowd cheered,
05:32but I sat there grieving because a lie dressed in love is still a lie and it leads souls to eternal
05:39destruction. The most dangerous threat to Christianity isn't persecution, its perversion,
05:45not from without, but from within. The church becomes a threat to Christianity when it no longer
05:52guards its doctrine, when it no longer tests its teachers, and when it elevates charisma over
05:59character. Truth matters. Doctrine matters. Because eternity is at stake. Keynote 3. Church growth at
06:09the cost of biblical truth is a fatal trade several years ago. I was invited to speak at a large,
06:17rapidly growing church. The sanctuary was impressive, the media production was flawless, and the parking lot
06:24looked like a stadium on game day. But as I listened to the pastor deliver his message, I felt a deep
06:31sorrow. He spoke for forty minutes without ever opening the Bible. He talked about overcoming
06:37challenges, finding your inner strength, building confidence, and yet, the name of Jesus was barely
06:44whispered. There was no call to repentance, no explanation of the cross, no mention of sin. The entire message
06:53could have been aired on a TD talk stage, and no one would have noticed the difference.
06:59Afterward, I spoke privately with one of the leaders. I asked, why not preach the word? He said,
07:06we've found that direct scripture teaching makes people uncomfortable. We want to grow first, we'll disciple
07:13later. But friends, church growth without gospel depth is not growth, it's swelling. A tumor swells,
07:21a healthy body grows, there's a difference. 2 Timothy 4. 3 warns us that the time will come when they
07:28will not endure sound doctrine. But according to their own desires, they will heap up for themselves
07:34teachers. That time is now. And some churches are helping them heap. When numbers become the measure
07:41of success, truth becomes negotiable. Churches start asking, what will bring people in? Instead of,
07:50what has God called us to preach? They begin editing the gospel like a PR team, removing what offends
07:58and polishing what appeals. But a gospel that doesn't offend the sinner cannot save the sinner.
08:06And a church that fears losing people more than it fears dishonoring Christ is no longer a church,
08:13it's a business with religious branding. We must remember, the goal is not crowds, it's conversions.
08:21Not applause, but allegiance. The church that seeks to gain the world but loses the word becomes a threat
08:28to the very Christianity it claims to represent. Keynote 4. A Christless Christianity is no Christianity
08:35at all. I once spoke with a woman who attended a trendy, high-profile church. She described how their
08:42services were uplifting and motivational, filled with music, positive messages, and laughter.
08:51Curious, I asked, what have you learned about Christ since attending? She paused. Then said,
08:59Well, not much. We mostly focus on life improvement. That response pierced my heart, because any
09:07Christianity that does not exalt Christ is counterfeit. In Colossians 1, 18, Paul declares that
09:15Christ must have the preeminence in all things. Not a passing mention, not a supporting role. He is the
09:22central figure of redemption, the head of the church, the Lamb of God, and the only name under heaven
09:29by which men are saved. And yet today, in many churches, Christ is being edited out gently, subtly.
09:37Sermons shift from the cross to confidence, from holiness to happiness, from repentance to relevance.
09:45The person of Christ is replaced by the concept of spirituality. His commands are replaced by personal
09:53affirmations. His sacrifice is replaced by slogans of self, worth, but a bloodless gospel is a powerless
10:00gospel, and a Christless pulp. It is a treacherous place. There is a reason Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2,
10:082, I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
10:14That was the heartbeat of the early church Christ crucified, Christ risen, Christ returning. Anything
10:20less is spiritual deception. I remember one church billboard that read,
10:24Come experience joy, purpose, and community, but it never mentioned Jesus.
10:29Not once. Imagine advertising Christianity without Christ. It's like offering a feast without food you
10:36may gather a crowd, but you leave them starving. When the church turns Jesus into a mascot for its own
10:43brand of therapeutic religion, it becomes a threat not just to doctrine, but to souls.
10:49Because only Christ saves, only Christ transforms, only Christ is Lord, let the world have its
10:57inspiration, let the motivational speakers fill the arenas, but the church must preach Christ boldly,
11:04clearly, and constantly. If not, it ceases to be Christian at all.
11:09Keynote 5. The true church must be anchored in scripture alone when I was a young believer.
11:16I attended a small Bible study where the leader would begin every session the same way.
11:23He'd say, let's open our Bibles, because without it, we have nothing to say. That sentence has stayed
11:30with me for decades because it's true. Without the authority of scripture, the church is just another
11:37voice in a noisy world. But today, many churches are replacing scripture with sentiment. They no longer
11:44say, the Bible says. Instead, they say, I feel like God is saying. They quote influencers more than
11:52prophets. They hold up books on success and self-help, but the word of God lies unopened on the podium.
12:00This drift is not new. In Jeremiah 23, God condemned the prophets who claimed to speak for him when he had
12:10not sent them. They speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the Lord V. 16. The result,
12:19a people misled, a truth forgotten, a nation in rebellion. The same danger faces us now. When the
12:28church detaches itself from scripture, it loses its compass. It no longer knows what sin is, what truth
12:36is, or even what salvation is. It becomes a ship adrift pretty on the surface, but heading for destruction.
12:45I once visited a modern church that projected quotes from pop psychology books on the screen, but not a single
12:53verse from the Bible. When asked why, a staff member said, we want to avoid being too heavy with
12:59scripture. People come here to feel good. But scripture isn't meant to make us feel good. It's
13:05meant to make us holy. To Timothy 3, 16 says that all scripture is God, breathed and profitable for
13:14teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. Without it, we are not corrected.
13:22Without it, we are not trained. Without it, we are not the church. The true church is not built on
13:29trends. It is not shaped by culture. It is anchored in the unchanging, inerrant word of God. If we abandon
13:38that, we don't just weaken Christianity, we threaten to erase it from our pulpits altogether.
