00:00You chose to slap me down and let everybody know who's boss.
00:04Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're looking at the characters who lost our sympathies
00:08through constant bad choices and behaviour.
00:11Since we'll be discussing key plot points, watch out for spoilers.
00:14Oh, that's so great!
00:16Ooh, not for Bonnie.
00:18But for you, yay!
00:22Number 10, Mindy Lahiri, The Mindy Project.
00:25Living in a rom-com sounds wonderful.
00:27Being the main character of your own story, surrounded by quirky characters and cute
00:30love interests, what's not to love?
00:33No, Mindy.
00:34It's me, Alex.
00:37I lost my virginity to you.
00:42Whoa.
00:43But that's not how real life works, something Mindy never bothers to realise.
00:47Although introduced as a starry-eyed OB-GYN navigating love and career, Mindy's self-centredness
00:53overshadows all her charm.
00:54From constantly flaking out on her friends and her ambitions, to clinging to her toxic
00:59romance with the equally controlling Danny Castellano, Mindy is her own worst enemy.
01:04I think you're right, we should call it off.
01:06Wait, wait, what?
01:08No, no, Danny.
01:10Danny, no, that was a false ultimatum.
01:12I read in a magazine, that's how you get a guy to...
01:14No, no, I take it back.
01:15I take it back.
01:15I don't want to stop it.
01:17She makes her own choices yet can't live with them, creating a trail of unnecessary drama
01:21around her.
01:22It takes it years of heartbreak before Mindy finally turns things around, but by then,
01:26we're all out of excuses.
01:29I was going to say that.
01:31I never stop loving you and I don't think I ever will.
01:34Number 9, Spike, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
01:44Despite his sadistic streak and massive kill count, Spike's charisma and complexity endeared
02:07him to fans.
02:08However, his dangerous dynamic with Buffy reaches a breaking point in the sixth season.
02:12Fuelled by his dark obsession, Spike's aggressive advances towards Buffy cross into deeply disturbing
02:17territory.
02:18Ask me again why I could never love you.
02:23Buffy, my God, I didn't...
02:24Because I stopped you.
02:29Something I should have done a long time ago.
02:32According to James Masters, the scene was designed to show the character at his worst,
02:36forcing audiences to see just how far he could fall.
02:39Suffice it to say, it worked, as Spike's lovable bad boy image was shattered, exposing the fiend
02:45within.
02:46And although Spike does redeem himself, fans could never fully trust him again.
02:51The scene affected Masters as well, who called it the darkest professional day of my life.
02:56It's a problematic scene for a lot of people who like the show.
02:59And it's the darkest professional day of my life.
03:02Number 8, Debra Morgan, Dexter.
03:06Burdened by paternal neglect, Debra makes some truly questionable romantic choices,
03:11like dating the ice truck killer and an FBI agent old enough to be her dad, among others.
03:16Mind if I tag along?
03:19To the interview?
03:20I'd like to see Detective Morgan in all her glory.
03:24Sounds like someone's bored with retirement already.
03:27But while we empathise with her abandonment issues, there's really no defending her when
03:32she falls in love with Dexter.
03:34You know, her adoptive brother.
03:38Right here.
03:43Influenced by some questionable advice from her psychiatrist,
03:46Debra convinces herself that Dexter is the one that she's meant to be with.
03:49In a show about serial killers, it was this incredibly uncomfortable twist
03:53where fans finally drew the line, eliminating much of their sympathy for Debra.
03:57The angle was dropped as inexplicably as it began,
04:01but the trust between the audience and Debra was irreparably broken.
04:05If I love you, if I love you, I went to the church that night
04:08that you killed Travis Marshall to tell you that I'm in love with you.
04:11You're in love with me?
04:24Number 7.
04:25John J.D. Dorian.
04:27Scrubs.
04:28Maybe it's true that I'm someone who only wants what he can't have.
04:31But what if the thing I want is the girl I'm supposed to end up with?
04:34At first, J.D. seems like the most harmless doctor at Sacred Heart.
04:37But over time, he goes from a naive idealist to an over-the-top man-child,
04:42expecting to be babied by Turk and Carla while toying around with Elliot's emotions.
04:47I don't love you.
04:50What?
04:53Please don't cry.
04:55Oh, I won't.
05:00For someone who fancies himself as the moral center of the show,
05:03J.D.'s contempt for his brother and constant need for validation from Cox
05:07are strikingly hypocritical.
05:09This is a teaching hospital.
05:11You have to teach.
05:12I know.
05:12I'm just, I'm, I'm so tired of their attitude and I'm tired of their ignorance.
05:18It's the same thing year after year.
05:20I'm just tired.
05:23Although he seems unlucky in love,
05:25his sketchy romantic history tells a different story,
05:27from hooking up with his mentor's ex and kissing his best friend's wife,
05:30to sabotaging most of Elliot's relationships.
05:32And while J.D.'s various quirks and fantasies keep us entertained,
05:37it's hard to overlook his most glaring flaws.
05:40Oh, Dr. Cox, have you made a...
05:41You don't have to introduce me to my ex-wife.
05:46Oh!
05:47You putz.
05:50Number six, Doug Heffernan, the King of Queens.
05:54What do you think I should do?
05:55Should I, should I tell him?
05:57Well, he is your friend.
05:59And his wife is making a jerk out of him.
06:01I don't know what I should tell him.
06:02It's just so personal, you know?
06:04Up until now, our relationship has been so simple.
06:06You know, we watch the games, we drink beers, we eat chips,
06:09we never share a deep feeling or thought.
06:12I don't want to lose that.
06:15Doug's easygoing and goofy attitude has its moments,
06:18but it can wear extremely thin.
06:20At times, watching him continually skirt responsibilities,
06:23dump his wife with household duties,
06:25and treat life like a playground is downright infuriating.
06:29Originally a minor character trait,
06:31Doug's immaturity ends up becoming his whole personality,
06:34as every episode centers around his latest antics
06:36and childish escapades.
06:38Ah!
06:40What did you do?
06:40I thought you were like, it's me!
06:43Thomas, I thought you were at that seminar with Carrie.
06:46Something came up.
06:47Listen, I'm going to jump in the shower.
06:49When Carrie comes in, pretend you never saw me,
06:52and you definitely never saw this.
06:54While the show portrays him as a lovable everyman,
06:57we think he's way overdue to start acting his age.
06:59Characters like Doug were common back when the show aired,
07:02but today, his refusal to grow up
07:04just makes him appear selfish and irresponsible.
07:06We had to open that look-out.
07:14You gotta check out the contents.
07:15Number 5, Barney Stinson.
07:19How I Met Your Mother.
07:20Oh, you're dangerous, Maverick.
07:22Your ego's writing checks your body can't cash.
07:25Easily, the show's breakout character,
07:27Barney's charisma, sharp suits,
07:29and numerous catchphrases made him a worldwide sensation.
07:32But as the series has aged, so has the fan perception around him.
07:36While his behaviour is framed as flawed character development,
07:39Barney's shallow view of women and manipulative schemes
07:41are impossible to ignore.
07:43Wow.
07:44Thanks for explaining that.
07:45I get so confused.
07:47That's because you're a woman.
07:48I don't even know why we're laughing.
07:54Of course you don't.
07:55With documenting a list of his conquests,
07:57writing a playbook on how to lie and deceive women,
07:59or pushing his friends to embrace their darkest desires,
08:02Barney is like the devil on your shoulder.
08:05Ooh, Ted, pee off the roof.
08:07Whoa, I wouldn't do that if I were you.
08:08There's people walking down there.
08:10Come on, Ted.
08:11Who are you going to listen to?
08:12Me or Mr. Goody Goody?
08:14Sure, he turns over a new leaf by the show's end,
08:17but that doesn't make up for years of predatory antics
08:20that were anything but legendary,
08:22no matter how much he claims it.
08:24True story.
08:26Nothing suits me like a suit!
08:29Number four, Skylar White, Breaking Bad.
08:32I see.
08:33Now I'm supposed to go Hank.
08:35Please, what can I possibly do
08:37to further benefit my spoiled, kleptomaniac bitch sister
08:41who somehow always manages to be the centre of attention?
08:44Because God knows she's the one
08:47with the really important problems.
08:51Whether you love or hate Walt's descent into villainy,
08:53one thing unites the fandom,
08:55their hatred for Skylar.
08:57Introduced as a concerned wife,
08:59Skylar gradually reveals herself
09:00to be a nagging, unsupportive partner
09:03and the bane of Walt's existence.
09:05Hey, everybody, Walt suddenly decided
09:08to invest in laser tag, just out of the blue.
09:12Really?
09:13That's what we're supposed to tell people,
09:15our family, our friends, the government?
09:18Despite claiming the moral high ground,
09:20Skylar remains actively involved
09:22in Walt's illegal activities.
09:23Even those initially on her side
09:25eventually shed their support,
09:27as things like her affair,
09:28deliberate turning of a blind eye to violence
09:30and putting her family at risk
09:31just can't be excused.
09:33More than anything, though,
09:34it's her annoying, self-righteous attitude
09:36that destroys any chance
09:38of winning back our favour.
09:40All I can do is wait.
09:43That's it.
09:44That's the only good option.
09:45Hold on.
09:47Bide my time.
09:49And wait.
09:52Wait for what?
09:54What are you waiting for?
09:57For the cancer to come back.
09:59For most of the series,
10:17Daenerys stands as a symbol of hope and justice,
10:20evolving into a queen and the mother of dragons.
10:22But it was all too good to be true,
10:24as the final season strips all of the goodwill
10:27the former heroine had earned.
10:29Consumed with power and blind vengeance,
10:32Daenerys leaves King's Landing in ruin,
10:34ending her arc in a blaze of destruction.
10:46Her cold disregard for the devastation she's caused
10:49reinforces her turn for the worst,
10:51ultimately making her the true antagonist of the series.
10:55For many, Daenerys' transformation
10:56from liberator to tyrant,
10:58combined with Jon Snow's shift
11:00from an underdog hero to an indecisive pawn,
11:03eroded most of the equity
11:04the show had built with its fanbase.
11:08Number two, Ross Geller, Friends.
11:15We were on a break!
11:18Oh my god, if you say that one more time,
11:21I'm gonna break up with you.
11:24Although Ross does have some positive qualities,
11:27they're buried deep under layers of insecurity
11:29and petty behaviour.
11:30I mean, we get it.
11:32You were on a break.
11:33Whether it's the constant whining,
11:34possessiveness,
11:35romancing a much younger student,
11:37or making a move on his own cousin,
11:39he's pretty much a walking red flag.
11:41She wants it.
11:43I'm going in.
11:45What the hell are you doing?
11:58Say something clever.
12:02Though the show tries to portray him
12:03as the ultimate nice guy,
12:05it's hard to see him as anything
12:06but an insecure man-child
12:08still clinging to being his parents' favourite.
12:10But time hasn't been too kind to Dr. Geller,
12:13who doesn't get a free pass from today's viewers.
12:16And before he tries to correct our grammar,
12:18we agree with Monica.
12:19Sometimes, it's who.
12:22Whom? Whom?
12:24Sometimes it's who!
12:27Sometimes it's...

12:43and switch on notifications.
12:441. Jerry Mouse
12:47Tom and Jerry
12:49As kids,
12:58we all thought he was the good guy.
13:01But as adults,
13:02we're all Team Tom.
13:04We want this mouse out of the house.
13:06Alright, alright.
13:07We're joking.
13:08So let's move on to the real number one.
13:111. Meredith Grey
13:12Grey's Anatomy
13:13I can't leave you.
13:16But you're constantly leaving me.
13:19You walk away when you want.
13:21You come back when you want.
13:23Not everyone.
13:25Not your friends.
13:26But you leave me.
13:27For some,
13:28Izzy's decline from a likable outsider
13:30to a melodramatic mess
13:31was painful to watch.
13:32But she's got nothing
13:34on the show's titular character.
13:35Even after 20 years,
13:37Meredith remains the same.
13:39A cold, narcissistic,
13:40and rude person
13:41who constantly makes
13:42reckless decisions
13:43and blames everyone around her.
13:45But sometimes,
13:47that invasion of personal space,
13:49it can be exactly what you need.
13:54Instead of growing through her relationships,
13:57Meredith's emotional detachment
13:58becomes her defining trait,
13:59creating a wider gap between her
14:01and the more likable members of the cast.
14:03Despite repeatedly setting herself up for failure
14:06in both career and romance,
14:08Meredith falls into the same trap time and again.
14:11So, why is she like this?
14:13Nobody really knows.
14:14And after two decades of watching her remain narratively stagnant,
14:18nobody really cares anymore.
14:20Why aren't you saying anything?
14:20Because I really,
14:21I really don't want to talk about this.
14:24Yeah.
14:26Clearly.
14:27Is there a character you've given up on
14:29that we didn't mention?
14:30Let us know in the comments.
14:32Believe me,
14:32money laundering ain't what it used to be.
14:34God, do I miss the 80s.
14:36Let us know in the comments.
