00:00Shaka Rehachis and Han, Rehachis and Dudley!
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at once great TV characters whose reputations
00:12were forever tarnished by the time their final episodes aired. There will be spoilers.
00:18It would be understandable, given the past traumas the two of you have shared,
00:23for you to develop complex feelings for him.
00:26Number 10, Siler, aka Gabriel Grey. After the first season built him up for several episodes,
00:35Siler emerged as a scene-stealing big bad with a star-making turn from Zachary Quinto.
00:41I can fix it. It's an evolutionary imperative.
00:46After season one, though, this downward spiral of a show could never figure out what to do with
00:52the character. He went back and forth between being a hero and a villain, depending on what
00:56popped into the writers' heads that week.
00:59What I saw was inside your twisted mind. That wasn't your heart.
01:05I can prove it.
01:09Just give me a chance.
01:11Siler was boring as a hero, but having him revert to his villainous ways just felt repetitive.
01:17It also deprived other villains a chance to break through. By the final episode, Siler had switched
01:23sides so many times that we didn't care whether he was redeemed. We were just grateful that Quinto
01:29was finally free to pursue other roles.
01:31That's right.
01:35It's a brave new world.
01:38Number 9, Shane Botwin.
01:40Weeds.
01:41What's it like?
01:42What?
01:44Killing someone.
01:45You feel different.
01:49No.
01:49Weeds was initially about a single mother trying to support her family by selling cannabis.
01:54It deteriorated into a show about a neglectful mother raising a sociopath.
02:00Nancy's young son Shane starts as one of the show's most sympathetic characters.
02:04He's an outcast at school, but Shane is smart, sharp-tongued, and coping with the loss of his
02:10father in a relatable way. Shane eventually goes down a dark path, however. It starts with underage
02:15sex, substance use, and an especially cringey Oedipus complex. He officially goes off the deep
02:21end after casually murdering someone, which he sees as a joking matter.
02:25How f***ed up are you that you think that my three-year-old squirt for attention is the same as
02:31you murdering a woman with a croquet stick? It's a mallet. I'll be in the car.
02:36Going on to become a corrupt cop, Shane expresses a desire to change in the finale,
02:41but we think he's too far gone.
02:43No, I know. I'm a mess. I'm gonna deal with it.
02:45Number 8. Number 5 and Lila Pitts. The Umbrella Academy.
02:50You know, in some of those timelines, we've been lucky to get out alive.
02:53Ah, well, we're still kicking, so we must be doing something right.
02:57Although born on the same day as his adopted siblings, Number 5 is both younger and older
03:02than them. Due to a time-travel mishap, 5 spends 45 years stranded. When 5 returns to his siblings
03:09in the present, he's trapped in the body of his young teenager self. This ups the ick factor in
03:14the final season when 5 enters a romantic relationship with Lila.
03:20Don't.
03:22Don't what?
03:25Be weird.
03:29Is that weird?
03:30While 5 is a little older by then, there's still a noticeable age gap between the actors.
03:35If that doesn't make this random romance uncomfortable enough,
03:39Lila is married off to one of 5's adoptive brothers, Diego.
03:43Hey, where are you going?
03:46We just ran out of scrap metal.
03:49I'll join you in a minute.
03:51Okay, love.
03:52We'd like to wipe this storyline from existence, which the series finale technically does,
03:57as all traces of the main characters are erased.
04:01Number 7. Rory Gilmore.
04:03Gilmore Girls. A Year in the Life.
04:06Rory's descent began in the original series after she slept with a married Dean and dropped
04:10out of Yale for a period.
04:12He's married.
04:13You don't understand the situation.
04:15Is he still married?
04:16Yes, but...
04:17Then I understand the situation.
04:18But hey, we all make mistakes during our youth.
04:21What matters is that we learn from them as we grow up.
04:23Throughout the Year in the Life sequel series, though, an older Rory still finds herself
04:28lost, both professionally and romantically.
04:32Aside from struggling to hold down a job, Rory has an affair with an engaged Logan.
04:36We have an agreement.
04:38What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
04:40We do.
04:42And when we leave Vegas, we forget about Vegas.
04:45Rory also has a boyfriend whom she keeps forgetting to break up with.
04:49She apparently learned nothing from her experience with Dean.
04:52You have got to cut that poor boy loose.
04:54No, I keep meaning to, and I just keep forgetting.
04:57It's so, so sad.
04:58Rory didn't learn from her mother either, basically winding up where Lorelai was decades
05:03earlier, pregnant and uncertain about her future.
05:06Who can we marry you off to?
05:08Oh, I know.
05:09Did that nice Pee Wee Herman ever find himself a lady?
05:11Number 6.
05:12Ted Mosby.
05:13How I Met Your Mother.
05:15Season 6 opened with the revelation that Ted met the mysterious mother at a wedding.
05:19That was not the day I met your mother.
05:20The day I met your mother was the day of a wedding.
05:25It took three more seasons for that to happen.
05:27During that time, Ted had several more relationships that we knew wouldn't go anywhere, so there
05:32wasn't much emotional investment in them.
05:35Ted's character development also remained in limbo, as his obsession with finding the
05:39one got obnoxious.
05:41It was almost worth the wait.
05:43Ted's long-awaited introduction to the mother was genuinely sweet.
05:46Funny how sometimes you just find things.
05:56Hi.
05:56Hi.
05:58Until she died.
05:59As Ted wraps up his story, we learn that this was never about him meeting the mother,
06:04but rather how he's still holding a torch for Robin.
06:07Seeing Ted return to Robin felt like a step back to square one, undoing whatever growth
06:11he had.
06:21Number 5.
06:23Debra Morgan.
06:24Dexter.
06:25Dex, you saved a lot of lives today.
06:28You saved my life.
06:32I'd never let anything happen to you.
06:34With Dexter Resurrection, the future is looking bright for everyone's favorite serial killer
06:38after several missteps.
06:41Unfortunately, it's too late for this franchise to do right by Dexter's dearly departed sister.
06:46For many, the original show jumped the shark in season 6, when Deb began developing romantic
06:51feelings for her adoptive bro.
06:53Yes, I'm becoming upset because you're making it sound like I want to...
06:56be with him or something.
07:01Well, do you?
07:03The show tried to move past this vomit-inducing plot point, but the writers once again dropped
07:08the ball with Deb in the finale.
07:10With his sister falling into a vegetative state, Dexter drowns Deb and pursues a new career
07:15in lumberjacking.
07:17Deb has since returned in flashbacks and dream sequences, although her character arc ended on
07:22the worst note possible.
07:24Even if she were miraculously resurrected somehow, they can't undo the incest thing.
07:31Right here.
07:38Number 4.
07:39Rachel Berry.
07:40Glee.
07:41What?
07:42No!
07:42It's hard to root for a protagonist who was her own worst enemy.
07:46Rachel Berry is a bad friend and even worse girlfriend.
07:49Well, I mean, I will have won my first Tony by then, so...
07:53But there's one thing that can't be denied.
07:56She was born to be on stage.
07:58Yet, Rachel seemed to forget this between seasons 5 and 6.
08:02Although she finally achieved her dream of playing Fanny Brice on Broadway, Rachel throws
08:06it all away to headline a crappy sitcom that gets canned after one episode.
08:12Oh!
08:14Nailed him.
08:16Looks like Sir forgot to take his narcolepsy medicine.
08:19Then he'll be fine.
08:22I thought you were going to be singing.
08:23Where's the singing?
08:24They cut it.
08:25For all her faults, Glee still kept us invested in Rachel's Broadway dreams.
08:30Watching her make such a foolish decision felt like a betrayal of her character.
08:34Mr. Shue, can we just please pause it?
08:36I can't watch anymore.
08:37I get it.
08:38The final season focuses on Rachel searching for her second act.
08:41But for us, the curtain had already closed.
08:44Number 3.
08:46Debbie Gallagher.
08:47Shameless.
08:47Talk about a character who did a complete 180 between the first and last episodes.
08:53Despite her dysfunctional upbringing, Debbie is initially sweet, forgiving, and considerate
08:58of others.
08:59Then in season 5, Debbie decides that she wants to be a teen mom so she can trap the father
09:03into marriage.
09:04Pretty harsh, Debs.
09:05Who's going to put Franny and me on the street?
09:07And pretty dramatic.
09:09They're trying to give us all a fresh start.
09:10Instead, he runs out on her and their child, whom Debbie neglects.
09:15Debbie enters several more toxic relationships, often being the source of that toxicity.
09:20Being a Gallagher, Debbie also has several run-ins with the law.
09:23I'll come back tomorrow and I'll replace everything that I borrowed, okay?
09:26I'm not going to press charges because clearly you are so white trash that you need to get
09:31food for your family.
09:32I am not white trash.
09:32But you are never coming near my house again.
09:35One could argue that Debbie is a victim of her surroundings, but there comes a time when
09:39everyone is responsible for their actions.
09:42Debbie is incapable of accepting accountability, making Frank Gallagher look like a saint by the
09:47end.
09:47You're not the only one with s**t going on, Debs.
09:49If you can't handle it, lean the f**k out.
09:51Don't blame us for being a s**t mom.
09:53Number two, Miranda Hobbes.
09:56And Just Like That.
09:57And Just Like That didn't do Carrie Bradshaw's legacy any favors.
10:02Although the protagonist had issues even before this sequel series.
10:06The show did more damage to Miranda Hobbes, who went from a strong-willed, level-headed career
10:11woman to a hot mess whose life becomes defined by her love interest.
10:15No, not Steve.
10:16She dumps him to chase after Che, a non-binary comedian who specializes in unintentional cringe
10:23comedy.
10:23I never said I was in an open marriage.
10:27You never said you weren't.
10:30I mean, you get out of my bed and go home to a husband.
10:32That's an open marriage.
10:36We probably should have discussed this before now.
10:39You think?
10:40So when Steve regretfully cheated on Miranda, it was a betrayal.
10:44But when she commits adultery, it's liberating.
10:47While her relationship with Che didn't last, the damage was done.
10:50She was confused about everything.
10:53Miranda's unraveling as a character continued to fuel the hate-watching fad until HBO finally
11:06pulled the plug.
11:07As Miranda tried to appear more progressive, she ironically regressed.

11:31To a generation of children who were named Daenerys and Khaleesi, we're sorry.
11:53Of course, it's the writers behind Game of Thrones who should be apologizing.
11:56Throughout several seasons, we watched Dany mature from a frightened young bride to a resilient
12:02leader whom we rooted for.
12:04Then, in the penultimate episode, the showrunners decided she's the mad queen now.
12:09Yeah, she had her morally questionable moments in the past, but impulsively burning King's
12:14Landing undid years of development in a matter of minutes.
12:17The only thing more rushed than Dany's dark descent was Jon's decision to kill the woman he loves.
12:28It wasn't just King's Landing that went up in flames.
12:31It ruined Daenerys, along with a show that could have been among the all-time greats.
12:35You freed your brother.
12:38You committed treason.
12:41I freed my brother.
12:46And you slaughtered a city.
12:49What other characters were ruined by the series finale?
12:52Let us know in the comments.
12:53You cannot take my brain.
12:55Please.
12:56What would I want with your brain?
13:06What other you have done?
13:20Open the room.
13:20And there you go.
13:24You %uh.
13:28Then you have time.
13:32Then you're, everybody.
