'Seems To Have No Concept Of Ethics At All': Dem Senator Lays Smackdown On Jeanine Pirro

In today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) voiced opposition to Jeanine Pirro, nominee to be U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C.

00:05Pirro. Senator Coons? Senator Coons was fine with this. I'm just going to put my

00:10statements on the record as well for my reasons to objecting to Jeanine Pirro as

00:15well as my statement I was unable to make on Emile Beauvais last week. Thank

00:21you. Senator Coons. Mr. Chairman I defer to Senator Hirono and would then like to

00:25make my statement about Jeanine Pirro. Mr. Chairman thank you very much and I

00:29thank Senator Coons for the courtesy of allowing me to go first. My concerns

00:34with Ms. Pirro's nomination are numerous. Ms. Pirro is a Fox News media

00:39personality. She does not have the professional qualifications or the

00:44prosecutorial ethics to serve as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

00:48In fact she seems to have no concept of ethics at all. For starters she

00:54perpetrated misinformation and lies about the 2020 presidential election.

00:58She was also formerly the subject of a federal investigation into illegal

01:04wiretapping over her attempts to get a former police commissioner to bug her

01:12then husband's boat to catch him cheating. Pretty bizarre. Later Ms. Pirro

01:20personally lobbied President Trump to pardon her ex-husband for his multiple

01:25convictions of tax fraud and tax evasion. And he did so. This is a man who was

01:32federally investigated for having leaked information from the prosecutor's office

01:37Ms. Pirro led to the mob. If Ms. Pirro is confirmed as the U.S. Attorney for the

01:43District of Columbia she will prioritize politics over justice for the people. This is

01:49not someone who cares about crimes of sexual assault and sexual harassment. In fact she's

01:56criticized me for questioning nominees about sexual misconduct stating that it's an issue

02:02that quote doesn't really matter end quote. Rather Ms. Pirro is someone who cares about

02:10political revenge threatening to not just fire but prosecute FBI employees simply for doing their jobs.

02:22Like all of President Trump's nominees she has demonstrated unwavering loyalty to him and if

02:30confirmed we can expect that she will misuse the U.S. Attorney's office to go after President Trump's

02:37political enemies. For these very serious concerns I oppose her nomination and would urge my colleagues to do

02:45otherwise. Thank you. Senator Coons. Thank you Chairman Grassley. I strongly oppose Jeanine Pirro's nomination.
