00:00Right, if you'd like to introduce yourself please.
00:02Hello, my name's Amy and I'm the project manager for the South Sea Coastal Scheme.
00:06So tell us a little bit about the Coastal Scheme, what's happening?
00:10Yeah, so the South Sea Coastal Scheme, it stretches to four and a half kilometres from Old Portsmouth all the way through to Eastleigh.
00:17And we're here to provide better sea defences for Portsmouth.
00:22All of the sea defences that we have at the moment are reaching the end of their life and it's important that we build that resilience for the future.
00:28So what section is being worked on at the moment?
00:31So here today we're working on what we call subfrontage 3, South Sea Common.
00:36Okay, and where does that stretch from and to?
00:38South Sea Common, subfrontage 3, South Sea Common, stretches from the hover travel up to Blue Reef.
00:44Okay, and what kind of sea defences are being put in?
00:47Yeah, so here we're building a combination of sea defences.
00:50So between the hover travel and the beach club we are building a step development and we've brought in a large amount of beach material.
00:58And that's in order to still provide that public open access space for the beach.
01:02And then in between the beach club and Blue Reef we're continuing the defences that we've built around South Sea Castle.
01:08So here we have a short upstand wall with rock armour in front of it.
01:13So all of the sea defences will basically match what's already in front of South Sea Castle, is that right?
01:17Yeah, that's absolutely right. There's a continued theme throughout the whole of the frontage.
01:21And what changes are going to be made to the road?
01:22So there's going to be several changes made to the road.
01:25The main one being the road will now be a one-way.
01:27So cars and vehicles will be able to access the road from the east to westbound.
01:32There'll be a 20 mile per hour speed limit imposed on the highways.
01:35We're also introducing a two-way cycle lane as well.
01:41And there's work obviously going on at the Naval Memorial as well at the moment, isn't there?
01:45Yeah, so the Naval War Memorial is a Grade 1 listed structure and what we've had to do, where we're raising the highways, we're also raising up the planters and the benches that you once had to access via a set of steps.
01:59Once we've completed raising these elements, you'll be able to access the War Memorial from an even level.
02:06And when will all the work be completed?
02:08So all being well, we will be open for Summer 2026.
