00:00Now on the Bovee cloture vote. Later today Senate Republicans will hold the
00:06first procedural vote on one of Donald Trump's nastiest judicial nominees to
00:10date, Emile Bovee. Mr. Bovee is beyond unqualified and unworthy of the federal
00:17bench. He's an existential threat to the rule of law and our democracy as we know
00:21it. Mr. Bovee is far from the mainstream as any judicial nominee we've
00:25considered in this chamber. He's a Trumpian henchman, the extreme of the
00:31extreme of the extreme. He's openly hostile to the rule of law. He's
00:36fundamentally opposed to democratic norms. He lacks the temperament to serve as a
00:41jurist. And above all, above all, Bovee is religiously obedient to Donald Trump. We
00:49all know that one of the only things that matters to this president is brazen,
00:55unyielding obedience to him, no matter how wrong he is, no matter what lies he
01:00tells. Mr. Bovee made a name for himself by cleaning up Donald Trump's dirty
01:05laundry. That's what he did. He cleaned up Donald Trump's dirty laundry. He's a
01:11devout January 6th apologist who defended Trump as his personal attorney after
01:16Trump was charged with inciting the insurrection. At the Justice Department,
01:20he wielded his power to fire prosecutors working on January 6th criminal cases and
01:26punish FBI agents, people who dedicated their lives to our country and were
01:31simply following the law. He goes out and tries to punish them because they
01:36stopped Donald Trump's insurrection. So instead of working to hold the January 6th
01:43rioters accountable, Bovee sided with the rioters who desecrated the building and
01:48violently attacked our police officers. Imagine Republicans going after people
01:52who attack police officers. All because Donald Trump incited an insurrection that
01:58he now lies about. Well, that's who Mr. Bovee is. And it's not even the all of it.
02:05While at the Justice Department, Mr. Bovee reportedly told DOJ lawyers to ignore
02:10court orders and even deliberately mislead judges. That's what he said. That's what he
02:17reportedly told DOJ lawyers. Ignore court orders and mislead judges. Can you
02:22believe this? We're trying to put this guy on the bench. How low can our
02:25Republican colleagues go in obeisance to Donald Trump when so many of them, not
02:29all of them, not all of them, but so many of them know he's wrong. If there's even a
02:35shred of truth to these allegations, that alone is enough to disqualify Mr. Bovee
02:40from ever holding federal office and federal judgeship above all. But my
02:46Republican colleagues don't seem to want to get to the facts. Republicans are so
02:51afraid of Donald Trump, so willing to do whatever he says, that many of them are
02:57going along with Bovee's nomination without a whisper, without so much as a
03:01whisper of scrutiny. Also, all the signs are pointing towards Bovee being a
03:06disastrous judge who will take advantage of his power on the Third Circuit to
03:10settle scores and advance the Trump agenda. So Republicans have a decision
03:17to make. If they still have any respect left for the Senate as a check on the
03:21executive, if they still have any respect for our judiciary and the rule of law,
03:25then Republicans should join Democrats' vote no on Mr. Bovee's nomination.
