On July 19, 2025, The Museum of Digital Art (MUDA) has launched its inaugural exhibition in Bellinzona, Switzerland, featuring Swiss artist Dirk Koy. Hosted in the historic Sala Arsenale at the UNESCO-listed Castel Grande, the exhibition showcases Dirk Koy’s digital art, blending analogue footage with digital techniques to reimagine everyday landscapes and perspectives. The show also includes works by artists Esther Hunziker, Sabine Hertig, and local duo Gysin-Vanetti. Running until November 9, 2025, the exhibition, supported by Città di Bellinzona and Basel-Stadt cultural funding, marks MUDA’s expansion into Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region’s art scene. In this video, we visit the media preview and the opening of the exhibition, and Dirk Koy talks about the current exhibition and his artistic practice.

Dirk Koy (1977) remixes analogue footage with digital techniques. Often portraying daily life and ordinary landscapes, he then twists perspectives to create new realities. As a child, he experimented by cutting and reassembling the magnetic band of his parents’ VHS tapes. This curiosity likely led him to study graphic design where he developed a keen eye for shapes and patterns. Using cameras, sometimes mounted on flying drones, he captures these forms in natural and manmade environments. He then displaces pixels and time, reimagining the familiar into compositions that defy conventions and invite new ways of seeing.
The Museum of Digital Art is an initiative of the Digital Arts Association, a non-profit organisation. Dedicated to the art of code and numbers, the institute is an open space connecting and exploring the relationships between data, algorithms and society. The museum was opened in February 2016 thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign.
