00:00:27Oh, my God.
00:00:57Stand by, camera one.
00:01:07And this special report from KLB Television.
00:01:10The National Aeronautics and Space Agency quotes officials as saying
00:01:14that the asteroid now entering our portion of the solar system poses no threat to Earth.
00:01:20Meanwhile, NASA's viewpoint is substantiated by observatories as far away as Siberia and Pico.
00:01:27However, as might be expected, official sources in Moscow and Peking do have a difference of opinion
00:01:34as to the size and mass of the space intruder.
00:01:38Nevertheless, the world's scientific community is generally agreed on one thing.
00:01:43The asteroid is on a collision course with the moon.
00:01:48After the impact, astronomers will no doubt have to add a new crater to their maps of our already
00:01:54pop-marked moon.
00:01:56In any event, we will interrupt our regular programs to keep you informed of the now certain
00:02:01collation in outer space and to bring you any further bulletins from leading observatories
00:02:05or from NASA.

00:07:38IT'S ALRIGHT WITH

00:07:40NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
00:07:41JUST FOLLOW MY CAR!
00:07:42UM, WHY DO YOU
00:07:43CALL HIM JOHNNY LOMBOW?
00:07:45It translates warrior's bow that reaches long to its mark.
00:07:52Actually, he handles the bow like one of his ancestors.
00:07:57There's additional word from NASA this evening
00:08:00concerning the asteroid that collided with the moon two days ago.
00:08:04Radio telemetry from the seismometers planted on the moon's surface
00:08:08and previous follow missions have recorded the shock of the impact
00:08:11as beyond the end of the Richter scale.
00:08:14On Earth, this would be a disturbance that would rival the explosion
00:08:18in the 19th century of the volcanic island of Krakatoa.
00:08:22The impact on the moon is sent off a shower of fragments mixed with pieces of the asteroid.
00:08:29Some of these small fragments will enter Earth's atmosphere tonight,
00:08:33but they will undoubtedly explode into nothing more than a harmless shower
00:08:38of tiny meteorites, according to NASA officials.
00:08:41The greatest concentration of this meteor shower will be over the southwest region of the United States.
00:08:47This meteor shower will be, however, quite harmless, according to the statement from NASA,
00:08:53and likely to provide nothing more than a spectacular sight in the skies.
00:08:58And that's the story of the awesome collision on the moon today.
00:09:02This is Gary Kanin from our news center in Albuquerque.
00:09:11I didn't schedule a meteor shower as part of the evening entertainment at the reservation.
00:09:15It should be quite a sight.
00:09:17This is a great meal, Professor.
00:09:19That's a great stew.
00:09:21What's in it?
00:09:22Oh, a lot of things.
00:09:24Chicken, corn, green peppers, chili, onions.
00:09:31Uh, well, it's an old recipe around here.
00:09:36Well, if nobody minds, I think I'll have some more.
00:09:39Uh, all for the cause of research, naturally.
00:09:42I'm glad that's what you call it.
00:09:46You know, I'd like to get some night shots of this area.
00:09:50Well, if you don't mind me tagging along, I know a few great spots.
00:09:54But they're pretty far away.
00:10:15What's that?
00:10:19That is a lizard.
00:10:21Oh, sorry.
00:10:23Things like that scare me.
00:10:25You get used to lizards here.
00:10:27They're quite common.
00:10:28That's why tribes in this area have so many legends about lizards.
00:10:33Like, uh, what, for instance?
00:10:36Oh.
00:10:37Such as the story of a lizard and coyote, for instance.
00:10:41In the days before there were men on Earth.
00:10:44Sounds like it's going to be the, uh, Navajo version of Genesis.
00:10:48Ignore him, Professor.
00:10:50I'd like to hear the story.
00:10:52It will have no effect on your grades.
00:10:56I don't expect it to.
00:10:58I'd just like to hear it.
00:11:00Well, one day, before man walked on Earth,
00:11:06lizard and coyote were having an argument about what shape man would take.
00:11:11Lizard won the argument.
00:11:14They finally agreed that man's hands would be shaped like lizards.
00:11:19Four fingers and a thumb.
00:11:23Hey, that's right.
00:11:25Was that the end of the story?
00:11:27Not quite.
00:11:29Coyote drove a hard bargain.
00:11:31He agreed that man's hands would be shaped like lizards rather than his paws.
00:11:36But only, only, if man would be mortal.
00:11:43And never again try to be like lizard.
00:11:47You see, quite a distance up here.
00:12:01We've got a lot more air pollution than we used to.
00:12:05That's Albuquerque over there.
00:12:07And that road leads to Santa Fe northeast.
00:12:13And the river's over there.
00:12:15Pa, where are we exactly?
00:12:20I'm sorry.
00:12:21We're on the top of Sandia Crest.
00:12:23It's 10,678 feet up or down.
00:12:29Depending on where you are.
00:12:31And your point of view.
00:12:36Yeah, I'd like to come up here at night.
00:12:40It's one of my favorite places on Earth.
00:12:42It's always so peaceful.
00:12:47So quiet.
00:12:51Somehow, above the rest of my life.
00:13:08Ride on schedule.
00:13:12I'm sorry.
00:13:17Paul, what's wrong?
00:13:18What is it?
00:13:36Paul, are you all right?
00:13:39What happened?
00:13:40A meteorite.
00:13:45A lunar meteorite.
00:13:47A meteorite?
00:13:49We heard about it earlier on TV.
00:13:52Yes, but here?
00:13:54Well, we're right in the area where they're due to fall.
00:13:58I guess we can consider ourselves lucky.
00:14:01What's the matter?
00:14:02You've got a scratch or something on your forehead.
00:14:05I don't feel anything.
00:14:06Oh, no, don't touch it.
00:14:07Let me do that.
00:14:08I must have bumped it when we hit the dirt.
00:14:10Let me clean it up anyway.
00:14:11See?
00:14:12You were bleeding.
00:14:13Huh.
00:14:14That's nothing.
00:14:16Hey, Kathy.
00:14:18Look at that.
00:14:19Hey, Kathy.
00:14:20Look at that.
00:14:21Hey, Kathy.
00:14:22Look at that.
00:14:25That'll make a great souvenir.
00:14:26My own personal moon rock.
00:14:27It's a great souvenir.
00:14:28My own personal moon rock.
00:14:29I don't know.
00:14:30I need to clean it up anyway.
00:14:33See?
00:14:34You were bleeding.
00:14:35Not very well, Kathy.
00:14:37Hey, Kathy.
00:14:38Look at that.
00:14:50That'll make a great souvenir.
00:14:53My own personal moon rock.
00:14:55Moon rock!
00:14:56Oh, wow!
00:14:57Did I say something wrong?
00:14:58No, but you just reminded me.
00:15:00I'm supposed to go into town tomorrow.
00:15:02There's a NASA exhibit at the university
00:15:04and I'm supposed to cover it.
00:15:05That's a great idea.
00:15:08We'll go to the exhibit, then we'll have some supper,
00:15:12then we'll go out afterwards.
00:15:15Just in case the moon rock hasn't cooled off.
00:15:27It's cool enough to travel now.
00:15:34Have you got a first aid kit in that bag?
00:15:40A few things, why?
00:15:42I'm still worried about that cut on your head.
00:15:45It could get infected.
00:15:47Look, I don't live far from here,
00:15:50and I've got all kinds of antiseptic in my medicine cabinet
00:15:53at my place.
00:15:56Your place?
00:15:59My place.
00:16:01Fine.
00:16:04Your place, then.
00:16:06Fine.
00:16:07Hmm.
00:16:07Fine.
00:16:08Fine.
00:16:09Fine.
00:16:10Fine.
00:16:11Fine.
00:16:12Fine.
00:16:13Fine.
00:16:14Fine.
00:16:15Fine.
00:16:16I've been waiting for you,
00:16:20so I am going to get back for a moment.
00:16:22I have no idea.
00:16:23I'm going to have a question.
00:16:25I'm going to go.
00:16:27I am.
00:16:28But then, if you forget it!
00:16:29The γ¨ernican one day,
00:16:30I've got caught that!
00:16:32I gather nobody's home.
00:16:59My mother's in Europe.
00:17:00She travels a lot.
00:18:00Hey, his name is Ty.
00:18:09Ty?
00:18:10Short for Tyrannosaurus.
00:18:12Sounds like something in a museum.
00:18:14It is, usually.
00:18:16Ty looks a lot like a dinosaur.
00:18:19Or like the dragon the Indians call Avenue.
00:18:23Thank you for introducing me to your friend.
00:18:25Well, I hope he didn't frighten you.
00:18:28Paul.
00:18:31It's us I'm really frightened about.
00:18:35Kathy.
00:18:37Kathy.
00:18:38Excuse me, Emily.
00:18:42Get a closer look at this moon rock.
00:18:46Paul.
00:18:47Paul.
00:18:48What happened?
00:18:49What happened?
00:18:51What happened?
00:18:52What happened?
00:18:54What happened?
00:18:56I guess I blacked out.
00:19:03I'm okay.
00:19:04Are you sure?
00:19:05Yeah, I'm fine.
00:19:06What happened?
00:19:07What happened?
00:19:08I guess I blacked out.
00:19:10I'm okay.
00:19:12Are you sure?
00:19:13Yeah, I'm fine.
00:19:14I just need some fresh air.
00:19:15What happened?
00:19:29What happened?
00:19:38My voice been getting foggy
00:19:58I've been smoking too damn much
00:20:01Singing songs to the sun
00:20:05That's rising, rhyming words
00:20:08I cannot touch
00:20:09Oh, I've been wandering in circles
00:20:14With just a guitar in my hand
00:20:18Playing one too many barrooms
00:20:21And drinking more than I can stand
00:20:26California lady
00:20:30Won't you bring your love to me

00:27:42What happened to you?
00:27:44I'm killing a messy one.
00:27:48What happened to you?
00:27:50I'm killing a messy one.
00:27:53I'm killing a messy one.
00:27:56I'm killing a messy one.
00:27:59I'm killing a messy one.
00:28:02I'll make sure I'll have a copy of your desk when you get back up.
00:28:05Good.
00:28:06Let me have copies of the other reports, too.
00:28:08All of them.
00:28:09Yes, sir.
00:28:10Fine.
00:28:11Check in the house and see if you can lend a hand.
00:28:14Now I'll tell you why.
00:28:17Exactly why I asked you here.
00:28:19I was wondering.
00:28:20It sounded urgent.
00:28:21It's because I need an opinion from you.
00:28:23I feel this in medicine.
00:28:24You know that, Mac.
00:28:26I'm killing a messy one.
00:28:29The medical examiner's report being phoned in.
00:28:31You know that, Mac.
00:28:32I know.
00:28:33What then?
00:28:34One problem with being a cop is that eventually you think you've seen everything.
00:28:38Well, this morning I found out I was wrong.
00:28:41This is different.
00:28:43Uh, which one is?
00:28:45Him.
00:28:46The woman had a weak heart.
00:28:49And what she saw when she opened the door apparently finished her.
00:28:55There's no report of any violence on her.
00:28:58But take a look at the man.
00:29:01What kind of thing would cut up someone like that?
00:29:07Could have been a mountain lion, Mac.
00:29:10No, Jenny.
00:29:11Not that easy.
00:29:16I want to show you something one of my men found at the back of the house.
00:29:25Whatever.
00:29:26Killed Harris must have tripped over the garden hose.
00:29:28And grabbed at the side of the house for support.
00:29:33Uh, take a break.
00:29:34I'll, uh, check things, yes.
00:29:37You're right.
00:29:39That wasn't made by a mountain lion.
00:29:43That mark was made by a human hand.
00:29:46Well, I would agree with you except for one thing.
00:29:49You tell me what kind of human makes a footpin like that.
00:29:54Can I get the picture, Jenny?
00:29:58When I got that radio call, I thought someone had made a real goof.
00:30:03But when I saw Harris, I had to believe it.
00:30:09Harris was killed by some kind of thing that was nearly seven feet tall.
00:30:15Had hands with claws on the fingers.
00:30:21And walked on feet like I've never seen before.
00:30:27Well, that's why I had to bring you here, Jenny.
00:30:31Now, you're right.
00:30:32This is not some kind of medical problem.
00:30:34I don't know what kind of problem it is.
00:30:38You're an anthropologist, Jenny.
00:30:40I thought, well, just maybe, you might be able to help us with this.
00:30:47Well, I can't tell you.
00:30:51I've seen a track like that before.
00:30:53Where?
00:30:55In a museum.
00:30:57A fossil track.
00:30:59Several million years old.
00:31:03Have you man met a plastic after the track?
00:31:05Yes.
00:31:07We might get a better answer from the paleontology department at the university.
00:31:12The department head, Dietz, he's a friend of mine.
00:31:15Let's go, now.
00:31:17The casting should be ready.
00:31:36What?
00:31:45Wake up.
00:31:48Wake up!
00:31:54I decided to make breakfast for us while you hit the shower.
00:32:02Paul!
00:32:07I agree with Professor Salinas.
00:32:09Your casting here is that of the left hind foot.
00:32:13Of some form of reptile.
00:32:15Some very, very large lizard.
00:32:18I still can't believe that there are lizards that big in New Mexico.
00:32:21Or anywhere else for that matter.
00:32:23Sorry, Captain McCabe. You're wrong about that.
00:32:25There is a lizard we call Varnus comodensis.
00:32:29There's some photos of him over in the paleontology lab.
00:32:32Who grows to be all of ten feet long.
00:32:34He's quite a fellow.
00:32:37The Indonesians call him the Komodo dragon.
00:32:40Gee, is it possible that one of these lizards is here?
00:32:44Somehow?
00:32:45I don't think so.
00:32:47And if there were one somehow on the loose, it wouldn't be what you're looking for.
00:32:51The Komodo dragon walks on four feet.
00:32:53This indicates a lizard that can walk upright.
00:32:58Some form of reptile closely related to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
00:33:05I don't think so.
00:33:06I don't think so.
00:33:12Thanks, Johnny.
00:33:14How in the hell am I going to tell the commissioner or anyone down at City Hall?
00:33:19A man was killed on the doorstep of his own home last night by some kind of dinosaur.
00:33:24See?
00:33:25Right.
00:33:25How do you feel today, Paul?
00:33:55Oh, a lot better than yesterday.
00:33:58Hi.
00:33:59Hi.
00:34:00Hey, they're pretty good.
00:34:01But you should see Johnny work with the boat.
00:34:04Our scholarly anthropologist here was the conference archery champ in college.
00:34:09I've seen his trophies.
00:34:11How about a little demonstration for our captain?
00:34:14All right.
00:34:17Come on, Johnny Longbow.
00:34:19I'd like to see you live up to your name.
00:34:25Johnny made everything himself.
00:34:38Even the arrowheads.
00:34:41Everything is authentic Indian.
00:34:46Okay, Johnny.
00:34:51Now let's really impress the lady from New York.
00:34:55Hold this.
00:35:22Hold this.
00:35:29Come on.
00:35:30Come on.
00:35:31Come on.
00:35:32Come on.
00:35:33Come on.
00:35:34Come on.
00:35:35Come on.
00:35:36Come on.
00:35:37Come on.
00:35:38Come on.
00:35:39Come on.
00:35:40Come on.
00:35:41I think he opened his up.
00:35:42They're coming out here today.
00:35:43Oh, I think you're coming out here today better get him home Kathy
00:35:57Oh
00:36:11No, you're not talking me out of it this time. I'm staying
00:36:18You need looking after
00:36:23Did you take the aspirin yes master
00:36:27Oh
00:36:30Yeah, that's better
00:36:33Dark and restful you should be able to sleep now

00:40:53Paul
00:41:01When I woke up and couldn't find you anywhere in the house, I got so worried. What are you doing out here?
00:41:11I
00:41:17It was so warm in my room, I
00:41:19I
00:41:21I couldn't get back to sleep.
00:41:23It must have been chilly out here last night. You could have caught cold.
00:41:31All you men are alike. Sometimes you act like such big babies.
00:41:35Come on
00:41:37Come on. I'll make you some breakfast.
00:41:41He was still alive when we found them.
00:41:47The man was pretty far gone in shock.
00:41:49But he did manage to say something about a lizard.
00:41:53A big lizard.
00:41:55A big lizard that walked like a man.
00:41:57Seems to me I've heard that expression before.
00:42:01Maybe
00:42:03Something your friend needs said about a dinosaur.
00:42:05The tyrannosaurs
00:42:09Well, there have been discoveries of supposedly extinct creatures dating back to the dinosaur age.
00:42:17Ancient life forms that are still alive today.
00:42:21Maybe there is a dinosaur still alive.
00:42:29Up in the hills.
00:42:33Something drove it out of the hills.
00:42:35Now it's on those.
00:42:37Professor Salinas,
00:42:39Those poor men murdered in the hills last night.
00:42:41Have the police found out who did it?
00:42:43Only some theories.
00:42:45That's all so far.
00:42:47Are those the reason for all that laughter when I drove up?
00:42:51They're the pictures Cathy took at the NASA exhibit.
00:42:55You should see the one of Bud looking at the girl in the tight jumpsuit.
00:42:59His eyes were popping out.
00:43:01What happened in this shot?
00:43:03Oh, this one.
00:43:05I don't really know.
00:43:07It's probably a light leak or a lab error.
00:43:11It's on the original transparency, too.
00:43:13I was going to check with the lab in town later.
00:43:17How is he, by the way?
00:43:19Paul?
00:43:21He seemed a little better when Janet and Bud called for me before.
00:43:25But he still had a headache.
00:43:27I'm worried about him. Those headaches he's been having.
00:43:29He's been having those headaches since the day after that meteor shower.
00:43:33Didn't you tell me he hit his head in the ground that night?
00:43:37When he tried to shield you from that meteorite that exploded.
00:43:39That's right. He got a cut on his head.
00:43:41A cut?
00:43:43More like a scratch. Just a little one.
00:43:47It's possible Paul may have gotten more than a scratch.
00:43:51A light concussion, maybe.
00:43:53Then you think...
00:43:54Don't worry. I said it might be a light concussion.
00:43:57It's nothing really serious.
00:44:01I'll tell you what.
00:44:03I'll pick up Paul on my way.
00:44:05Take him to a hospital.
00:44:07St. Joseph's will be the best.
00:44:11They'll do a cranial x-ray. Check him out.
00:44:13He'll be back to normal and back to you in no time at all.
00:44:17The lab that did this print.
00:44:19It's near the hospital.
00:44:21I'll have that light streak checked out.
00:44:25Save your trip.
00:44:27Hurry up, Snowpook.
00:44:31I want to get you off my hands.
00:44:33Then your lady can take over.
00:44:35Johnny, you're one hell of a guy.
00:44:37White man speak with forked tongue.
00:44:41No, quick. Let me write that down.
00:44:43Hurry up, will you?
00:44:45I got other things to do.
00:44:47What happened here? Where's Ty?
00:44:49I don't know.
00:44:51He must have broken out the night before last.
00:44:55Something scared him.
00:44:57Maybe the meteor shower.
00:45:05Is this the meteorite you found?
00:45:07Small and personal moon rock.
00:45:11Funny thing. I've looked through every text I have on mineralogy.
00:45:17And I can't find anything like it.
00:45:21Of course, I haven't run a series of tests on it.
00:45:24Do you mind if I borrow your moon rock for a couple of days?
00:45:27Go ahead.
00:45:29I was gonna take it to the geology lab anyway.
00:45:32Maybe they can find the answer to it.
00:45:34I can't.
00:45:36But right now we're gonna take you over to St. Joe's.
00:45:40Maybe they can find an answer to what's been bugging you.
00:45:43That's it. You can get dressed now.
00:45:47I've finished with your friend.
00:45:49It'll take about 20 minutes or so to process the plates.
00:45:51Dr. Sutton's expecting you.
00:45:52He left worthy to wait in his office.
00:45:53Thanks.
00:45:54How do you feel?
00:45:55Not bad.
00:45:56Good.
00:45:57While you're waiting, I might as well do an errand near here.
00:45:58I'll be back in a little while.
00:45:59That's right.
00:46:00Then it's not just some kind of error in printing, Mr. Hamill.
00:46:01Definitely not.
00:46:02I remember looking at the originals on that roll myself.
00:46:03What do you see is what happened.
00:46:04I can't explain it, but it's not our fault or the fault of the film.
00:46:05Have you ever seen anything like that before?
00:46:06Never.
00:46:07Never.
00:46:08I've been in this business for years.
00:46:09What do you see is what happened?
00:46:10I can't explain it, but it's not our fault or the fault of the film.
00:46:12Have you ever seen anything like that before?
00:46:13Never.
00:46:14And I've been in this business for years.
00:46:15I'm Dr. Sutton.
00:46:34Would you come this way, please?
00:46:36I've looked at your x rays.
00:46:38And?
00:46:39I've looked at your x-rays.
00:46:41And?
00:46:42We don't usually discuss them with patients,
00:46:45but this isn't a usual case, Mr. Carlson.
00:46:50This is the normal situation, just to give you an idea.
00:46:57And this is the one we took of you.
00:47:00What does it mean?
00:47:02What's happened to me?
00:47:04You've been hit by a small particle of matter of some kind.
00:47:08Not enough to cause any pain because of the high speed.
00:47:12But it is there.
00:47:15Then...
00:47:17Something's inside my head?
00:47:19Yes.
00:47:20It's not uncommon.
00:47:22There have been cases where servicemen have survived
00:47:25with small particles of shrapnel embedded in their brain.
00:47:29This wasn't shrapnel, Doctor.
00:47:31So I understood.
00:47:33A meteorite, you said?
00:47:36What happens now?
00:47:39Now?
00:47:40Now we're going to keep you here for a few more days for observation.
00:47:43We're going to take more x-rays.
00:47:45If that area doesn't clear up,
00:47:47we're going to do something about it, surgically.
00:47:51I made these photos several years ago, when I was doing research for my doctorate.
00:48:03They just might have a connection to your killer lizard.
00:48:06Well, at this point, I'll settle for anything in the way I believe.
00:48:11Well, let's see it.
00:48:16This was the first scene in a deer hide painting I was shown.
00:48:20Not many people have seen it.
00:48:22It's something like 400 years old.
00:48:26What's happening to the Indian in the painting?
00:48:29It's the beginning of the story.
00:48:32He's being struck by a light that comes down from the sky.
00:48:38Well, what happened to him?
00:48:41See for yourself.
00:48:44Whatever struck him from the sky changed him completely from human form.
00:48:48He became a demon lizard monster.
00:48:59Arrows had no effect on him.
00:49:01Well, how'd they get rid of this demon lizard?
00:49:06They didn't.
00:49:07But he died anyway.
00:49:09It was consumed by fire.
00:49:12But where the flames came from, nobody knows.
00:49:15That's a mystery.
00:49:27And it's still a mystery after 400 years.
00:49:34I know what you're thinking.
00:49:38It's only an Indian legend.
00:49:41Part of our tribal culture.
00:49:43I know, it's fantastic.
00:49:45But it's the one thing that ties in with what the fisherman said.
00:49:48He said the camp was attacked by a lizard that walked like a man.
00:50:01Now, I want your help, Mac.
00:50:13Well, we've got the place to ourselves.
00:50:18I had to close up early on my authority.
00:50:21I hope this proves something.
00:50:23I think I'll know in a minute.
00:50:26I never thought I'd see the day when I tried to solve a case of Indian superstition.
00:50:32We are just about to find out.
00:50:47It should be somewhere just about here.
00:50:56What was that?
00:50:57I don't really know.
00:51:02My guess is that there's some unusual element in this fragment that synchronizes with that larger mass of the day.
00:51:13And it produces some kind of energy reaction.
00:51:17You mean this energy or whatever it is?
00:51:20You're going to turn a human into a monster?
00:51:24Just like in those werewolf tales?
00:51:28When there's a full moon in Transylvania?
00:51:31Honey, I've known you for a long time.
00:51:34And you've got to be kidding.
00:51:35I wish I was kidding, Mac.
00:51:37I'm not.
00:51:38No, there is an answer.
00:51:41And I think I know what it is.
00:51:46And it makes me sick to think about it.
00:51:56If what you say is true,
00:51:59the x-rays,
00:52:01the way the meteorite reacted,
00:52:05and you're Indian legend,
00:52:08then there's something I've got to know from my own peace of mind.
00:52:13Maybe rough, boss.
00:52:15He's right, Paul.
00:52:18Nobody knows what may happen.
00:52:24Let's find out.
00:52:26How much time do I have?
00:52:29It'll be sundown in half an hour.
00:52:31The moon will be up an hour or so after that.
00:52:38You fooled.
00:52:40Before anything happens,
00:52:43I want to talk to Cathy.
00:52:45I'm sure that can be arranged.
00:52:47She's at the reservation.
00:52:48I'll phone her now.
00:53:01You better give her some idea of what he might have to go through.
00:53:08Just to prepare.
00:53:10I'll try.
00:53:13Cathy.
00:53:15I have to talk to you before.
00:53:17Go in there.
00:53:18You had to move Paul to another room.
00:53:20Is he there?
00:53:21Why is he in there?
00:53:22Why are these policemen here?
00:53:24We're not sure what may happen to Paul after the moonrise.
00:53:27In fact, moving him here was his idea.
00:53:30But surely...
00:53:31Cathy.
00:53:32This is the hospital.
00:53:34We can't afford to take any chances.
00:53:38The moon has a strong effect on the Earth.
00:53:40Look what it can do to the tides.
00:53:44In Paul's case, it may trigger a whole set of changes.
00:53:47A temporary mutation.
00:53:48I want to see him.
00:53:50Now.
00:53:51Please.
00:53:52Please.
00:54:22Cathy.
00:54:23Cathy.
00:54:33Nearly sundown now.
00:54:35She shouldn't be in there much longer.
00:54:37All right.
00:54:38I'll get her.
00:54:41Cathy.
00:54:45Cathy.
00:54:52Thanks, Johnny.
00:54:57Can I take you home?
00:55:00No.
00:55:01Thank you anyway.
00:55:02No trouble, miss.
00:55:03One of my men can take you home.
00:55:06Thank you, Captain.
00:55:07I'll be all right.
00:55:08I'd like to stay here at the hospital.
00:55:22The moon is up now.
00:55:38I won't give a run.
00:55:41I don't.
00:55:42I hope you're wrong.
00:55:45Well, we'll know in a few minutes.
00:55:48Something's happening.
00:55:49Oh, my God.
00:55:50Oh, my God.
00:56:19Oh, my God.
00:56:28A a a a a a a a a ...
00:56:33Don't die.
00:56:34Oh, my God.
00:56:41Oh, my God.
00:56:44Oh, my God.
00:56:47Oh, my God.
00:56:48Then it's true! It was me! I killed all those people!
00:57:00Now, it wasn't your fault, son. They won't convict you. They won't even blame you once the people in those times.
00:57:06Soon I'll be back to Norman, Paul. Do I need these now?
00:57:12Norman.
00:57:14Dr. Sutton's been in touch with NASA about your case. They're sending one of their top lunar scientists and one of the finest brain surgeons in the country.
00:57:25See, that particle of meteor in the front part of your brain, it's causing the problem.
00:57:31When it's removed, you won't have a thing to worry about. You can go back to the Legion in your normal life.
00:57:38I'd like to see Kathy. Please.
00:57:44Kathy.
00:57:59Kathy.
00:58:00Kathy.
00:58:01Kathy.
00:58:02Kathy.
00:58:03Kathy.
00:58:04Kathy.
00:58:05Kathy.
00:58:06Kathy.
00:58:07Kathy.
00:58:08Kathy.
00:58:09Kathy.
00:58:10Kathy.
00:58:11Kathy.
00:58:12Kathy.
00:58:13Kathy.
00:58:14Kathy.
00:58:15Kathy.
00:58:16Kathy.
00:58:17Kathy.
00:58:18Kathy.
00:58:19Kathy.
00:58:20Kathy.
00:58:21Kathy.
00:58:22Kathy.
00:58:23Kathy.
00:58:24Kathy.
00:58:25Kathy.
00:58:26Kathy.
00:58:27Kathy.
00:58:28Kathy.
00:58:29Kathy.
00:58:30Kathy.
00:58:31Kathy.
00:58:32Kathy.
00:58:33Kathy.
00:58:34Kathy.
00:58:35Kathy.
00:58:36Kathy.
00:58:37Kathy.
00:58:38Kathy.
00:58:39Kathy.
00:58:40Kathy.
00:58:41Kathy.
00:58:42Kathy.
00:58:43Kathy.
00:58:44Kathy.
00:58:45Kathy.
00:58:46Kathy.
00:58:47Kathy.
00:58:48Kathy.
00:58:49Kathy.
00:58:50Kathy.
00:58:51Kathy.
00:58:52Kathy.
00:58:53Kathy.
00:58:54Kathy.
00:58:55Kathy.
00:58:56Kathy.
00:58:57Kathy.
00:58:58Kathy.
00:58:59Kathy.
00:59:00Kathy.
00:59:01Kathy.
00:59:02Kathy.
00:59:03Oh, Paul. This is Dr. Rizzo.
00:59:08How are you, Paul? I'm going to be operating on you in just a little while.
00:59:13Glad to see you. What happens now?
00:59:17We're going to make another set of X-rays just to check on the particle.
00:59:20The new set will give us an exact pinpointing of the spot in the left frontal lobe where it is.
00:59:33I thought you should see these right away, Doctor.
00:59:38I think we should look at these inside.
00:59:45What's the matter?
00:59:47I don't know, but I'll try to find out.
00:59:55If you look at the difference in the affected areas...
01:00:00...you'll notice considerable change, Doctor.
01:00:04There's been a definite growth.
01:00:07From the look of it, I'd say the particle in that young man's brain has disintegrated...
01:00:13...and energy factors are spreading through his entire system.
01:00:17No question about it.
01:00:21Isn't there any way of...
01:00:23...neutralizing the effect, Doctor?
01:00:27That's your field, Doctor Lawrence.
01:00:31Is there something that can be done?
01:00:34We're dealing with a brand new unstable element here.
01:00:38One we've never seen before.
01:00:40We don't know its characteristics, atomic structure...
01:00:44...how it reacts.
01:00:46There's a chance.
01:00:48There's always a chance.
01:00:50Eventually, by doing research on the meteorite fragments you showed me...
01:00:54...well, we might learn how to cure your friend.
01:00:59But the time...
01:01:01You're saying...
01:01:03...by then it could be too late.
01:01:05I can't give you the timing exactly...
01:01:07...but more or less what's going to happen...
01:01:09...is that the very presence of the moon itself...
01:01:12...a moon rock of gigantic size, if you will...
01:01:15...will have a recurring effect on your friend's mutation every night...
01:01:17...just as the energy emitted by that particle in his brain...
01:01:20...was triggered by the small moon rock at our exhibit here.
01:01:26Eventually, the diffusion throughout his body will be complete.
01:01:33And at that point...
01:01:36...the situation will be atomically unstable.
01:01:40Then...
01:01:43...the energy is released all at once.
01:01:48A form of explosion.
01:01:51Exactly.
01:01:52And when it happens...
01:01:54...your young friend will be...
01:01:56...consumed by it.
01:01:58I've got to talk to you now.
01:02:00Let's go.
01:02:05The demon in the tribal painting.
01:02:07Self-consumed.
01:02:14One Indian mystery...
01:02:16...solved.
01:02:21Oh, Pa, why couldn't there be time for us?
01:02:26There isn't.
01:02:29And that's why I'm going away.
01:02:31Now...
01:02:34...if I'm gonna die...
01:02:37...I want to die looking like a man.
01:02:41Not like a monster.
01:02:43Pa, don't.
01:03:00I need a few minutes.
01:03:01I've got to get away from here.
01:03:06Get away where?
01:03:10I don't know.
01:03:12But I can't stand being locked up here again.
01:03:19Will I see you again?
01:03:20I...
01:03:26I...
01:03:27I don't know.
01:03:35I want you to go back to Dr. Sutton's office.
01:03:37And if anybody asks...
01:03:42...where I am...
01:03:44...I want you to tell him I'm on the roof.
01:03:47That'll keep him busy enough for a few minutes.
01:03:50Long enough for me to...
01:03:52I won't do it.
01:03:54Kathy...
01:03:55Please.
01:03:58Please.
01:04:01Do it for my sake.
01:04:04Do it because we love each other.
01:04:12Oh, Pa.
01:04:14Oh, Pa.
01:04:16Why did this have to happen to you?
01:04:17What happened to you?
01:04:26It did happen.
01:04:29That's all I know.
01:04:47Toe.
01:04:48Toe.
01:04:50No, Pa.
01:04:51No...
01:04:53No...
01:04:54No.
01:04:56No.
01:04:58No.
01:05:04No.
01:05:09No...
01:05:11No pero...
01:05:13No...
01:05:15No.
01:05:16The best stunts I've ever seen.
01:05:23Does that kid think he can get away?
01:05:25He's not trying to get away.
01:05:30You don't understand.
01:05:33You just don't.
01:05:46Yes, sir. What can I do for you?
01:05:52I'd like a 12-gauge shotgun and some shots.
01:05:57Well, we have some very nice models that just came in.
01:06:00Very nice guns. I'll be glad to show you.
01:06:08Here's a description of the man being sought whose name is Paul G. Carlson.
01:06:12He's 24 years old, Caucasian, about 6 feet tall, weighing 160, brown hair, blue eyes, regular features.
01:06:24Carlson was last seen in the vicinity of St. Joseph Hospital.
01:06:28He's believed dressed in tan slacks and a blue sweater.
01:06:34We got a report on him.
01:06:36The owner of a gun shop says he tried to buy a shotgun, but left without it.
01:06:42I don't think he wants it as a weapon.
01:06:45He wants to kill himself.
01:06:48Why, Miss Nolan?
01:06:54Because we overheard what Dr. Lawrence said in the other office.
01:07:00That's why.
01:07:03You might be wrong, Mac.
01:07:05He's on a motorcycle. If he wanted to kill himself...
01:07:07No, no, no, no. Crashes don't always kill people. He knows that.
01:07:11Now, he tried to find some way that was fast and foolproof.
01:07:14All right. If only we had some kind of lead on him. Anything.
01:07:35Yeah, I'd like to come up here at night.
01:07:37It's one of my favorite places on earth.
01:07:40It's always so peaceful.
01:07:43So quiet.
01:07:51I can't stand us waiting around.
01:07:56I think it would be better if I went back to the reservation, don't you?
01:08:00I guess so.
01:08:01Well, how will you get back?
01:08:08I borrowed Bud's car.
01:08:12I'll phone you if we hear anything.
01:08:31You're on the phone.
01:08:50I'll phone you if you want.
01:08:58Thank you, Mr. Lawrence.
01:09:29They found the motorcycle.
01:09:41Where?
01:09:41Up in State Road 44.
01:09:43He took a spill.
01:09:45The bike is a wreck.
01:09:48But he'd probably walk away all right.
01:09:50They couldn't find him anywhere around the area.
01:09:53That road leads up to Santee Crest.
01:09:57Of course, that's got to be it.
01:09:59Over the years, I got to know Paul pretty well.
01:10:02The one place he went to when he was troubled,
01:10:05the one place where he felt free,
01:10:08was Santee Crest.
01:10:29All right, people.
01:10:41Get the Santee Crest.
01:10:42All right, people.
01:10:57Get the Santee Crest.
01:11:00Now, listen.
01:11:01I want him captured.
01:11:05But no gunplay.
01:11:09Unless it's absolutely necessary.
01:11:11We're up to the Santee Crest.
01:11:25We're up to the Santee Crest.
01:11:26We're down to the Santee Crest.
01:11:28Oh, Paul, for a minute I thought you were...
01:11:49I know what you intend to do, but you mustn't. Please, you can't.
01:12:01Kathy, I don't know how you thought me, but you've got to leave now.
01:12:07No, Paul, I want to be with you.
01:12:11You can't stay. The sun's going down.
01:12:17It'll be night soon if I don't reach the crest before the moon comes up.
01:12:27Then you can't stay.
01:12:36Then it'll be too late for the both of us.
01:12:47Any sight of a people?
01:12:57No, sir, but we'll keep checking the areas.
01:12:59Then you stay put. We'll check down the hill a little further.
01:13:03If anything happens, call me fast.
01:13:05Yes, sir.
01:13:07Let's go.
01:13:23Paul! Paul, help me! Paul! Paul, please!
01:13:31Help me! Help me!
01:13:37Help me!
01:13:39Oh, Paul! Paul!
01:13:43Paul, help me! Paul!
01:13:49Please, Paul, my foot is caught. Help me!
01:14:05Paul, help me!
01:14:08Please!
01:14:10Please!
01:14:11Help me!
01:14:12Help!
01:14:15Oh, my God.
01:14:45Oh, my God.
01:15:15Oh, my God.
01:15:45Oh, my God.
01:16:15Oh, my God.
01:16:17Oh, my God.
01:16:19Oh, my God.
01:16:21What happened?
01:16:24Where's...
01:16:25He got away.
01:16:27Two more men dead.
01:16:30Oh, my God.
01:16:31Oh, my God.
01:16:32Oh, my God.
01:16:34Oh, my God.
01:16:36It's too late, though.
01:16:38Not now.
01:16:39It's gotta be stopped before there's any more killing.
01:16:40Are you going to try and stop it with a bow and arrow?
01:16:54Not with just any arrow, Mac.
01:16:56I'm going to use this.
01:16:58That looks like a piece of meat of your palm head.
01:17:01It is.
01:17:03I've fashioned an arrowhead out of it.
01:17:06What are you going to do?
01:17:08Johnny, tell me!
01:17:12We're fighting something we barely understand, Kathy.
01:17:16The changes that are...
01:17:17A particle of matter from outer space is made in a human being.
01:17:21That's why I'm doing this.
01:17:23If a particle can generate all that energy,
01:17:26a larger piece from the same element might speed up the energy processes.
01:17:31Dr. Lawrence, Paul and I heard you in the hospital.
01:17:34You said Paul would become atomically unstable.
01:17:39That he would...
01:17:40It was always inevitable.
01:17:42This way it may happen a little sooner, that's all.
01:17:50Johnny, you can't do it!
01:17:52He's your friend, Paul!
01:17:53Paul is not Paul anymore!
01:17:56You've seen that.
01:17:58Kathy...
01:17:59He's not as you and I know him.
01:18:03Paul is gone.
01:18:05What you see in this place is nothing we know.
01:18:08Nothing human.
01:18:13No!
01:18:14That poor kid...
01:18:28He's had a rough time.
01:18:30He's still alive.
01:18:31He's still alive.
01:18:32Oh, my God.
01:19:02Oh, no.
