Tom McClintock Praises Cuts To 'Useless Grants' In Rescission Bill

00:09Thank you, Mr. Speaker.

00:11You know, we've had a great debate between deficits and taxes,

00:15but deficits and taxes are two sides of the same coin.

00:19To spend a dollar, you must either tax it now or borrow it now and tax it later.

00:25Taxes and deficits are both driven by spending.

00:29This bill rescinds some of the most stupid spending in the entire federal government.

00:35These are the kindest cuts of all, subsidies for state media

00:39and grants to corrupt NGOs for outrageous leftist foreign propaganda.

00:45Now, $9 billion comes to about $70 for an average American family.

00:52Now, do you think they'd prefer to spend that $70 on a new pair of shoes for their child

00:57or for, quote, girl-centric climate change programs in Brazil?

01:03That's the choice.

01:05Congress squanders hundreds of billions of dollars annually on destructive subsidies

01:10and useless grants like these.

01:13Let us finally take this first small step toward the solvency of our nation,

01:18relief for our people, and redemption for our Congress.
