Cain Byrne: Jail for 'cowardly' killer driver

00:00I'm Detective Chief Inspector Tom McGraw with South Roach of Mullies, the Senior Investigating Officer of the Caves.

00:06Earlier this year, on the 4th of April, Cain Burns' actions were killed for insular.

00:12He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and human spirit.

00:18The cowardly actions of Cain Burns was an extremely tragic event that shook the county.

00:23To drive on a motor vehicle on a road is a privilege and one of great responsibility.

00:28Cain Burns showed no care or respect for his responsibility, the law or other members of the public.

00:36He drove extremely dangerous for, with no insurance and as a disqualified driver.

00:42Officers from the Major Crime Unit and the Serious Physiaries Unit worked tirelessly together to secure justice for Graham.

00:49Cain Burns' behaviour did not be tolerated on the roads to South Yorkshire and he will now face a lengthy prison sentence.

00:55At the heart of our investigation was Graham and Stalberg and I hope that today the sentence brings them some measure,

01:02but closure and our thoughts will remain with them.

01:06I would like to thank the public for their help during this challenging case.

01:13We in South Yorkshire Police are working hard to reduce casualties on the roads of South Yorkshire

01:20through education, prevention and deterring criminals from using the road networks to make them a safer place for everyone.

01:29Today should be a strong message.

01:31For those that take risks, we will take action and put you before the courts.

01:38Well, we'd just like to say that it's clear from the sentence that's being passed

01:45that the judge and the justice system value my dad's life.

01:52Nothing that anybody does, no sentence that anybody serves, will ever bring you back.

01:57Of course it won't, but it does mean that somebody who's a danger to the public

02:02is not a danger to the public for some considerable time.

02:07We really, really want to thank the police and everybody involved

02:12for their care and compassion and patience and their diligence and their hard work.

02:20We felt really supported through the whole horrible process.

02:27The people that we really, really want to thank

02:30are the people who stopped and did stop at the scene

02:34and tried to help my dad

02:36and to the person who stayed with my dad

02:39until his very, very end.
