Copenhagen’s Old Stock Exchange building caught fire on Tuesday, and citizens in the area helped rescue priceless works of art from the blaze. Veuer’s Matt Hoffman has the story.

00:04This is Copenhagen's Old Stock Exchange building during a 2021 light festival.

00:09And this is the building yesterday after it caught on fire in a blaze that drew

00:13comparisons to the burning of Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral in 2019.

00:17The Old Stock Exchange contained many valuable works of art.

00:20People in the area joined together to save as much of it as they could.

00:24Even Danish Chamber of Commerce CEO Brian Mickelson lent a hand.

00:28Klaav Zlachwa arrived on the scene because he had to move his car which was parked nearby.

00:32He says he ended up salvaging a painting by 16th century artist Albrecht Dürer.

00:37That was such a touching moment to hold Danish national history in your hands and

00:44and to grasp the seriousness of this terrible, terrible fire.

00:53The cause of the fire is unknown but fortunately no injuries have been reported.
