00:01:00Sky Intrepid Heroes!
00:01:02Sky Intrepid Heroes!
00:01:04Or should I say Sky Intrepid Heroes?
00:01:07Damn, damn, damn.
00:01:09I heard Murph rehearsing that in the parking lot.
00:01:12He said it in the car the entire way.
00:01:15I just want to be clear, I'm Murph this season. Murph is whoever Murph decides Murph wants to be.
00:01:20Well, I'm the guy who does it.
00:01:23I'm Murph, dude.
00:01:24I'm Brian, I do poems.
00:01:27I'm the sky guy.
00:01:29For the love of God, Murph, go back to being Murph, alright?
00:01:33I relinquish you.
00:01:36We return for another thrilling season of Dimension 20 to a brand new, never before seen world.
00:01:43The world of Gath, a world of high-flying stunts and wild adventure into parts unknown, chasing that courage at the horizon's edge.
00:01:55It's Cloudward Ho! We're doing steampunk!
00:01:59Or adventure!
00:02:02Or adventure!
00:02:03Cloudward Ho!
00:02:05Cloudward Ho!
00:02:06Cloudward Comet!
00:02:07Cloudward Comet!
00:02:08Cloudward Comet!
00:02:09You gotta give Bridgman something for the vertical.
00:02:12I bring you now to the world of Gath, a world of machining wonder and machining peril.
00:02:24A world of innovation, technology and progress. Progress with a sort of, you know, this kind of theme.
00:02:31Yeah, dude.
00:02:33And you see before you, though, a flickering, a film going past.
00:02:40And before you, you see...
00:02:42Coming out live, this is coming to you live, coming to you live now from Hicklebottom Ridge in New Pilby.
00:02:46For all those folks at home, welcome to a newsreel bringing you to the flight of the Zephyr.
00:02:51That theme dirigible created by the one, the only, Professor Comfrey McLeod.
00:02:58We see a gorgeous, daring adventurer, a 60-year-old, experienced veteran wind rider, Professor Comfrey McLeod.
00:03:08The inventor of the world's first normal air balloon.
00:03:13A balloon that freezes the air around the outside of the balloon, creating normal air much hotter by comparison to the cold air around it.
00:03:23Creating freeodynamic lift. Flickering through the newsreel, Comfrey looks directly to the camera.
00:03:29Welcome, all you watching at home, to the Hotel Ipswich, where we're having our annual meeting of the Windrider Society.
00:03:35Those daring aeronauts that have the grit it takes to jump into the sky itself and seek adventure.
00:03:41Oh, and what's this coming over the horizon? Why, it's none other than the ship's bosun, Van Chapman!
00:03:46Siobhan, please describe your character appearing in the newsreel.
00:03:49Hello, my name is Van Chapman. I'm six foot tall and absolutely rippling with very real, very strong muscles.
00:03:59I come from an old sailing family and you can smell it in my breath.
00:04:05Yeah, I do.
00:04:06Van Chapman's been flying with the professor since her very first flight, all the way back in her kitchen, when first freeodynamic lift was invented.
00:04:14Say there, Van, what separates a sailor from a landlub?
00:04:18Oh, bravery, panache, a certain je ne sais quoi.
00:04:23Je ne sais quoi, you heard it here first, folks. And what do we got ready to go off the gangplank?
00:04:28What sort of stores and provisions can your fine sky sailor be looking for?
00:04:32Oh, we got biscuits, we got dry tank, we got jerky, we got those tiny little dried fruits that nobody likes.
00:04:41You see the camera pans as slowly as an old-timey camera can to a crew that says,
00:04:47Hooray, fruit snacks!
00:04:50And who's this bounding over the bridge of this skyward vessel?
00:04:55Why, it's none other than the kid herself, Marya Yankova!
00:05:00Emily, who do we see bounding across the bridge of the Zephyr?
00:05:02Marya Yankova is wearing a beautiful silk pirate shirt with a tactical corset, and she is the youngest girl on the ship!
00:05:11And she is from Scrap-Sylvania, a little island of scrap metal in the ocean, but right now she lives in the sky.
00:05:19You see that Comfrey comes across the deck and says,
00:05:22Look alive, kid!
00:05:23And tosses you a big rolled-up map of different sky currents of Star Trek.
00:05:27I take out my blunderbuss and shoot it.
00:05:30Holy moly! Looks like we're gonna have to wing this one!
00:05:37You see, he looks over and says,
00:05:39Marya, tell something to the camera.
00:05:41Is it true that you're the youngest pilot in Windrider Society history?
00:05:45It is not only true, it is also hard to believe.
00:05:49And I wink with both eyes, and then I try to shoot the camera with a gun.
00:05:54Get out of here, spy!
00:05:56You see Comfrey goes,
00:05:58They're not spies, they're reporters!
00:06:01They're journalists, kid!
00:06:03And you see, she looks over and says,
00:06:05Sorry about that, looks like the kid blew the leg off your tripod, aye-yi-yi!
00:06:09And she comes over to the reporter and says,
00:06:11Now that kid is the scrappiest kid from Scrapsylvania I've ever met, and that's saying more than one thing!
00:06:16What did you say about me?!
00:06:18Make my day!
00:06:20Pow!
00:06:21And she blasts the button and busts out of here!
00:06:23And you see one of the reporters off the thing just goes,
00:06:27Good God!
00:06:28You see that the newsreel reporter turns over and says,
00:06:32For Ports Unknown, it's important to have someone that can get you through the bad and the good,
00:06:37through the city landscapes that are choked by smog, a wonderful smog of industry!
00:06:43We love the smog!
00:06:44And also, through Wilderness Unknown, that's where we meet Montgomery LaMontgomery!
00:06:51Lou, please describe your character for us.
00:06:53A young man, broad-shouldered, big chest, just a mustache at this time, and a small afro,
00:07:01with like the bone of some kind of animal just dragging a large bowie knife across it.
00:07:07What'd you say there?
00:07:09So he says,
00:07:10Montgomery LaMontgomery, they say you're a regular mountain man!
00:07:14A fellow who knows the wilderness, a ranger and expert guide through lands unknown!
00:07:20Every man is a mountain man.
00:07:22If he only asks himself, from whence he came?
00:07:26He exists within everyone.
00:07:28You, me, everyone at home.
00:07:31But should they ask of themselves to return to where they were truly born,
00:07:36they will know Gath and her name.
00:07:40Wow!
00:07:41And he looks over and you see the cameraman is sobbing hard.
00:07:48You see the reporter says,
00:07:50Move to the camera, follow, follow the action!
00:07:53I can't, I can't.
00:07:55And you see an enormous moose comes out of the ocean, approaching the ship.
00:08:01And you see, he goes,
00:08:03My God! Are moose, are moose even native to this region?
00:08:06Where's this creature coming from?
00:08:07Clive!
00:08:13Clive, it's good to see you.
00:08:15You see, he says,
00:08:16Montgomery, you know this beast?
00:08:18Very well.
00:08:19You see Clive comes up to you, bows his head, and in bowing his head,
00:08:23communicates some secret missive to you that only you hear in this moment.
00:08:26Mr. LaMontgomery, there's a rumor that you can speak to beasts.
00:08:30Is it true?
00:08:31What's Clive telling you?
00:08:33What was he doing in the ocean?
00:08:34This is, I mean, that's far out ocean.
00:08:37We're not even near an island.
00:08:40I don't know.
00:08:41It's just a moose.
00:08:43You see?
00:08:44Speak to beast?
00:08:45That's not something I can do.
00:08:47Oh, very well.
00:08:49Well, that's just a man.
00:08:54It will be done, Clive.
00:08:56You see, Clive returns to the ocean from whence he came.
00:08:59And you see, it looks over and says,
00:09:02Well, as daring as that is, wherever daring goes, danger is sure to follow.
00:09:08And that's where we meet, perhaps, the most wanted man in Pilby.
00:09:13Daisuke Bucklesby.
00:09:15And the camera moves over.
00:09:17Zach, please describe your character for us.
00:09:19I guess they're just hanging off the side of the ship.
00:09:22Drinking a little flask of whiskey.
00:09:24Noticing the camera, just realizing he might get in trouble, goes,
00:09:28Whoops.
00:09:29Drops it.
00:09:31Drops it off the side.
00:09:33Clive!
00:09:34Ow!
00:09:35You see the reporter looks over and says,
00:09:36Mr. Bucklesby, you found yourself in the honest employ of Professor McCloud.
00:09:42Rumor has it that there may be a little bit of a sky romance unfolding on the ship.
00:09:47And you see that Comfrey walks over and cocks her head, looking at you.
00:09:50Hey, I don't kiss and tell, baby.
00:09:54You see, Comfrey looks at the camera and says,
00:09:56What'd you call him?
00:09:57The most wanted man in Pilby?
00:09:59I'll say, meow.
00:10:02Is that his shirt just does that thing like a cartoon?
00:10:07Excuse me.
00:10:09Looking over at you and saying,
00:10:11After a life as a notorious outlaw,
00:10:13Is there anything that troubles you about the work of scientists and academics?
00:10:18Seems like a strange bridge between the element of those who have engaged in dangerous activity
00:10:25and those that would seek to further academic exploration and insight.
00:10:30Have you truly put your wild ways behind you, Mr. Bucklesby?
00:10:33I would say that in many ways I am very reformed.
00:10:36Right now, I'm just here on the ship, experiencing life as it comes at me.
00:10:41And maybe I'll learn a thing or two.
00:10:44You see that Comfrey elbows you and smiles, looks at the camera and says,
00:10:48Besides, when you've broken the law of gravity, what's a little misdemeanor between friends?
00:10:54I shoot the other leg off the camera.
00:10:57You got the spy!
00:11:00Spy?
00:11:01That's right, this crew of daredevil windriders will soon take to the sky for ports unknown
00:11:05and Professor Comfrey McCloud's latest expedition off into the uncharted sky.
00:11:10And for those of you watching, all of these various adventurers and windriders,
00:11:14Honch Saxon, Silvio Dufresne!
00:11:17You see a man with a sort of like wicked mustache and enormous rifle goes,
00:11:22I'm Silvio Dufresne.
00:11:25And you see that the camera whips away from him after saying that one thing.
00:11:28And you see he goes, says,
00:11:31All of this made possible by a generous donation from the Gotch family foundation,
00:11:36that old eccentric and mastermind benefactor, Cad Switch Gotch!
00:11:41And turns to Comfrey shaking hands with this very eccentric looking epauletted banker,
00:11:47enormous like multi-pronged mustache looking out and saying,
00:11:50Cad Switch Gotch!
00:11:52The Gotch family for time immemorial has been more than happy to bankroll the eccentric,
00:11:59ill-advised and unusual, and I couldn't be more proud to be here for another launch day with my-
00:12:04Oh, Maxwell, come back here!
00:12:06Murph, please describe your character.
00:12:07You see a little boy in a perfect three-piece suit with a perfect middle part,
00:12:15kind of wears similar to like what his grandfather's wearing,
00:12:19and just walks up and goes,
00:12:21Everyone here works for my grandfather.
00:12:23You see, he looks at, your grandfather kneels and says,
00:12:28Works with your grandfather, young Maxwell.
00:12:31It is an honor and a privilege for us to fund these adventures.
00:12:36All of these people will change the world forever while we stay on the ground.
00:12:42We will not go on the adventure.
00:12:45We will stay on the ground.
00:12:47And our joy comes from bankrolling the adventure and funding the adventure.
00:12:54And that is the joy of the Gotch family.
00:12:57Do you understand?
00:12:59Lad, jump on my back and I'll show you the balloons!
00:13:01I'm supposed to stay on the ground, I've been told.
00:13:04My boy Maxwell is as obedient as he is with dressed!
00:13:11You see that Comfrey looks out, you see that she says,
00:13:14And you going on this fabulous expedition aboard this effort!
00:13:17Your ship of legend!
00:13:19Has that changed at all now that you are in fact,
00:13:22and you don't have to tell us your age, a grandmother?
00:13:25And you see Comfrey goes,
00:13:27I do this not only for myself, my crew and my children,
00:13:32but now for my beautiful grandchild.
00:13:35Ally, please describe your character who is currently swaddled.
00:13:39Oh my gosh!
00:13:41I'm a little baby.
00:13:42Little baby.
00:13:44Little baby.
00:13:46There's so many kinds!
00:13:48How bright red are you?
00:13:50What are you into?
00:13:52Bright red, and I'm just chilling, I'm one of the chill babies.
00:13:55What are you eating these days?
00:13:57Milk.
00:13:59Comfrey looks at you and says,
00:14:01Oh, my sweet little baby.
00:14:04One day you two will take to the sky.
00:14:07I start pissing up into the air.
00:14:08Hey-o!
00:14:11Cloudward bound already!
00:14:13Hey-o!
00:14:14And I'm laughing while pissing, flying up into the air.
00:14:17And you say, as you piss all over the ship, you say that Comfrey says,
00:14:22You know, we never did have the ship formally baptized.
00:14:25There you go, kiddo.
00:14:26And looking out, the newsreel sort of concludes as the crew gathers on the deck of the ship for a big photo.
00:14:32One of those light bulb exploding photos.
00:14:35And the newsreel looks over and says,
00:14:38Well, with another daring expedition in hand, is it true Professor McCloud?
00:14:42Would you say that as far as this goes and your fantastic crew that the sky's the limit?
00:14:46She looks and says,
00:14:47The limit?
00:14:49The sky's just the beginning.
00:14:51And we fade from the newsreel to the drawing room of the Gotch family manor.
00:15:01As a 29-year-old Maxwell Gotch, along with the rest of his six brothers and his father, behold Oroboros Codswallop, your family's personal accountant.
00:15:14The Gotch family is ruined.
00:15:19Utterly ruined.
00:15:23Utterly devastated.
00:15:26Financial.
00:15:28Let me speak more surgically.
00:15:32A fiduciary apocalypse has occurred.
00:15:38I know you're not a doctor, but do you need some kind of bedside manner or something?
00:15:42What are the numbers?
00:15:45What's the numbers?
00:15:47Bad. Top to bottom.
00:15:49Tip to top.
00:15:50Bad, bad, bad.
00:15:51I will go over Professor McCloud under the best of conditions at the height of the Windrider Society.
00:16:01And underneath we see that indeed more than 20 years has passed.
00:16:03A little date goes up on the bottom.
00:16:05The year in that newsreel was 1363, and this is 1382 in the world of Gath.
00:16:16You see that Codswallop says,
00:16:20Professor McCloud, at the height of her acumen and power, was at best a roll of the dice.
00:16:28Her expeditions was often ended in flammable explosions or perhaps advancements in the name of science that were impossible or challenging to monetize your late grandfather.
00:16:43Saw fit to invest heavily in Professor McCloud, who, over the past 10 years, was seen to frequent opium dens with idle aristocrats.
00:16:55Fancifully wondering aloud as to the existence of the fabled continent of Zood, which your grandfather saw fit to bagel numerous expeditions in search of this lost and fabled continent, all of which came up bust, kablooey.
00:17:16Croupier extends the wand and pulls the chips in.
00:17:20Short to say, you gotches.
00:17:23Short to say.
00:17:25You gotches have got one right in the gooch, is what I would say.
00:17:31You see, your father sort of steeples his fingers, looking out over the family that is gathered here.
00:17:43A severe and stern man, your father Longspot Gotch, looks out and says,
00:17:50My father was ever a whimsical, dreamy type.
00:17:58He believed that the role of the Gotch family was to invest in a hundred different eccentrics, seeing their art and science made, if it was never profitable, at least advancing the human project.
00:18:17However, on that hundred, perhaps some moonshot project would see the family not completely ruined.
00:18:26That, however, is not the path of fiduciary responsibility.
00:18:31I have seen fit to put all seven of my sons through expensive private universities.
00:18:39And as such, more reasonable and pragmatic endeavors have been my role to invest in.
00:18:48You know, property and slow accruing interest yielding over financial...
00:18:54What's that, Max?
00:18:56If I could, if I might, slow accruing interest, I would say we don't know what happened to Professor McCloud, so I would say the trip to Zood was not necessarily a bust.
00:19:16It, uh, perhaps, uh, we can think of it as an investment.
00:19:19Mr. Codswallop looks out and says,
00:19:22What?
00:19:23It is, on an insurance level, a total loss.
00:19:28And it seems highly likely that Professor McCloud, for all legal purposes, is missing presumed debt.
00:19:38And all that remains to do now, as the end of the fiscal year approaches, is to try to limit the loss as much as possible.
00:19:49Professor McCloud is, in all likelihood, dead.
00:19:53And unless we find a way to trawl the ocean for her body...
00:19:57Father, that isn't interesting. We could search the ocean for her.
00:20:01You see, he looks and says,
00:20:03Mr. Codswallop, how much would it cost to trawl the ocean?
00:20:06Oh dear, shh.
00:20:08Conservative.
00:20:09A light troll.
00:20:10Not the whole ocean.
00:20:11We can look at where we think Zood might be, Father.
00:20:14You don't have to do this in front of Codswallop again.
00:20:17You see, your brother Hatwell turns to you and says,
00:20:21and says,
00:20:23Look for Zood?
00:20:24I think we're trying to look for Comfrey, aren't we, Maxwell?
00:20:27Or do you fancy yourself an aeronaut?
00:20:31Do you fancy yourself an adventurer?
00:20:33Well, if the professor hasn't come back yet, I would assume that she's in Zood.
00:20:38So, two birds, one stone.
00:20:40You'd assume she's in Zood rather than dead, after all the other expeditions.
00:20:46Shut up, Hatwell. You have a stupid name.
00:20:51And he points and looks at his father.
00:20:54And you see that your father says,
00:20:55Don't call Hatwell's name stupid.
00:20:58Your name's Maxwell.
00:20:59That's two letters from Hatwell.
00:21:02That's so close to happening.
00:21:04You would think Hatwell would be the seventh, but Maxwell is somehow at the end of the line.
00:21:10You see that your father says, Maxwell, you are my seventh son.
00:21:14And I have seen fit to send all of you to prestigious private universities.
00:21:21And yet I'm the only one with intellectual curiosity.
00:21:25You're also the only one with strange bruises on your knuckles.
00:21:29What are you doing at Revington?
00:21:31What are you doing, Maxwell?
00:21:32Are you studying?
00:21:33It's athletics, father.
00:21:35Sort of athletics that leaves scabs on your knuckles.
00:21:40I think that you've been dawdling and lollygagging and I think you're a rowdy.
00:21:45I think you're being a rowdy.
00:21:46How dare you?
00:21:47A rowdy?
00:21:48You see that your oldest brother, Samwell, looks at your father and says,
00:21:53Don't call him a rowdy, father.
00:21:56Not a rowdy.
00:21:58Samwell's always so reasonable.
00:22:01I hold my hands out like I'm gonna take my gloves off.
00:22:05And then I think better of it.
00:22:06You're not worth it, father.
00:22:09You see, Ouroboros, Coswell says,
00:22:13Holy moly.
00:22:16I almost called me rowdy.
00:22:19Look, rowdy or otherwise, the God family is in extreme financial jeopardy.
00:22:27Multiple, multiple loans and grants and financial instruments were leveraged to finance the presumably lake.
00:22:35I mean, really, probably very late Professor McCloud.
00:22:39However, all of this is collateral, but it must be reclaimed.
00:22:44Professor McCloud had laboratories full of research, all of which can be auctioned to help mitigate the loss.
00:22:50There are a number of important places to go to.
00:22:53And you see that he begins to go through different laboratories and places that McCloud's research could basically be repossessed by your family.
00:22:59And you see your father says,
00:23:01At the very least, we can always sell the original Zephyr.
00:23:07It's obsolete at this point, but perhaps as an item of sentimentality, are there collectors that think a relic of a bygone-
00:23:14Us? Father? Us?
00:23:17Maxwell?
00:23:18We would be sentimental to us. Our father put our name in the sky.
00:23:22You see, he says,
00:23:24And how much can you get for having your name in the sky, Maxwell?
00:23:30How much can you take out? Can I go to the bank?
00:23:32Can I go to the Bankers Guild of the Confederated Imperial Republic and say,
00:23:37Isn't it lovely that my family put our name in the sky?
00:23:43That and an imperial mark can get you a ride on the smog train, okay?
00:23:50I don't think so.
00:23:52I've had quite enough out of you, Maxwell.
00:23:54Look, we're going to sell the original Zephyr.
00:23:58It's an old hunk of junk anyway. McCloud hadn't flown it in years.
00:24:01And I'm going to need all of you to go to these and reclaim it.
00:24:04As he goes over with Ouroboros all the different locations that have reclaimable material goods that you can go get to help mitigate this enormous loss,
00:24:16as you're looking out, go ahead and give me an investigation check or perception.
00:24:20Okay, cool.
00:24:22We both are about great.
00:24:24Nat 20.
00:24:26Nat fucking 20!
00:24:28First roll!
00:24:29First fucking roll!
00:24:30Brand new Murph.
00:24:31Brand new Murph.
00:24:32It's all new.
00:24:33Guaranteed.
00:24:34Nat rolling.
00:24:35Nat 20.
00:24:36Nat's rolling bad, but Brian's rolling good.
00:24:37Here it is.
00:24:38Oh my God, Brian's rolling so well.
00:24:39No, he's back to being close.
00:24:40I'm going to leave if we keep calling him the B word.
00:24:43So you look on a nat 20.
00:24:48I'm going to give you more than I even add in this scene.
00:24:50Wow.
00:24:51Wow.
00:24:52You look and see something that everyone else in your family has missed because unlike your grandfather, they are not true believers.
00:25:02How well you fool.
00:25:03You see that document of all the various deeds and belongings, you see there is a very small dog-eared like coffee cup ring stained deed that looks like a small farm.
00:25:21And it doesn't appear to have any scientific stuff in it, so your family's not spending a lot of time.
00:25:26As your father is sort of assigning brothers to go out and like, he's like, Samuel, you shall go to her main laboratory in Eisengeist.
00:25:36In the Cabillion Isles, I believe she also had a small research lab.
00:25:41And I think, Hatwell, you would do, on that document, in the coffee stain is a small little mark that looks like it's almost part of the coffee stain, but you recognize it as part of the Windriders Society Cog Scout Club.
00:25:59From childhood, you had like a little decoder ring.
00:26:01Yeah.
00:26:02There's a symbol on it that means there's invisible ink on there.
00:26:05Oh.
00:26:06There is also the business of the McLeod family farm, which is located in Pilby.
00:26:12It is actually the domicile of Hutch McLeod, the son of the professor.
00:26:21But I believe there's no scientific business there.
00:26:25Hutch and his wife, Artemisia, live there.
00:26:28And you see that your father says, yes, Hutch.
00:26:32I believe he's estranged.
00:26:33He lives there with his wife and son.
00:26:35And you see that Ouroboros Codswallop says, daughter, Comfrey's granddaughter.
00:26:41And you see that your father says, oh, very well.
00:26:43Congratulations to the emulator.
00:26:45And you see that Codswallop looks over and says, they're on the farm.
00:26:51I believe technically you can repossess it.
00:26:55They are Pilbyan sovereign citizens.
00:26:59They are of a political ideology ascribed to the notion that laws can only be created by individuals.
00:27:08And that any consensus form of lawmaking is de facto tyranny.
00:27:14They are well armed, extremely loud, and very opinionated.
00:27:22So then we'll leave them be.
00:27:24You see your father says, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.
00:27:28Or perhaps you can go and repossess them with your-
00:27:32You would turn your son into a repo man?
00:27:34I have turned all my sons into repo men.
00:27:36It is the highest blessing I have bestowed on my seven beautiful boys.
00:27:42My seven boys whose names all end in well.
00:27:46I punch Hatwell.
00:27:48Hatwell goes, no!
00:27:50It flies off his chair.
00:27:51You see Samwell goes, Max.
00:27:54Sorry, Samwell.
00:27:55Let's be reasonable.
00:27:56It's always so reasonable.
00:27:58You see your father says, Samwell, Blainewell, Roywell, Hatwell, Wheelwell, Johnwell.
00:28:03Wheelwell.
00:28:04I was going after Hatwell when Wheelwell was-
00:28:08Wheelwell's solid.
00:28:09You see, Wheelwell says, I'm going to the South Pole.
00:28:14So solid.
00:28:15So many rich voices.
00:28:20Wheelwell's fun.
00:28:21Leave him alone.
00:28:22You see your father says, yes, I think that we'll get Captain Daughterdale to acquire a Karakamachi blimp.
00:28:31And I think you'll be going to Pilby to pay the McClouds Jr. a little visit.
00:28:38And maybe then you can learn something about Shiloh.
00:28:41Well, you know.
00:28:42Maybe then you can learn something about Shiloh.
00:28:44Well, you know.
00:28:45Maybe then you can learn something about Shiloh.
00:28:46Or I can go to Revington and see how much of a rowdy you've been.
00:28:50Don't call me rowdy!
00:28:52You see that Samwell gets up and says, don't call him a rowdy again!
00:28:56And starts crying.
00:28:58So reasonable and you've made him cry.
00:29:02Samwell, I apologize.
00:29:05In my distasteful rowdiness, I fear I have become rowdy.
00:29:11You know what?
00:29:12I am a rowdy.
00:29:14I think we could all afford to be a little bit more rowdy around here.
00:29:19Wheelwell barfs.
00:29:21I'm sorry, Wheelwell.
00:29:23I can't.
00:29:24I feel sick.
00:29:25I can't go to this house.
00:29:26No!
00:29:29That's fine.
00:29:30Wheelwell, you can row with me.
00:29:32You see, Wheelwell says, okay.
00:29:35I'll come with you.
00:29:37Good.
00:29:39You see that your father says, see to it that you take that farm off their hands.
00:29:47Let them know that we're coming to repossess everything.
00:29:51I'll squeeze every penny out of the late McLeod if I have to, to get this family back in the black.
00:30:01As you wish, father.
00:30:03He hands you that little coffee-stained deed to the McLeod farm in Pilby with that little symbol that only you saw on a nat 20.
00:30:12You see that Oroboros stands up, looks out.
00:30:15He looks over at you, Maxwell, nods and says, all the best to you, young Maxwell.
00:30:20He looks to your father and says, we should speak.
00:30:23These financial instruments must be leveraged soon.
00:30:26We've had a missive from the Ministry of Deranged Science.
00:30:31Lord Kensington Cosgrove Murdershire is looking for a closure on the deed.
00:30:36And you see, he says, Murdershire?
00:30:38That devil?
00:30:39Is he working with McLeod at the end?
00:30:41I'm afraid he was.
00:30:43Talk about a rowdy.
00:30:44That guy gives me the heebie-jeebies.
00:30:47And they walk off and we emerge from the Gotch Manor headed towards Pilby.
00:30:56Murph, on your route to Pilby, is there anything you do?
00:31:00You have a Gotch family kind of courier crew.
00:31:03These are technically aeronauts, but the age of the Windriders has faded in the world of Gath.
00:31:11These are people trained with established maps of sky currents that know how to make commercial runs and corporate zeppelins.
00:31:21You know, with all of the whimsy of routine stops, the sky ports towering over warehouses and places of business.
00:31:32Is there anything you do traveling?
00:31:34And I assume Wheelwell comes with you.
00:31:36Wheelwell can come, yes.
00:31:38Wheelwell will come, of course.
00:31:39Wheelwell can come.
00:31:41I guess, is there like a captain of the...
00:31:45Captain Miriam Daughterdale, a square-jawed woman with a tight bun, a company uniform of the Karakamachi Blimp Company.
00:31:55You see that Captain Daughterdale comes up and says,
00:31:58Master Gotch, pleasure?
00:32:01Captain, we'll be heading to the McLeod Farm.
00:32:06My father insisted that we take the Zephyr.
00:32:09The Zephyr?
00:32:11Not...
00:32:12Yes.
00:32:13We've been told to acquire a Karakamachi Blimp.
00:32:15Really?
00:32:16Wheelwell?
00:32:17Back me up here.
00:32:18You heard...
00:32:19Give me a persuasion to get Wheelwell on your side.
00:32:21Come on.
00:32:22I have a plus seven.
00:32:23Theoretically, I shouldn't even go...
00:32:25We'll call it 20.
00:32:26DC 20 gets Wheelwell on board.
00:32:28Never should have said you are rowdy.
00:32:2921!
00:32:30You see, Wheelwell says...
00:32:33Wheelwell says,
00:32:35I'm sorry, Captain Daughterdale.
00:32:38It's been a bit of a mix-em-up.
00:32:40I was supposed to go to the South Pole in the Zephyr,
00:32:43and then I got sick in the drawing.
00:32:46So now we're taking the Zephyr to kill me.
00:32:49I can just tell he's so hot.
00:32:51Wheelwell is so solid.
00:32:53He's got...
00:32:54So solid, Wheelwell.
00:32:57Crusted.
00:32:58You see that the captain says,
00:32:59Very well.
00:33:00We'll try to get the Zephyr Sky with you as fast as possible.
00:33:03May I say, it's actually quite an honor.
00:33:06All of us on the crew, the Gotch family couriers,
00:33:10we're all enormous fans of the Gotch family legacy,
00:33:14and to fly the Zephyr would be a dream come true.
00:33:17So I'm glad to hear you.
00:33:18Good. Yes.
00:33:19What if we get a bit rowdy, huh?
00:33:21What?
00:33:22Let's get a bit rowdy.
00:33:23That's all right.
00:33:28It's all right.
00:33:29It's all right.
00:33:30Oh my god.
00:33:32Wheelwell goes,
00:33:33What biological function was that?
00:33:36What happened in her body?
00:33:40And you see that you head to the Zephyr,
00:33:43which is like fully dry docked,
00:33:45and you can see all these things are like stickered on it
00:33:48for like sail and all the things.
00:33:50Start ripping them down.
00:33:52And yeah, we see the Zephyr, this gorgeous,
00:33:56it is a piece of living history, still sky worthy.
00:33:59The Zephyr bears the marks of its own history.
00:34:02What started as one of the very first flying vessels,
00:34:06only three years after the initial test of freodynamic lift,
00:34:10is the ship of adventure, that ship that as a nine-year-old
00:34:14you watch take to the sky with legends like Van Chapman
00:34:18and Monty Lamont Gummery,
00:34:20Maria Yonkova,
00:34:22and Dyskay fucking Bucklesby,
00:34:24all the crew,
00:34:25the original Windriders.
00:34:28Now you get you and Wheelwell.
00:34:31I hesitantly step on the ship knowing that I'm technically supposed to stay on the ground.
00:34:41Oh.
00:34:43All right.
00:34:44All right.
00:34:45Sky sailors, quicks the word and sharps the action,
00:34:46let's get the Zephyr in the air.
00:34:48We'll be in Pilby before tomorrow night, Master Gotch.
00:34:51And with that, you take to the sky,
00:34:54and we see sandy red ravines and a tumbleweed,
00:35:01tumbling past another tumbleweed, chasing a smaller tumbleweed,
00:35:06as they move through the rocky canyons and up on a fairy chimney.
00:35:10I'd love, Allie, for you to go ahead and describe,
00:35:13Alethra McCloud
00:35:16Yes.
00:35:17Alethra McCloud is a 20-year old girl.
00:35:21She's very like clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose, corn fed.
00:35:29She's extremely into the adventuring legacy of her family but in this way where
00:35:36when you have like a wild grandma, you have a really like straight laced dad.
00:35:42Like, it, like, skips a generation, so it's like, my grandma was totally crazy, but my parents are all about safety, all about security, and I am just, like, desperate for more little tidbits, and I cannot believe that I got to live that life, but I was just a baby, so I don't have any of the memories.
00:36:00You are up at the top of a little ramshackle shed on top of a fairy chimney, which is one of those stone stacks. Your farm is in the lee of this massive, like, ravine wall, because it's too dusty and dry up top, but here in the gulch, there's, like, a little stream and water, and you can kind of grow things down here. There's, like, a weird little weather vane. It's very rusty folk science out here, way out in the desert.
00:36:29Walking through, a man with an enormous beard, saucepan helmet, like, one strap of an overall comes out. This is your father, Hutch McLeod.
00:36:38Elefra, you let the guinea fowl out of the hutch, or you're freedom here.
00:36:44Shit. I kind of, I was, like, whittling little pieces for this kind of, like, hut that I like to hang out in, and I get out. I live in this big mech suit.
00:36:57I have kind of almost like a tree house in this, like, old mech, and I come out, and I'm like, ah, sorry, dad, sorry.
00:37:04Are you fiddling with that old hunk of junk up there?
00:37:08Yes. Yeah, it's nothing, though. I'll, sorry, I'll gather all the guinea fowl, and I grab a big lasso.
00:37:15Yes. Yes. All right, that thing stinks more than a prospect of britches. I don't want you messing with that. Go ahead and get his guinea fowl.
00:37:25You hear an enormous roar, and an eight-foot-tall guinea fowl, like, comes roaring ostrich-sized.
00:37:33All right, you know how it works. Get the alpha and get him back in there.
00:37:38I always go for the alpha. Yeah! And I try to lasso it.
00:37:43Oh, give me an attack roll. Oh, great. Okay.
00:37:47Ooh, that is a 21.
00:37:4921! You got one right around the head of the alpha.
00:37:53Yeah!
00:37:53Ooh! This, like, enormous, like...
00:37:55Easy, girl.
00:37:56They nestled up against you.
00:38:03As you bring the guinea fowl in, it sort of puts its arm next to you.
00:38:07Looking up at the mech, we see this gorgeous, like, sort of, like, combat suit apparatus thing.
00:38:15Nevertheless, probably is, you know, out here, like, with a little pot or a thing, like, growing a plant next to it.
00:38:22It's just been sitting here for so long,
00:38:24kind of tarped by the side,
00:38:26and your sort of paraphernalia around it.
00:38:30I think we also maybe see some like dime novels around.
00:38:32What do you think is the,
00:38:34what's the first dime novel we see?
00:38:36Like is there a title on it outside that first one?
00:38:40Well, obviously it's a Montgomery La Montgomery,
00:38:43and it is a strange foe at Oh No Plateau.
00:38:49Lou, what's the cover illustration
00:38:51of a strange foe at Oh No Plateau?
00:38:53It's four figures,
00:38:55Monty, Captain Junker, Pappy, and Van,
00:39:00all with this kind of big eight foot tall shadowy figure
00:39:05that's kind of reaching between two,
00:39:08kind of like a mix between a palm and a fern tree,
00:39:11kind of on a small like inlet surrounded by water.
00:39:17Everyone go ahead, Zach, you were giving me the face?
00:39:19Everyone give me the face on the cover?
00:39:23So damn good.
00:39:24So damn good.
00:39:24So damn good.
00:39:26You see, you get this guinea fowl in,
00:39:28looking up at this gorgeous mech suit,
00:39:31and you see it has that mark on it,
00:39:34the mark of McCloud,
00:39:35one of your grandmother's hand-built inventions.
00:39:39Father says, thanks for all the laughter.
00:39:42I hate to yell you about messing with that thing.
00:39:45I just...
00:39:46Dad, I just hang out up there.
00:39:48I have like a bunch of, you know, I do homework up there.
00:39:51Uh, I, it's just a cool place to hang out.
00:39:55There's, you know, there's just, I know you're not a kid anymore.
00:40:00I just want you to be happy.
00:40:03You know, there's a lot of adventure living a free life out here in the desert.
00:40:10You know, waking up and not having anyone tell you what to do.
00:40:15You know, you don't go near other people.
00:40:17You know, I get to do whatever I want, as long as I don't go anywhere.
00:40:22That, oh, yeah, I, see, I know that's important to you.
00:40:28I just think I might one day want to go somewhere.
00:40:35Breaking my heart.
00:40:40Your mother, Artemisia, comes out.
00:40:42Alathra?
00:40:43What?
00:40:44You see Hush goes, oh, oh, oh.
00:40:45Dad, Dad, go.
00:40:46Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:40:47I might come back.
00:40:48Girl, she never did.
00:40:52Or not often.
00:40:54Not very often.
00:40:56Grandma?
00:40:57Yeah.
00:40:58It's not like you just see the Zephyr flying in on the evening night.
00:41:03The Zephyr begins to fly in.
00:41:05Oh, my God.
00:41:07Oh, my God.
00:41:08And it's her.
00:41:10I take the lasso off of the guinea fowl and I try to make it fly up to the Zephyr.
00:41:14Go!
00:41:15Go!
00:41:16We're going to roll.
00:41:17We're going to roll to see the guinea fowl, which is a flightless bird.
00:41:20Yeah.
00:41:21I know.
00:41:22No, it's funny.
00:41:22Okay, 14.
00:41:24Valiant effort.
00:41:25Begins to, like, scramble up a wall.
00:41:27Oh, no!
00:41:28Tries to get up there.
00:41:29Captain, I think that bird means to attack us.
00:41:31You see the captain looks down and says, Master Gottsch, I recommend that we actually don't park anywhere near the...
00:41:39We should probably head over to Gulch Canyon where there's a skyport and a refueling station.
00:41:43But we can get a car offloaded and escort you and your brother to the McLeod farm.
00:41:49Right.
00:41:51Wheel well should stay on the ship.
00:41:54Maxwell, I got sick again.
00:41:57Yes, you did, wheel well.
00:41:59So hot.
00:41:59God, he's so hot.
00:42:00You can just tell.
00:42:01A little bit of vomit on the ship.
00:42:03It's like a Kennedy who just barbed.
00:42:07Your job.
00:42:07He has these, like, gorgeous, like, pearly upper teeth, and then the bottom teeth are a little bit gnarly.
00:42:13I get sick a lot.
00:42:15I know, and that's why I think you should guard the ship.
00:42:19I'll guard the ship with my very life.
00:42:24And after.
00:42:26Oh, no.
00:42:27You ever realize that you're going to have to play a guy for 20 hours?
00:42:32You're in the adventuring party.
00:42:34And the only thing you knew about this dude was his name was wheel well.
00:42:40And he throws up, and he sounds like that.
00:42:43He sounds like that, and he thought he was going to the south.
00:42:45And some people think he's hot.
00:42:47Everyone thinks he's hot.
00:42:48Hey, I'm doing you a solid.
00:42:49I'm leaving him on the ship.
00:42:50I can bring him.
00:42:51Everyone's got to admit, wheel well is fucking sexy.
00:42:54It's so sexy.
00:42:55You should bring his hot brother, if that would be helpful or not.
00:42:59No, I think, I think it's not.
00:43:01Can I also look at the invisible ink?
00:43:05Yes.
00:43:06On that nat 20, you go out, and I think, like, honestly, you go into the captain's quarters,
00:43:13and in the back of a copy of A Strange Foe at Oh No Plateau is the decoder cipher for invisible ink.
00:43:22It got published by the Windrider Society.
00:43:24You hold it up to a flame and see that it's very easy lemon juice on the parchment.
00:43:30And you look through.
00:43:32It goes, prototype radio frequency.
00:43:37Ought pi omega.
00:43:39And you see those symbols in a row.
00:43:41And it just says that on the deed to the McLeod family farm.
00:43:46Wheel well turns to you at this moment and goes, I don't stand God, the sheep.
00:43:50And you see that Captain Miriam looks.
00:43:56He just goes in so hot.
00:43:57He goes in at a tent.
00:43:59He goes in.
00:44:00Solid.
00:44:00I said he was solid.
00:44:01He's solid.
00:44:01Wheel well's solid.
00:44:02That's the one thing we know about wheel well.
00:44:03He is solid.
00:44:04He's solid.
00:44:05He's so sick.
00:44:06So solid.
00:44:06So sick, so solid.
00:44:08I love it.
00:44:09He's a little playful when he's not feeling sick.
00:44:11Yeah, yeah.
00:44:12Absolutely gorgeous.
00:44:13Just get him some gramamine.
00:44:14Yeah.
00:44:16So as you head over to Gulch Canyon, which is the nearest town to the McLeod family farm.
00:44:23And it's still like a two-hour drive by motor carriage to the farm.
00:44:29It's like the McLeods are way the fuck out there.
00:44:32But the Zeppelin is over to Gulch Canyon.
00:44:35As you exit Gulch Canyon, this is a rowdy town for a rowdy fella.
00:44:40As you look around, give me a perception check with advantage.
00:44:47Oh, so good.
00:44:49I don't have great perception, though, so that's just a 19.
00:44:55Just a 19.
00:44:55As you ask the motor.
00:44:57Who are you?
00:44:57Well, I was all excited because I rolled a 19.
00:44:59Damn, Brian, you're killing it.
00:45:02I'm really going to leave.
00:45:04I'll keep saying the B word.
00:45:05I'm going to pull a wheel while and spit it out.
00:45:11A little milk you've been drinking.
00:45:14You're just going to spit it out.
00:45:15Captain Daughterdale, Lucent says, Corporal Plaximus and Corporal Diaz will be escorting you in the motor carriage.
00:45:22And you see that these two skysailers both salute, looking sharp.
00:45:27So there's like two brawny women who are wearing the sort of red and blue of the Gotch family.
00:45:32Get into this motor carriage and head out.
00:45:34On that 19th reception, as you're getting off the ramp, as they're like cranking the motor carriage to get started up.
00:45:38You smell sweat in mustaches.
00:45:45The smell of blood on canvas.
00:45:50Cheers and roars.
00:45:52People clapping, money trading hands.
00:45:55Strong men with broad shoulders.
00:46:00Their shirtless bodies, fists up.
00:46:04You can smell the smell of gentlemanly sport.
00:46:08And you can, you feel for a moment the like, the like stitching of your coat, almost like swell in this moment.
00:46:19I start to reach for the oil.
00:46:21Then I tuck it back.
00:46:23I keep my gloves on.
00:46:26Gulch Canyon seems like a fun town.
00:46:29Damn, gotcha.
00:46:31And you get in the carriage and head off.
00:46:33As the carriage approaches, Olethra, this is like, this is honestly like hours later, you see that your dad is in a full desert ghillie suit.
00:46:43A, a eight foot rifle mounted on the top of his house.
00:46:48He says,
00:46:49Artemisia, send up the flare when you see the headlights or I'll take out the driver.
00:46:55Keep the engine cranked.
00:46:57Don't shoot grandma.
00:46:59Okay, all right.
00:47:01You got to make sure it's not grandma.
00:47:05Okay.
00:47:06Okay.
00:47:06You, you didn't lead an advance party.
00:47:08I'm not talking to these people.
00:47:10Anyone coming out of the McLeod farm.
00:47:13Hell, this is Zephyr, though.
00:47:15All right.
00:47:15If it's comfort, tell her I'm not here.
00:47:17Tell her I got caught in the tar pit.
00:47:20Okay, I'll tell her you got caught in another tar pit.
00:47:22I get, I'm on the guinea fowl again.
00:47:24Girl, we're going.
00:47:30Motor carriage arrives.
00:47:32Murph, go ahead actually and describe your character as a 29-year-old as a laugh that sees you for the first time.
00:47:38Maxwell gets out of the car.
00:47:41He's wearing a full three-piece, like, burgundy suit.
00:47:46Still has the perfect center part and has the, like, swirling, or twirling, rather, like, old-timey mustache.
00:47:55Very broad-shouldered.
00:47:57Clearly some type of athlete under all of that suits.
00:48:02But gets out and is trying to keep his composure, but is looking in all directions for danger.
00:48:11As you get out, you see, again, this, like, ramshackle, corrugated tin roof rust.
00:48:17There's, like, a million projects out in the sort of, like, yard of the farm that are either art, weapons, or ruined structures.
00:48:27And, Alethra, you look and do not see Comfrey in the car.
00:48:32Do you, can I tell where they're from, or is there anything kind of identifiable about them?
00:48:37I think the uniforms, you, even at night, you recognize the Gotch family colors.
00:48:43Okay, okay.
00:48:43I run, I'm on the guinea fowl, and I race up, I think.
00:48:46Incredible.
00:48:47Guinea fowl, so, riding an enormous...
00:48:50Easy, girl.
00:48:52Riding an enormous guinea fowl, you see a young woman, Alethra McLeod, comes up.
00:48:57I do that thing.
00:48:59The way that I dismount from the guinea fowl is I let it keep running full speed, and I jump off, and I land.
00:49:04Like a moving landing.
00:49:08You land.
00:49:09Guinea fowl tears off out of the canyon towards the horizon.
00:49:12Easy, girls.
00:49:14Is that your mount?
00:49:16That's my...
00:49:17It's gone.
00:49:17Yes.
00:49:18Oh, she'll come back.
00:49:20I am Maxwell Gotch.
00:49:24Are you from the McLeod family?
00:49:28Alethra McLeod, great to meet you.
00:49:29You must be Comfrey's granddaughter.
00:49:32Yes, that's me.
00:49:33Is Comfrey with you?
00:49:35No.
00:49:36Take the shot!
00:49:37Bow, bow, bow!
00:49:40I'm like, we're creating a barricade.
00:49:42No, look.
00:49:44She's not here, but it's okay.
00:49:47It's okay.
00:49:48You see, popping out of a sort of rainwater barrel, completely drenched, but covered in sort of like silicone-covered grenades, is Artemisia.
00:49:58She has a pen to a vest covered in grenades and says, it is illegal for you to look at me.
00:50:04I am a sovereign citizen.
00:50:06This is our property.
00:50:08You have committed an act of war.
00:50:10Article 5, Section 2.
00:50:12Of what?
00:50:13The thing we wrote ourselves.
00:50:14They're going to kill you.
00:50:15Okay, you have a second.
00:50:17What are you doing here?
00:50:18Yes, I actually, I just wanted to talk.
00:50:21I actually wanted to just sort of confirm your reality.
00:50:27Quick.
00:50:28I have the deed to your place, so just wanted to sort of, are you from a bank?
00:50:35No, I dislike the bank.
00:50:39The bank's always trying to come to me and take my money.
00:50:45Keep up.
00:50:46My, the bank comes to me and they try to get me, but they can't because I live in a free country.
00:51:00You're doing so good.
00:51:03And if they want to take my money, they can take these fists.
00:51:08And then I reveal the bruised fists.
00:51:12Give me persuasion with advantage.
00:51:14Oh my God.
00:51:16Oh, nat 20!
00:51:20Yes!
00:51:21Yes!
00:51:22Who is he?
00:51:23Who is he?
00:51:24Yes!
00:51:25You see that, you see that Hutch stands up in the ghillie suit, perfectly conceited, and says,
00:51:30You got scabs on your knuckles, kid.
00:51:33You got hair on your chest.
00:51:35I like that.
00:51:37All right, Misha, put on some coffee.
00:51:40Put some drugs in it.
00:51:42Out here, we're in charge of what goes in our bodies.
00:51:48My daughter's in charge of her gender.
00:51:52We're in charge of making bombs.
00:51:54And I kill everyone from any bank.
00:51:58We believe in freedom.
00:51:59All right?
00:52:00We are pill-beying through and through.
00:52:03I agree with a lot about that.
00:52:03You want to tell my daughter her business?
00:52:05You want to tell me not to train the guinea fowl to find drugs?
00:52:09I don't think so.
00:52:12Oh, they're so proud right now.
00:52:13She's actually not even embarrassed.
00:52:15She's just like, this is a great first impression.
00:52:17He's killing it.
00:52:18Oh, he comes over and says,
00:52:20Sorry for putting some punch holes in your motorcade, sir, kid.
00:52:24Quite all right.
00:52:25It's quite all right.
00:52:26Come on inside.
00:52:27And the whole group goes, you go into the McLeod family kitchen.
00:52:33See that Corporal Diaz has like a pistol drawn.
00:52:37He's like, you're good.
00:52:38This is good.
00:52:39We like this.
00:52:39Things are going.
00:52:41Can I see that deed?
00:52:44Yes, of course.
00:52:45Yes.
00:52:46Hand the deed over.
00:52:49I'm just looking at it for info to see.
00:52:53Because I could kind of tell he was lying, I think.
00:52:55Give me, I think, like, investigation.
00:52:57To, like, read this sort of financial document and sort of know what's up.
00:53:0219.
00:53:03Okay.
00:53:03Yeah.
00:53:04It looks like somehow that the farm was put up as collateral on a loan for an expedition.
00:53:09And so your father was going to inherit the farm.
00:53:14But it's technically your grandmother's farm, you know, like.
00:53:17Okay.
00:53:18I don't totally know that.
00:53:19Okay.
00:53:19I just go like.
00:53:22Well, what brings it all the way to the Galscanium, Mr. Gotts?
00:53:27Well, the way I came about this deed, I'm interested in getting some information about the whereabouts of your mother.
00:53:44Well, it doesn't come around all that much.
00:53:49Not too much adventure here in the Cloud Farm.
00:53:53We actually have to do work here.
00:53:54We have to tend to the guinea fowl and put out seed and grow food and make drugs.
00:53:59She hasn't been here in eight years.
00:54:02I saw her about eight years ago.
00:54:04I also haven't seen her.
00:54:05Is she okay?
00:54:07We think that is a possibility that she's all right.
00:54:12Give me an insight check.
00:54:1819.
00:54:18You see that Corporal Diaz just sort of goes.
00:54:24Stop.
00:54:25What?
00:54:26I'm getting so much info, but I just don't know what to do with it.
00:54:30The reason.
00:54:33So technically, this land was.
00:54:37And of course, we don't acknowledge this because this was all written up by the banks and whatnot.
00:54:41By writing a document about land in our nation, you actually have already committed to crime.
00:54:47And I will be taking you to court, of which I am the judge.
00:54:52I expect that.
00:54:55But the reason I'm coming to you is because this was sort of put up as collateral for my family to fund a expedition for Comfrey MacLeod.
00:55:10And my father, in all his wisdom, has of course seen that this is a wise investment.
00:55:17To finish the expedition.
00:55:19And I was just wondering if you had any information on the whereabouts of your mother.
00:55:27So you are from the bank?
00:55:30No.
00:55:30All right, look, I don't.
00:55:36Any information I had about my ma, she's out there somewhere.
00:55:41You want to find her?
00:55:43Look past the horizon's edge.
00:55:45Wherever you are, she's not.
00:55:46All right?
00:55:47Cloud would hold, as she would say.
00:55:51So.
00:55:51Do the words prototype radio frequency, ought, pi, omega, mean anything to you?
00:55:57Olethra, that means everything to you.
00:56:00Prototype is one of the names that she used for the combat suit.
00:56:03And ought, pi, omega, there are a series of dials inside of the suit that are, there's three of them in a row, like at a slot machine.
00:56:13And they are covered in symbols.
00:56:15But there are like 20 symbols on each one.
00:56:17So you've fucked around with them for a while.
00:56:19But you've never heard a sequence before.
00:56:22Okay, Olethra is freaking out, but she's not going to show it.
00:56:25We haven't really smoked any drugs yet.
00:56:27We have guests in this house.
00:56:29We should make dinner and we should smoke a bunch of drugs.
00:56:32Artemisia says, I am so sorry.
00:56:34Yeah.
00:56:34What sort of drugs do you love to smoke?
00:56:39We've got uppers, downers, and sideways.
00:56:42I guess, I guess coffee would be like an upper, uppers, uppers.
00:56:47You see, Palaximus goes, I'm interested in sideways.
00:56:52You see, Diaz goes, can I get a sideways and a down?
00:56:57You see, Artemisia takes them off to the kitchen.
00:56:59So your two servants go off with them.
00:57:01And you see that your dad looks out and says,
00:57:03no matter if I review that document for a second, I'm going to take it into my office.
00:57:07You see, he takes the deed to go look at it and leaving just you two here in the kitchen.
00:57:10Okay.
00:57:12That, my grandma gave me a massive mech suit.
00:57:18It's kind of in disrepair right now.
00:57:21It's been sitting there for a very long time.
00:57:23I was probably too young to receive something that lethal.
00:57:27But anyway, there's a dial on it.
00:57:29And I think what you just said might be the code.
00:57:31Art, pi, omega.
00:57:33Yeah, there are a bunch of symbols.
00:57:35I think we could look it up.
00:57:36All right.
00:57:37Yeah, it's outside.
00:57:38Let's do it.
00:57:39Yes, it's in the Guinea Fowl's Nest.
00:57:41Let's go.
00:57:42Okay, yes, as long as they're gone.
00:57:44I don't, yes.
00:57:44You approach a massive mech, something crafted by Comfrey at the height of the Age of the Windriders.
00:57:55And this gorgeous machine is standing there in the dark amongst the Guinea Fowl and Detritus.
00:58:01In the left room, you walk up and you see next to a small speaker, there are these three dial wheels with different symbols on them.
00:58:10We kind of use our own language here that my mom and dad made.
00:58:14So I don't really know what any of these are.
00:58:17So do you just want to maybe plug it in and see if it means anything?
00:58:21Okay.
00:58:21Art.
00:58:22I can move these.
00:58:23I move a bunch of books, a bunch of the, like, Montgomery, La Montgomery books.
00:58:28You're a fan of Montgomery, La Montgomery?
00:58:31Yeah, I mean, you know, they're pretty, like, entry-level adventuring books.
00:58:37But yeah, I've read all of them a bunch of times.
00:58:40Yes.
00:58:40They sort of fall off towards the end, but the first few are pretty expensive.
00:58:43Oh, yeah, totally.
00:58:46Totally, yeah.
00:58:47Feel the more distance from the source material.
00:58:50Yeah, totally, totally.
00:58:52Yeah.
00:58:52But the first few are fun.
00:58:54They're so fun.
00:58:55They're a fun read.
00:58:56Yeah.
00:58:56Good beach read.
00:58:59This is a non-canon scene.
00:59:02This is just a fun scene, right?
00:59:03This is a canon.
00:59:06Flipping switch.
00:59:08Beach read?
00:59:09Fuck you, mate.
00:59:13Beach read.
00:59:13I mean, showdown at Sassafrax Falls was actually really good.
00:59:17I mean, I think we can both agree.
00:59:18Yeah, it was pretty amazing.
00:59:20All right, yes.
00:59:21I'll have to take your word for it.
00:59:22Yeah.
00:59:23You flip this with Sean.
00:59:25I don't care what's down below.
00:59:29Radio comes on.
00:59:30Let it ring.
00:59:32Let it.
00:59:32I'll be dropping a rainbow.
00:59:34Sweeping the clouds away.
00:59:38Click.
00:59:39Opt.
00:59:40Pied.
00:59:41Coming to you from Ghost Canyon.
00:59:44This is a real good.
00:59:45Omega.
00:59:46No static.
00:59:53I tried to put a new antenna on there for so many times.
00:59:57I could never get a signal.
00:59:59But.
01:00:00This is Comfrey McLeod.
01:00:03This is Comfrey McLeod.
01:00:04You hear your grandmother's voice.
01:00:06Broadcasting from the 7th sub-Vim parallel.
01:00:11Losing oxygen rapidly.
01:00:13Gaining methane and our acryl at an unsustainable rate.
01:00:16This broadcast is intended for anyone who can come to our aid.
01:00:20Expedition disembarked from Ramansu.
01:00:22Stationed on the 44th of Taal.
01:00:25With assistance from the House of Huya.
01:00:28Dates in a calendar you've never heard of.
01:00:31And locations you've never heard of.
01:00:34We were discovered by the islands.
01:00:36Agents of the eyeless hand.
01:00:38If you can hear this.
01:00:39Malethra.
01:00:40It's real.
01:00:42The suit is real.
01:00:43It's glorious.
01:00:44Dangerous.
01:00:46If we're not careful.
01:00:47We're going to receive it.
01:00:49Don't come.
01:00:50It is too dangerous.
01:00:53Without help.
01:00:54It's a seasoned adventurer.
01:00:57I wouldn't even trust.
01:00:58Dangerous.
01:00:59The entrance will be a fulgent bayang.
01:01:03All the coordinates I ended up piecing together are in the captain's wall.
01:01:07Separately.
01:01:07Part 1.
01:01:09If you can decipher them what you need.
01:01:11Navigate.
01:01:12Crack mechanic.
01:01:14If you're hearing this.
01:01:16Van.
01:01:17Monty.
01:01:19Junker.
01:01:20Daisuke.
01:01:22I'm sorry.
01:01:24I never should have attempted it without you.
01:01:29Transmission.
01:01:30Ends.
01:01:31Fuck off, Hatwell.
01:01:33All right.
01:01:34He's wrong.
01:01:35He was wrong.
01:01:35I was right.
01:01:36Can we record that?
01:01:37Can we play it again?
01:01:38I took a few notes on the back of this incredible book.
01:01:43Can we replay that?
01:01:45And play the thing again?
01:01:46Did you recognize any of those words?
01:01:49Zood?
01:01:49Yes.
01:01:50Zood.
01:01:50Zood, of course.
01:01:51Zood.
01:01:51Um, wow.
01:01:53And she, and the shout out for me.
01:01:56I mean, maybe other people heard that too.
01:01:59I heard it.
01:02:00I heard it.
01:02:01Yes.
01:02:01As the transmission ends, Maxwell, Gotch, Olethra McLeod, you look at each other standing
01:02:06in front of the prototype, this massive suit with a radio that's receiving a signal from
01:02:14the lost and fabled continent of Zood, the mystical 28th continent of the world of Gath.
01:02:23We, we need to find your grandmother.
01:02:26I think so.
01:02:27Yes.
01:02:27I can save my stupid fucking family who's wrong.
01:02:30Yeah.
01:02:31I, I agree with all of that, honestly.
01:02:33Yes.
01:02:34I, I completely agree with that.
01:02:35Uh, um.
01:02:37There's something in the, I, um, I have the Zephyr.
01:02:40Yes.
01:02:41Oh, yes, that was you.
01:02:42There's something in the, uh, captain's, uh, quarters.
01:02:44Okay.
01:02:46Okay.
01:02:46Okay.
01:02:47So, I have a navigator, we have a, a captain, I assume that's the navigator, and, uh.
01:02:52All right, you two can't get down from there, the drugs are ready.
01:02:55Okay, okay, dad, be right there, of course.
01:02:59Yes, uh, is this, can, uh.
01:03:01I'm gonna have to do a lot of drugs.
01:03:04Not how to, but, you know.
01:03:04All right, yes, well, I'm probably going to head to the Zephyr to, um, uh.
01:03:09Please don't leave without me.
01:03:11I, I really want to do this with you.
01:03:13Do you, um, have any experience with airship travel?
01:03:17What?
01:03:18Yes.
01:03:18What?
01:03:19What specifically?
01:03:19I, uh.
01:03:20What specifically?
01:03:21Oh, my God, stop.
01:03:22Stop what?
01:03:23Oh, my God, stop.
01:03:23Ask the question, just what do you.
01:03:26Lasso.
01:03:28I don't have enough airship experience to know whether or not lasso's a job, so you're hired.
01:03:33Yes!
01:03:34What?
01:03:35All right, um, does this, does the suit move, or?
01:03:39I mean, uh, I, I hop in to, to see if anything has changed now that we've put in these, uh, the, like, symbols that he brought.
01:03:47Yeah.
01:03:47You go to boot up the motor, it looks like it's all functional, it's just that you're out of fuel.
01:03:52But if you could, if you could, if you could get this into town and just refuel the mech suit, I think that it has enough juice in it to run the radio, but if you want this bad boy, like, off and popping, it's time to take it to town and get it refueled.
01:04:03All right, um, can we get this maybe on the car?
01:04:08Yeah, um, I'm gonna go talk to my dad.
01:04:13And figure that out.
01:04:15Uh, you get it on the car.
01:04:16I'm going to get in the car.
01:04:17Great.
01:04:18And if you show up, we'll go together.
01:04:22Great.
01:04:22And if you don't, and so on.
01:04:25Totally.
01:04:26And I'll definitely be there, I'll definitely be there.
01:04:27Great.
01:04:28So you and your crew, you guys can kind of get this onto the car, you think?
01:04:31I don't particularly, I don't know the bodyguards that well that came with me, so if they stay here, that's fine.
01:04:38You see Diaz comes out and says, your family's really friendly.
01:04:41Yeah.
01:04:42You see that, uh, Polaximus goes, help.
01:04:49Oh, yeah.
01:04:50Have some orange juice.
01:04:52Here, here, yeah.
01:04:53Orange juice and get in the car.
01:04:55Yeah.
01:04:57Yeah, totally.
01:04:58Totally.
01:04:58And make sure you journal about this.
01:05:00It's going to be really important.
01:05:03Yeah.
01:05:04Oh, my God.
01:05:05My hands.
01:05:05I can write.
01:05:07Yeah.
01:05:07Yeah.
01:05:08Great.
01:05:08Okay.
01:05:08Okay.
01:05:09You guys get it onto the car.
01:05:11This is fun hanging out with you.
01:05:12And you wait for me.
01:05:13And you wait for me.
01:05:14Great.
01:05:15Yeah, Diaz looks at the mech and goes, like, this is, this is a, this is like a 12-foot-tall combat mech.
01:05:21And you see, Polaximus goes, this is actually not even real, and just lifts it up over her head.
01:05:28And Diaz goes, whoa, and tries to help stabilize it.
01:05:33Good coffee.
01:05:34Yeah.
01:05:35Yep.
01:05:35And they begin to strap it to the back of the car.
01:05:39I'm going to go talk to my parents.
01:05:42I'm very nimble.
01:05:43Is there a way for me to roll underneath the car as I'm going in to talk to my parents and pull a very important spark plug out of it so that it can't leave without me?
01:05:54Yes, you absolutely can do that.
01:05:55That's what I do.
01:05:56Go ahead and give me a Tinker's Tool check.
01:05:58Okay, great.
01:05:58Which I think is just going to be your intelligence plus your proficiency bonus.
01:06:02Okay, great.
01:06:05Hey, that is a 18.
01:06:08You pull a little spark plug out, stand up, walk into the house.
01:06:14You see your dad comes out and says, hey, I got the art surprise.
01:06:18I thought we'd do a bunch of exquisite corpses and get naked.
01:06:21God, that's so fun.
01:06:23Okay, Dad.
01:06:25Um, I'm leaving.
01:06:30I think we both knew this day would come.
01:06:32And I know you like things right down the middle.
01:06:38And my bag has been packed for over eight years now.
01:06:42So I'm just going to go grab that.
01:06:43The only thing I believe in more than the fact that you should stay on the farm is your absolute right to do anything you fucking want.
01:07:01Stop.
01:07:02And this is really straining my ideology.
01:07:06Stop.
01:07:06I really want to inhibit you from doing this, but that goes against everything we taught you.
01:07:13I just want to be free.
01:07:17I slowly salute him.
01:07:21And I sing the national anthem that we co-wrote ourselves.
01:07:24As you do, you see your mom and dad give you huge hugs.
01:07:29He's just crying so hard.
01:07:31Out there in the big world, there's a bunch of a-holes.
01:07:35They're going to try to make you do stuff that you don't want to do.
01:07:39They're going to tell you who to be, how to dress.
01:07:43They're going to try to take you, put you into their machine.
01:07:47Remember this.
01:07:49The only cog worth of damn is the one that doesn't fit anywhere.
01:07:52Like grandma.
01:07:55Yeah.
01:07:56God, that makes you so much sing.
01:08:00He looks at you and looks up at this poem up on the wall that has sort of drape over it.
01:08:05He pulls it off and you look up and see something that he hasn't looked at in many years.
01:08:10He puts his hand on your back.
01:08:12Your mom looks out at it.
01:08:15On high we go to break the binding bond, spur outward past beyond.
01:08:21Set blaze to bravery's light, bring hope to starry night.
01:08:25Set wrongs to right and freedom's fight to ever chase the day in winged flight.
01:08:31On high we go, outward hope.
01:08:35Big hug.
01:08:37All right.
01:08:39I'm going to go to the roof.
01:08:41And if I get up there and I still see that banker, even though I like him so much, I'm going to kill him dead.
01:08:46Yeah, totally.
01:08:49I love you guys.
01:08:51Love you.
01:08:52I'll send a postcard and if you don't kill the mail person, you'll get it.
01:08:56I know they trespass every day.
01:08:58I know.
01:08:59It's just a crime.
01:09:00I know.
01:09:03Maybe let a few of them in here and there.
01:09:05You might get a little line from me.
01:09:07I hire that Skyrider to write no solicitors in the sky every day.
01:09:11People still come.
01:09:13Okay, I run out.
01:09:15You run out, join the car, and you see...
01:09:18I installed the spark plug really quick.
01:09:19You see that Plaxmas goes, oh, it's working again.
01:09:22Oh, great.
01:09:22That's awesome.
01:09:23Thanks for waiting.
01:09:25It was always our intention.
01:09:26I throw a bag of what is essentially like my middle school style of clothing in the bag because I packed it so long ago.
01:09:35Cool.
01:09:35I bet that'll be fine.
01:09:37As you drive through the ravine, you see up on a fairy chimney, no idea how it got there, an enormous guinea fowl that looks to the moon, looks at you, breathes fire.
01:09:48And you hear from the rooftop, you're under no obligation to do so, but I hope to take care of my kid.
01:09:58Um, thank you.
01:10:00Go to hell, you beggar.
01:10:02Go, go, go, go, go.
01:10:05I'm firing back.
01:10:07You win your dad.
01:10:08I love you.
01:10:10And you guys take off.
01:10:13You arrive back at the air dock in Gulch Canyon.
01:10:16As you do, Maxwell, you smell that, that smell again, but you see the ship, it's refueling, and you see that there's sort of a dockyard worker who comes up and says,
01:10:28Hi there, you're Mr. Gotch?
01:10:30Uh, yes.
01:10:31All right, we almost got her refueled up here.
01:10:33You got trituminous coal going into the back, should be ready.
01:10:38Are you going to need some arctica iodide for those balloons?
01:10:42Yes.
01:10:42All right, we'll get a couple drams up there.
01:10:44As he does so, you see that Corporal Diaz looks at you and goes, do you need some for your-
01:10:48Yes, yeah, please, can we add that?
01:10:50Looking at the thing, what the hell is this?
01:10:53Gotch, you want me to refuel this too?
01:10:55Uh, yes, um, just put it on my tab.
01:10:58Well, maybe you should come to the office and we'll talk about your tab for a second.
01:11:02Of course, yes, um, sign the paperwork and whatnot.
01:11:05You see that, uh, the captain, Miriam, goes over with you as well to sort of review and make sure that you can pay for everything.
01:11:11As you do so, out near the Zephyr, Olethra, you're looking out at the Zephyr, seeing this gorgeous ship near the motor carriage as well.
01:11:19You see that Diaz and, uh, Plaxmas both look at you and go, uh, nice mech you got here.
01:11:25We'll start taking it off the car for you.
01:11:26Thanks, um, is it, um, is, is it cool if I go on board of the ship really quick?
01:11:35Yeah, yeah, yeah, go for it, go for it.
01:11:37The ship is a ways away towards the refueling and you start to sort of walk across this massive plateau skyport.
01:11:42Um, as you are walking distance to the Zephyr, uh, you hear a, uh, motor carriage sort of pulling up onto the skyport lot
01:11:54and moving past sort of the office area.
01:11:57As it moves up, you see that it pulls out sort of in front of you, in between you and the Zephyr.
01:12:03Okay.
01:12:04I've looked to see who it is.
01:12:07Door opens up.
01:12:08Looks like a couple sort of Pilbian roughnecks.
01:12:12One of them's got like a little bowler hat.
01:12:14Sort of step out of the car.
01:12:18Oh.
01:12:19Sorry, I seem to be a little turned around.
01:12:21This, uh, this is the Gulch Canyon skyport?
01:12:25Yeah, I think, I think so.
01:12:27Uh, you not from around here?
01:12:30No, no, we're from around here.
01:12:32Cool.
01:12:33You that young, uh, kid off the McLeod farm?
01:12:36Yeah, my dad's a fucking psycho.
01:12:37What are you gonna do to, what are you gonna do about it?
01:12:43Well, we're looking for your grandma.
01:12:47Think she might be interested.
01:12:49What's going on with you, kid?
01:12:51Why don't you come with us?
01:12:56Okay, yeah.
01:12:58I try to slip through their grasp.
01:12:59Roll initiative.
01:13:00Oh, God, fucking damn it.
01:13:02Oh, God.
01:13:03But my dad isn't just scary to everyone?
01:13:07Okay, not good.
01:13:08It's an eight.
01:13:09These guys got a 12, and I'll take an average roll.
01:13:14Okay.
01:13:14So they beat you.
01:13:15Okay.
01:13:15You see one of them raises a club over his head to knock you unconscious.
01:13:20Can I use a luck point?
01:13:21To re-roll?
01:13:22Yeah.
01:13:23I'll say, they beat you, but they actually don't go first.
01:13:25Oh.
01:13:26Zach goes first.
01:13:27Ooh.
01:13:28I guess walking up about 60 feet away, see an old man with a cowboy hat on, little sunglasses
01:13:39on his nose, sort of like a Japanese-style overcoat, and dusty pants and cowboy boots,
01:13:47walking from far away.
01:13:48And chic.
01:13:49Uh, and I just try to interrupt and just yell, um, excuse me, fellas, uh, looking for a place
01:14:00for an old man to just sort of dribble out a little piss if there's a spot around here.
01:14:08Why don't you piss up your ass, you old dog?
01:14:12Get lost, pappy.
01:14:13You're toast.
01:14:14Uh, I'm gonna use, uh, I'm just gonna shoot them with my gun.
01:14:25Hell yeah, go for it, man.
01:14:27Pappy's home.
01:14:28Pappy's home.
01:14:29In signing paperwork right now.
01:14:31Yeah.
01:14:31And, uh, I used my, my, I should have called it earlier, my deadeye shot.
01:14:36Hell yeah.
01:14:37I used my grip points to get advantage on the rolls.
01:14:40Cool.
01:14:41And so both would hit, I imagine.
01:14:43I, I rolled a, uh, 19 plus nine, and then a 15 plus nine.
01:14:48So both above, so 24 is the lower of the two?
01:14:51Yeah, and it's pop, pop.
01:14:51Yeah, those are gonna hit these goons.
01:14:52Yeah, for sure, absolutely.
01:14:54Uh, I'll just action surge.
01:14:57Okay, there's three guys in front of you.
01:15:00You hit the first two.
01:15:01Do you want to roll damage as you go?
01:15:02Uh, sure, let's do it, yeah.
01:15:04Uh, the first.
01:15:06Uh, that's a eight and a one.
01:15:13Or is this not a 10?
01:15:14That's one.
01:15:15So nine plus, uh, eight.
01:15:1817.
01:15:1917.
01:15:19Oh, I did this wrong.
01:15:20Sorry.
01:15:21That was it.
01:15:22Uh, so that was 18?
01:15:2518 damage on the first attack?
01:15:27That was two shots.
01:15:2918 damage over two shots?
01:15:31Nine plus three.
01:15:31Yeah.
01:15:32Yes.
01:15:32Okay.
01:15:33Okay.
01:15:33First guy, gone.
01:15:35Just blown away, uh, and you action surge.
01:15:39Yeah, shoot the second guy.
01:15:40Go for it.
01:15:40And I'll menacingly look at the third guy.
01:15:43Wow.
01:15:43Cool.
01:15:44Go ahead and let's attack the second guy.
01:15:46All right.
01:15:46Uh, that's a 24 to hit.
01:15:50Yes.
01:15:51Um, and then.
01:15:52Yes.
01:15:55If I action surge, will I be able to attack twice again?
01:15:57Yes, you'll be able to attack twice again.
01:15:59Okay, and then this is just a regular nat 20.
01:16:03Okay.
01:16:04R.I.P.
01:16:04So first, first attack.
01:16:06Okay, so this will be the first attack, which is just regular.
01:16:10Uh, that's another one plus four.
01:16:12That's five damage.
01:16:12And the second one is, uh, 14 damage.
01:16:18And you're adding your dex modifier to all this, right?
01:16:19Yes.
01:16:20Cool.
01:16:21So of these three guys, two are blown away.
01:16:24But you see, like, as they turn around, before they can go to the guns on their hip,
01:16:29faster than a rattlesnake, this ancient man puts a pistol in his hand, and the pappy
01:16:37of Pilby unloads.
01:16:39Third guy, go ahead and give me an intimidation check with advantage.
01:16:41Would I know who this is?
01:16:42Potentially, yeah.
01:16:44That's a 20, a dirty 20.
01:16:46The third guy looks at you shaking.
01:16:51Is there a place for me to dribble out a little bit?
01:16:54On a 20, you see this guy starts crying and gets on his knees.
01:17:00Never mind.
01:17:02Piss on me.
01:17:04Piss on me.
01:17:05Was that what that was?
01:17:07I'm just trying to read it right.
01:17:09Get, gong it.
01:17:11He just runs away, gets into the car, doesn't know how to drive, jumps out of the car.
01:17:15Oh, Billy drives in the front of the car.
01:17:20Piss.
01:17:21And walking into the light, you see the pappy of Pilby.
01:17:27Zach, do you think you would be recognizable?
01:17:30You know, it's been eight years.
01:17:32More than that, probably.
01:17:33I think a pappy would come up, and I feel like you remember me to some degree,
01:17:38but, like, I think I still look pretty good for 80.
01:17:43Oh, my God.
01:17:45You're in the books, though, right?
01:17:46Yeah.
01:17:46Yeah, okay.
01:17:47Walking out of the shadows, you see Daisuke Bucklesby,
01:17:52the ex-husband of your grandma.
01:17:58Greetings and salutations, my friend.
01:18:00Oh, my God.
01:18:01It's really you.
01:18:02You even said your catchphrase.
01:18:04Dribble a little piss somewhere.
01:18:05I got a weak bladder.
01:18:09Yeah, totally.
01:18:10Yeah, canonically weak.
01:18:17Rushing up with gunshots, I imagine, Max.
01:18:19Yeah, like...
01:18:20Let's just say, you've got a wonderful shopper.
01:18:22Oh, oh!
01:18:23And, yeah, you rush out, and you see this man standing here in the skyport.
01:18:30This is Daisuke Bucklesby.
01:18:32Pappy.
01:18:33Oh, look down at the dead body.
01:18:37The two dead men.
01:18:39There was nothing to be done about it.
01:18:41I didn't distinguish.
01:18:42Rowdies, I suppose.
01:18:44Daisuke, go ahead, actually, and give me an insight or history, whichever one you want.
01:18:49I'll do an insight.
01:18:51That's a 21.
01:18:53These three guys are low-life contract killers.
01:18:58You know exactly who these guys are.
01:19:01You followed them here as...
