00:00A year ago, I decided to teach my dog how to skateboard.
00:04I knew this was going to be the most challenging trick I had ever taught him
00:08because my dog actually started out highly reactive to skateboards as a puppy.
00:13I started out by having him just put two paws on the board
00:16and moving it slightly as you can see from these early clips.
00:19And I used a treat to try to lure him forwards a little bit to get the board to move.
00:24We practiced this step a lot to build his confidence
00:27because he was very unsure of the board moving underneath him.
00:30Next, I practiced rewarding him for putting three paws on the board at once,
00:34while also still practicing moving the board confidently with two paws.
00:39We then progressed to moving the board with three paws on the board
00:43and kick pushing with one leg.
00:45This was a key step in learning to skateboard,
00:48was getting this kick push with the three paws on the board at one time.
00:52And a couple weeks later, he had it!
00:54He was skateboarding on his own on flat ground.
00:57And once we achieved this amazing goal that I wasn't sure was ever possible
01:01due to his former reactivity with skateboards,
01:03we set our sights even higher to ramps and downhill.
01:07Han blew my expectations out of the water by going down ramps in a local skate park.
01:12With practice and patience, anything is possible with your dog.
