Ofwat "failed everybody", says Environment Secretary

Environment Secretary Steve Reed says the water regulator Ofwat has “clearly failed everybody,” citing record pollution levels and rising bills. Reed said the government is committed to halving sewage discharges into England and Wales’ waterways by 2030. He called for “a revolution in our water sector” and said a report from Sir John Cunliffe will guide urgent regulatory reform. Report by Etemadil. 00:12clearly not right. Now I'm going to receive a report tomorrow morning from Sir John Cunliffe.

00:17He will make recommendations and I will respond to that, but I'm under no illusion. We need a

00:22revolution in our water sector to reform it from top to bottom. We've already put several of those

00:28building blocks in place. Sir John's report tomorrow will show us the direction we need to go in

00:33to fix that broken regulation.
