00:00Nyheim Hines is back and ready to write his comeback story.
00:04After two long seasons away from football, running back and return specialist Nyheim
00:09Hines is finally healthy, and he's more motivated than ever.
00:13Back in July 2023, Hines suffered a serious knee injury in a jet ski accident that kept
00:19him off the field for two full NFL seasons.
00:22What made it even tougher was that it happened just when things were starting to click for
00:26him.
00:26Now a free agent and fully recovered, Hines is ready to prove he still has plenty left
00:33in the tank.
00:34I'm far from done, Hines told the Charlotte Observer.
00:38The story is in my hand.
00:40As athletes, we can't control everything, but we can always control our performance.
00:45That's our pen.
00:47And now, I'm ready to write whatever story I want.
00:50Originally drafted in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts back in 2018, Hines made
00:56a name for himself as a dual-threat running back and dynamic return man.
01:01In 2022, he was traded to the Buffalo Bills, and it didn't take long for him to make an
01:07impact.
01:09In an emotional game following DeMar Hamlin's collapse, Hines returned two kickoffs for touchdowns,
01:14one of them coming on the game's very first play.
01:18It was one of those moments that fans and teammates will never forget.
01:21But just months later, everything changed.
01:25While on vacation, Hines was hit by another jet ski and tore his ACL, forcing him to miss
01:31the entire 2023 season.
01:34Then in 2024, while signed with the Cleveland Browns, lingering issues from the injury kept
01:39him off the field again.
01:41Even though he never played a snap for the Browns, his time there wasn't wasted.
01:45He connected with star running back Nick Chubb, who has battled through two serious knee injuries
01:51himself.
01:53The two rehabbed together, and Chubb became a huge source of inspiration and motivation.
01:58I'd say my biggest inspiration is Nick Chubb, Hines said.
02:03We did everything together.
02:05He came off a catastrophic injury and showed me it's possible to come back even stronger.
02:10I leaned on him a lot.
02:13And now, Hines says he's officially back to form.
02:16He's hitting impressive speeds in training, clocking up to 23 miles per hour, and more
02:22importantly, he's been released by the Browns in February.
02:26Hines has been searching for a new team.
02:28He's already had workouts with a few familiar faces, including the Colts, Browns, and Texans,
02:34but hasn't received an official offer yet.
02:37Still, with NFL training camps starting and the usual wave of preseason injuries expected
02:42to hit, the door could open any time.
02:46Hines' versatility could be a huge asset for a team in need of depth.
02:50Not only can he contribute as a running back and receiver out of the backfield, but his return
02:55game is elite.
02:57In today's NFL, being able to do multiple things is often the key to securing one of
03:02those precious 53-man roster spots.
03:04I don't need a lot of touches, Hines said.
03:08I'd love some, but just give me a chance.
03:12Put me in space and let me do what I do.
03:15Whether it's catching passes, running between the tackles, or returning kicks, I've done
03:19it all.
03:21With his knee finally healed and his mindset stronger than ever, Nyheim Hines is ready to
03:26pick up the pen and start writing the next chapter of his NFL journey.
03:30And for any team willing to bet on his talent and heart, they might just be getting one
03:35of the best comeback stories of the year.
03:37Let's go.
