00:00God Expelled Satan From Heaven Due To His Rebellion And Sin
00:03Jesus mentioned that he saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning,
00:07but why didn't God simply destroy him or banish him forever?
00:11Why does Satan still exist?
00:13In today's Bible study we will explore the truth behind why God does not destroy Satan or his fallen angels.
00:19Satan is a widely recognized figure in modern times,
00:22but many are unaware that his name means adversary or enemy.
00:27Additionally, it can be interpreted as fallen.
00:30Note that it does not refer to the one who fell, but rather, the one who is falling,
00:35indicating a continuous state.
00:37He is constantly becoming more evil and dark.
00:40The book of Revelation mentions that he was cast into an abyss without bottom,
00:44suggesting that he is in a constant fall.
00:47This is what pride does, if left unchallenged, it leads to continuous destruction.
00:53Proverbs 16, verse 18, it's that pride goes before destruction,
00:57and it is important to note that this destruction does not always mean death.
01:01In Psalm 3, 4, David speaks about how God redeems one's life from destruction.
01:07This indicates that destruction can be present while we are still alive,
01:11affecting our relationships, finances, and opportunities.
01:15The way to reverse this is through humility.
01:17Satan, also known as Lucifer, is the ancient tempter,
01:21who has deceived humanity into turning away from God for thousands of years.
01:26He started as an angel in heaven, created by God to glorify and worship him.
01:31However, Satan was not satisfied with his role of service and worship.
01:35He wanted to be worshipped and to serve as an equal or even superior to God.
01:39This ambition led him to organize a rebellion in heaven,
01:44gathering an army of angels to challenge God's power.
01:47These rebellious angels are known as fallen angels.
01:50The war in heaven was intense.
01:52On one side was the archangel Michael and his angelic army,
01:56and on the other, Satan, depicted as a dragon, leading thousands of demons.
02:01However, God's dominion is unshakable,
02:03and the battle ended with Satan and his followers being expelled from heaven.
02:07Revelation 12, 7-8 describes this battle,
02:12stating that Michael and his angels fought against the dragon,
02:15but the dragon and his angels were not strong enough and lost their place in heaven.
02:20While Satan and his angels lost their position in the heavenly realm,
02:24Christians, on the other hand, gained a place in heaven.
02:28Ephesians 2, 6 says that God raised us up with Christ
02:31and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
02:35But why didn't God simply destroy Satan and his angels?
02:39Why did he allow them to come to earth to cause destruction and death to humanity?
02:45This is the question we will address in today's video.
02:48The main reason is that God cannot kill Satan or his angels
02:52because they were created by him and in his likeness.
02:55God is spirit, as mentioned in John 4,
02:58and as spiritual beings, Satan and his angels also possess that immortal nature.
03:02The fact that Satan continues to exist indicates that God has a specific purpose for him.
03:08God has a plan for all his creatures,
03:10and even when they stray from the Creator's will,
03:13he is able to use their decisions and circumstances,
03:16no matter how dire, for his glory.
03:19Let's examine who Satan is and how God uses him today.
03:22In the book of Isaiah chapter 14,
03:25we see a description of Satan's fall from heaven.
03:28This text reveals his rebellion.
03:30How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
03:34You are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!
03:38For you have said in your heart,
03:40I will ascend into heaven.
03:41I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
03:45I will sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north.
03:48I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.
03:51I will be like the Most High.
03:53Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
03:55to the lowest depths of the pit.
03:58Another name frequently attributed to Satan is Lucifer,
04:01which means light-bearer.
04:03The text makes it clear that Lucifer's fall occurred because of his proud ambitions.
04:09This passage is a powerful statement of what happened to him.
04:13A second reference to Satan's fall is found in Ezekiel 28,
04:16where the Lord God says,
04:18You are the seal of perfection,
04:20full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
04:22You are in Eden, the garden of God.
04:24Every precious stone was your covering.
04:27The sardius, topaz and diamond,
04:30the beryl, onyx and jasper,
04:32the sapphire, emerald and carbuncle.
04:35The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
04:40You are the anointed cherub who covers.
04:42I established you.
04:44You are on the holy mountain of God.
04:45You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
04:49You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created till iniquity was found in you.
04:54By the abundance of your trading,
04:56you became filled with violence within,
04:58and you sinned.
05:00Therefore, I cast you profaned from the mountain of God
05:03and expelled you, O guardian cherub,
05:05from the midst of the fiery stones.
05:07Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty.
05:10You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor.
05:12I cast you to the ground.
05:14I exposed you before kings that they might gaze at you.
05:18Ezekiel described Satan as a being created in perfection, beauty, and wisdom.
05:24However, something changed.
05:26Injustice and sin arose within him, resulting in his expulsion from paradise.
05:31Thus, we see again that Satan fell due to the pride that welled up in his heart,
05:36something that God could not allow in heaven.
05:38The reality is that Satan, a high-ranking angel in heaven,
05:42fell so deeply that he became not only Satan the fallen one,
05:46but also the tempter.
05:48His arrogance led him to attempt to divert others from the right path,
05:52just as he himself strayed.
05:53In addition to being the tempter, Satan is also an accuser,
05:58as seen in the book of Zechariah chapter 3,
06:00where he stands at the right hand of Joshua,
06:03bringing accusations against him before God.
06:06In the New Testament, we see that Satan continues to torment humanity.
06:11Even Jesus Christ was tempted by him during the 40 days in the desert.
06:15During his ministry,
06:17Jesus makes a statement that confirms the Old Testament view of the origin of Satan.
06:21In Luke 10, verse 18, he states,
06:24I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
06:26This verse reflects Satan's fall after his rebellion.
06:30Additionally, in 2 Peter 2, 4, we read that,
06:33God did not spare the angels who sinned,
06:36but cast them into hell and delivered them into chains of darkness,
06:40to be reserved for judgment.
06:42Similarly, Jude 1, verse 6 speaks of the angels who did not keep their proper domain,
06:47but left their own abode.
06:48He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.
06:55Although Satan is allowed to exist for now,
06:58he will ultimately be held accountable for his sins.
07:01This perspective sheds light on why God did not destroy Satan and his fallen angels immediately.
07:06It would not be just to condemn a criminal before a fair trial.
07:10And God awaits the great judgment,
07:12where all will be judged and rewarded according to their works.
07:14To better understand this issue,
07:17it is essential to analyze who God really is.
07:21Some sacred attributes of God influence his actions.
07:25Furthermore, since God is unchanging,
07:27understanding his nature allows us to reliably comprehend why he acts as he does.
07:33God's actions always reflect his character.
07:35That is, what he does comes from who he is.
07:38The first thing to remember is that God is all-powerful.
07:42There is no challenge to his authority,
07:44as he holds all the power in the universe.
07:47If God created all beings and all things,
07:49as the Bible states,
07:50it is evident that nothing created can rise above its creator.
07:54A common misconception about Satan is to view him as God's supreme enemy,
07:59as if Satan and God are in a struggle for control of the universe.
08:03Many believe that God merely managed to expel Satan and his demons to defend heaven.
08:08But this view is mistaken.
08:10God has no rival.
08:11No one comes close to his power,
08:13not even Satan.
08:14From God's perspective,
08:16the battle in heaven was not a true struggle of forces.
08:19There was no possibility of Satan defeating the almighty creator of heaven and earth.
08:24The event is recorded in Revelation 12, 7-9.
08:28And there was war in heaven.
08:30Michael and his angels fought against the dragon.
08:33And the dragon and his angels fought back.
08:35But he was not strong enough,
08:37and they lost their place in heaven.
08:39The great dragon was hurled down.
08:42That ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan,
08:44who leads the whole world astray.
08:46He was hurled to the earth,
08:48and his angels with him.
08:51Right after this defeat,
08:53a loud voice in heaven proclaims,
08:55Now have come the salvation and the power
08:57and the kingdom of our God
08:58and the authority of his Messiah
09:00for the accuser of our brothers and sisters,
09:03who accuses them before our God day and night,
09:06has been hurled down.
09:07They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb
09:09and by the word of their testimony.
09:12They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
09:15There is something profoundly beautiful about the nature of God.
09:23Even amidst Satan's rebellion,
09:25we see the firmness of God's plan,
09:27where evil is defeated through the redemptive work of Christ
09:30and the perseverance of the saints.
09:33God's power is beyond comparison,
09:35and his justice will prevail in due time.
09:38The fact that God did not immediately kill Satan
09:42reflects an act of mercy
09:43that demonstrates God's deep love for his creatures,
09:46even when they fail to reciprocate that love.
09:49The second important aspect of God's nature to understand
09:53is that he is omniscient.
09:55God knows all the small and seemingly insignificant details
09:58of the universe,
09:59as well as the thoughts and motivations of each individual.
10:02He has a complete and unique perspective on any situation,
10:07meaning he fully understands the reasons behind every choice,
10:10including those of Satan.
10:12The Bible reveals little about what led Satan to rebel,
10:15mentioning only that pride and jealousy of God
10:18were determining factors.
10:20However, due to God's omniscience,
10:22he knew in detail what motivated Satan and his demons.
10:26This highlights another important aspect of God's nature,
10:29his compassion.
10:29Just as a loving father does not immediately punish a child,
10:34but offers him the chance to correct his wrongs,
10:37God also demonstrated compassion for Satan,
10:40fully understanding the reasons for his rebellion.
10:43One of the reasons God does not immediately destroy Satan
10:46and his followers is precisely this.
10:49He perfectly understands the motives behind their actions.
10:52While this may seem incomprehensible or insane to us,
10:56God, with his infinite wisdom,
10:57understands the depths of Satan's choices.
11:01This leads us to reflect on free will,
11:03a gift given by God to all his creation,
11:06including angels.
11:07Free will is essential for genuine love.
11:10True love cannot be forced.
11:11It must be a choice.
11:13God, who desires his creation to love him voluntarily,
11:17gives everyone the freedom to choose
11:18whether to follow him or not.
11:20This includes the angels,
11:22who upon receiving the gift of free will,
11:24also had the possibility of rebellion.
11:26This freedom was necessary
11:27for the love directed toward God to be authentic.
11:30However, free will presents a challenge.
11:33If God were to punish or eliminate immediately
11:35all who misuse this gift,
11:37contrary to his will,
11:39would there really be a choice?
11:41Would there be true freedom
11:43if one of the options came
11:44with the certain consequence of death?
11:47Free will requires that the possibility of rebellion
11:49and the opportunity for redemption coexist.
11:52For this reason, God, who is just and equitable,
11:57respects Satan's choice to rebel
11:58without forcing his immediate destruction.
12:01Although Satan fell and lost his position in heaven,
12:04God does not eliminate those
12:06who choose a path contrary to him.
12:08This does not mean that Satan or his followers
12:10are free from judgment.
12:12It simply means that until the appropriate moment,
12:15their existence and the chance for redemption
12:17or final condemnation are preserved.
12:20There is also a theory that suggests
12:22why God allowed Satan and his demons
12:25to continue living after their rebellion.
12:28If we examine the gospel accounts,
12:30we can understand that there is a divine purpose
12:33in allowing Satan to remain present in the world,
12:36as even his actions can be used
12:38to fulfill God's greater plan.
12:39In the New Testament,
12:42we see that Satan plays a crucial role
12:43in Jesus's journey to the cross.
12:46Even after rejecting God,
12:48Satan was still used to fulfill the divine purpose
12:50of saving the world from sin.
12:53The first appearance of Satan in the New Testament
12:55occurs during the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.
12:58Three times, Satan tempts Jesus
13:00with different propositions,
13:02and in all of them, Jesus resists,
13:05responding with scripture.
13:06This was a decisive moment in Jesus's life,
13:10proving that he was worthy to be the sacrifice
13:12for the sins of humanity.
13:14Why was this important?
13:16Because in order for someone to take the place of sinners,
13:19that person needed to be completely innocent.
13:22In the process of redemption,
13:24Jesus's innocence was transferred to guilty humanity
13:27while he took upon himself the sin of the world.
13:30This exchange was only possible
13:32because Jesus, by resisting temptation,
13:34demonstrated that he was pure
13:36and worthy of fulfilling this mission.
13:39The second significant role of Satan
13:41in the story of Jesus
13:42appears in the temptation of Judas Iscariot,
13:45the disciple who would betray Jesus
13:47and hand him over to be crucified.
13:50Have you ever wondered how the plan of salvation
13:52could be realized without Judas's betrayal?
13:55Here, Satan enters the story again,
13:57influencing Judas to betray Jesus.
14:00This led to Jesus's arrest and crucifixion,
14:02which was how he would fulfill his purpose
14:05of dying for the sins of the world.
14:08One could speculate that God allowed Satan
14:10to live precisely so that he would have a role
14:13in this narrative of redemption.
14:15Satan, an angel who rebelled against God
14:18and was cast out of heaven
14:19along with an army of fallen angels,
14:22could have been destroyed immediately.
14:24However, God did not do so.
14:27Perhaps it was because Satan had a greater purpose
14:29to fulfill in the divine plan of redemption.
14:32He might have been a tool used by God
14:34to prove the holiness of Jesus
14:35and subsequently to facilitate
14:37the necessary crucifixion for humanity's salvation.
14:41Some suggest that perhaps God's love for Satan
14:44was so great that he wanted to give him
14:46an opportunity to repent.
14:48Even though this theory is speculative,
14:50it reminds us of a fundamental aspect
14:51of divine nature, free will.
14:56God desires for his creation to love him voluntarily,
14:59and this love can only exist when there is a real choice.
15:02Therefore, God grants free will to all created beings,
15:06allowing both the possibility of following his will
15:08and the possibility of rejecting it.
15:11However, free will brings the potential for rebellion.
15:15If God were to immediately eliminate
15:17all those who do not choose him,
15:20there would not be a real choice.
15:22This is why he does not immediately destroy Satan
15:24and his followers.
15:25Instead, God respects free will,
15:28allowing even those who reject him
15:30to live until the final moment of judgment,
15:32where each will be judged according to their actions.
15:35In the life of Jesus,
15:37we see that Satan's role,
15:38although perverse,
15:40was fundamental in fulfilling the plan of salvation.
15:42Whether in the temptation in the desert
15:44or the betrayal by Judas,
15:46Satan, despite his rebellion,
15:48ended up serving a greater purpose
15:50within God's redemptive plan.
15:53God allows Satan and his demons
15:55to continue to exist because he is love,
15:57and love is incredibly patient.
16:00The question of why God
16:01does not definitively eliminate Satan
16:03is complex and involves
16:05multiple layers of understanding.
16:07This topic leads us to deeply reflect
16:09on the nature of God, free will,
16:11and the role of evil and choice in the world.
16:15First, it is important to recognize
16:17that God, being omniscient and omnipotent,
16:19has a perfect plan for everything that exists.
16:22If Satan is still present,
16:24it is because in some way
16:25he is part of this divine plan.
16:28Though it may be difficult to comprehend
16:30God's motives with our limited perception,
16:32we can trust that there is a greater
16:34and beneficial purpose behind every divine decision.
16:38Additionally, Satan's existence
16:39offers a constant test for humanity.
16:42Temptation is not merely a sign of weakness or evil,
16:45but also an opportunity for spiritual and moral growth.
16:49By facing and overcoming temptations,
16:52individuals can develop virtues
16:53such as strength, perseverance, and faith.
16:57These challenges are essential
16:58for spiritual maturation and character formation.
17:01Another important point
17:02is that the story of Satan's rebellion
17:04highlights the significance of free will.
17:07God created beings capable of choice
17:09because he values freedom and authenticity
17:12over forced obedience.
17:13True love and true goodness emerge
17:16when they are freely chosen,
17:18not when they are imposed.
17:21Prayer Almighty Lord,
17:22you are the creator of all that exists,
17:25the Alpha and the Omega,
17:26whose ways are perfect
17:27and whose plans are incomprehensible to us
17:30in their entirety.
17:31We trust in your wisdom and goodness,
17:33even as we face the shadows of evil in this world.
17:37Grant us the strength to resist the temptations
17:39that Satan places in our paths
17:41and the wisdom to understand
17:43that each challenge is an opportunity
17:45for growth in faith and character.
17:48Help us use our free will to choose good
17:50and to follow you more closely each day.
17:53Teach us to see every difficult situation
17:56as a chance to demonstrate
17:57our love and faithfulness to you.
18:00May we always remember
18:00that you are in control
18:02and that everything contributes
18:04to your divine plan,
18:05including the challenges we face.
18:07We thank you for your infinite patience
18:10and boundless mercy.
18:12May we continue to seek your face
18:13and your truth,
18:15living each day more aligned
18:16with your sacred purposes.
18:18In the name of Jesus, Amen.
