Panaji: Goa launched its first private solar-electric cruise boat service on Thursday, making a significant step toward promoting clean and sustainable energy in the maritime sector. The service was inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at the Panjim Floating Jetty in Panaji. The vessel has been jointly developed by Goa Solar Power House and LRAJ Green Solutions Pvt. Ltd. It is designed to offer an eco-friendly and efficient mode of transport for both locals and tourists using Goa's inland waterways.Speaking at the launch, CM Sawant praised the private initiative and assured government support. "Such solar ferry boats are very important for Goa. They can be used for tourism and also as water taxis. We will provide all necessary permissions," he said. The boat is equipped with air-conditioned seating, CCTV surveillance, washrooms, and other comfort features. According to the company officials, the vessel can operate for up to nine hours on fully charged batteries, aided by solar power. (with PTI inputs)

01:06the permissions required from the COP tourism, definitely we can give them the permissions
01:11to use this in future as a water taxi also. The boat is equipped with air conditioned seating,
01:19CCTV surveillance, washrooms and improved passenger comfort. According to company officials, it
01:25can run for up to 9 hours on fully charged batteries.
01:31The boat is ready. It is running on fully electric. So for propulsion, we have electric as well
01:37as a motor, electric battery and a motor. We have an auxiliary battery which is powering
01:42up the lighting, the ACs, then we have the toilet lighting, then these lightings, LED lightings,
01:48CCTV and all the normal running purpose. With these trials, what we have seen is we are getting
01:57around 7 hours of operation. So, at a full charge, we get around 7 hours. So, we are expecting
02:04another 2 hours extra with solar charging. So, if we have sunlight, definitely we are looking
02:09at around 9 hours of operation.
02:11The service offers locals and tourists a faster, more efficient mode of travel while significantly
02:18reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy in the marine sector.
